  1. It's always going to be hard to make a comparison. The ps5 is all proprietary and each component reaserched to get the optimal performance when working together. The bios and os are programed to work with one particular group of components, not countless combinations In short, it has one job to do. Rather than try to work out which parts are the closest match it would be better to work out which pc components give a similar performance. There are going to be lots of combinations you can use.
  2. Exactly, you can have the best money can buy and someone will still beat you using a potato. Intel don't give LTT the best cpu to review because they think it will sell that cpu to the viewers. They just want you to buy Intel full stop. But there are a lot of viewers who see this and think they must have it. These are not true consumer reviews, they are showcasing the best. There lower end chip market is far more valuable. If you asked me if I'd like the profits from the 10900k or the 10100 s I'd go with the i3 any day. I have done a lot of kids football coaching and the pressure on parents to buy the best most expensive boots is unreal. Having the same boots a Lionel Messi won't improve your game.
  3. Maybe a different approach to online gaming is needed. With consoles you're competing on a level playing field. Pc is encouraging pay to win mentality. Its making people believe they must have the best equipment. Gaming before this was all about being with mates and taking turns on the same computer, or even sharing the same keyboard in a 2 player game. Now it's about spending as much as you can to beat someone you don't know and never will.
  4. No, by bringing up the cinema you were asking if gaming was better value. A completely different argument. Your 12 cent per hour could be much higher or lower depending on your system specs. The original question was does spending more on your system improve the quality of your experience. Do you really need to spend $2000+ to get a good gaming experience? Does turning your settings from high to medium spoil your enjoyment? What I was doing with your movie reference was trying to bring it as close to the gaming scenario. Which means watching the movie at home. Then it come down to how you watch it. Do you need a high end home cinema to enjoy it or can you enjoy it as much on a cheaper TV albeit at a lower picture and sound quality.
  5. Again completely different arguments. The original argument was the equipment you're using.
  6. You were using the example of paying $15 at a cinema. Which you have now proved, in your case, to be good value. The equivalent of watching a movie in comparison to the op would be someone spending thousands on a home cinema compared to someone watching on a bog standard TV. Is the level enjoyment any different. To a small amount of people yes. An expensive home cinema would increase the enjoyment. For a larger amount no, but they'll buy the home cinema equipment anyway. For most of us, not at all. So going back to the op I'd say yes a lot of people spend far more than they need to, to obtain peak enjoyment. But it's their money.
  7. And how many people could watch the movie with you for that one off price? Watching a movie at a cinema and the op are not comparable.
  8. Only if you watch that one move and only watch it one time. The issue with gaming only came along when games got competitive. It became pay to win. A stand alond game was all about beating your own high score or getting to the next level. Buying a better computer that might help you do that doesn't make you a better gamer or add to the enjoyment.
  9. Again apples and oranges. You are not renting the game or the equipment to play it on. Only when you own a copy of the movie and have something to watch it on does the comparison get close.
  10. You are comparing apple with oranges there. The overheads of a cinema are enormous. What is the proportion of people who will see that movie at the cinema compared to the amount that will see it in total? Again its a minority. The majority will wait until they can get the download or DVD for $10. Then you can sort of make a comparison. What TV and sound system are you using to watch the movie? Is your enjoyment of the movie different to someone else's solely because of the equipment you have?
  11. All I can say to that is boo fekin hoo. I wish kids would drop this sense of entitlement. Hardware companies don't make their money from the enthusiast gamers. Pc gaming enthusiasts are in a bubble of their own self importance. They really don't have a clue at how small their numbers are in comparison with the amount of computers built each year. Most kids couldn't be arsed about pc gaming. They want the instant gratification that consoles bring. No dicking about with setting up or spending hours tweaking to get clouds looking just right.
  12. There is an element of "all the gear, no idea" People who chase the higher numbers, without any significant gain to playability. I'd argue that cyclists are worse than gamers.
  13. There are probably a lot of people who couldn't tell the difference between a $2000 pc and s $800 one in a blind test. But I'd bet that the people with $2000 gaming are in a minority. Most people wouldn't need a $1000 phone, a $200 one would do everything they need. But again I'd bet the phone companies shift a lot more $200 phones. You can put your argument to anything, cars, food, major league v minor league baseball tickets. It all comes down to how much you're willing or able to spend and how much you want something. The lower cost items will always sell much better because most people know they don't need the flagship item or have better things to spend money on. TLDR People who buy the best are in a huge minority.
  14. Not sure from your op if you want to help prevent cyber crime or become a cyber criminal. But that's irrelevant. I hate to be the dick that points out the elephant in the room here. You want to be involved in cyber crime in some way yet you had trouble finding resources, on publicly available websites, regarding regulations. I'd suggest going right back to the beginning and learning the basics of learning how to reaserch before even looking at laws and regulations. This isn't meant to be put down or a dig, just observation that will hopefully help you.
  15. The way I'd do it is to remove the old drive and put it into a USB enclosure. Probably not the most efficient way, but simple.
  16. It's priced accordingly. I can see it lasting me another year or 2 at least, by which time I'd be needing a bigger drive anyway.
  17. I bought a 660p as a boot drive for 2 reasons. 1 trust in Intel 2 good price for nvme Ive had it for around 10 months now, never had a problem. Day to day use for me it's fast enough. Apart from being my boot drive it has Daz studio and a number of 3d apps. I use a hdd for my media and 3d assets, basically because of the amount of data and cost of ssd. I have tried my assets on it and it is much quicker loading them than hdd (huge mixture of file sizes). As for longevity I can't comment, I haven't had it long enough.
  18. Doesn't really tell you much taking an average of mine. It works out at 22.8 years old Newest is 1 year old, oldest is 38 years old. And there are a few in between.
  19. I'm waiting for the George Foreman ROG grill myself
  20. I was really looking at anything simple that might have given it a fighting chance. Failure of these boards seems to be quite common. But they are an important aspect of the old alienware auroras, and add quite a bit of value if working. Just a shame for another one to go to e waste.
  21. I do, but not the knowledge or experience for such small components. I'll try cleaning it up. If that doesn't work I'll offer to the alienware community for spares or repair.
  22. Absolutely, the thing is full of chips and resistors. I hate to think it could be something simple that I didn't try before scrapping it.
  23. So you think ipa and a small brush?
  24. Sorry, that would have helped. Its the control board for the rgb, fans, front io, power and hdd leds It connects to the MB via USB. I was getting no communication between mb and master io.
