  1. Thanks Hoping it wouldn't come to this so I won't be left without my pc while they sort it. As its recognising all the ram and running (for a while) would this rule out cpu memory controller? Want to make sure I'm sending back the correct part.
  2. Help needed, I have been getting "System service exception" bsod Running various diagnostics it has shown an error with ram. Testing various slots and combinations I've narrowed this down to a slot on the MB. Any ideas before I send it back. It has around 10 months warranty left. Asrock steel legend b450m Ryzen 5 2600 32 GB corsair Vengeance 3000mhz ram (4x8gb modules, 2 separate 16gb kits. Speed and timing the same)
  3. Blue means you should preorder a 3080ti as soon as possible.
  4. It all depends on the rarity and how sought after they are. They're certainly not worthless. In good working condition maybe $50 if pristine then maybe upto $100. You will very rarely find old computers that get anywhere near what they cost when new, nevermind taking inflation into consideration. But if you have something a little different who knows? I saw a 16k issue 1 ZX Spectrum sell on ebay a couple of weeks ago for over £500. Average condition, unboxed, no cables or psu. They were £99 when new in 1982. Had it been an isuue 2 or later it would probably have sold for around £40.
  5. Batteries, electrolytic caps and hard drives are the most likely to fail. Ive just got a couple of 486's from around 1995. Both passed a physical inspection and booted first time. They had been in a store cupboard for around 20 years. Wouldn't boot from th hdd at first until I changed the cmos battery. as it kept resetting. Once that was done all good and seems no corruption to the hdd data. As for people saying they would be useless, you need to look at the vintage computing scene. It's alive and well, preserving old machines and programs. Even new software being produced.
  6. Found the holy grail amongst a job lot of floppys
  7. Not the best of photos, but rediscovered these in the garage. Pentium something or others and a mix of 128mb and 256mb ram, I think. If anyone, in the UK, would like any spares from them you can have them for p+p. If you're in the northwest of England and want to pick them up you can have the lot. Pm if interested.
  8. Only thing I use usb c for is my phone. However when I connect it to my PC or charger the other end is regular usb 3. The only benefit I've seen is you don't have to try 3 ways to connect it. If there is another gen on they way then I can see type c passing most of us by with very little use.
  9. I think we have to accept that anytime we're online someone somewhere is logging our details. As stated what's the point of paying someone to do it. The only use I see for vpn is as others have pointed out, to bypass geographical restrictions. Then it doesn't always work, for example bbc iplayer won't work even if I have the vpn set to somewhere in the UK.
  10. Added another 16gb and started a render, I didn't do anything else so only my usual background processes running. 6.7gb of vram used by the render and display. System ram usage went over 20gb. Seem my pc must have been doing a lot of swapping of data in and out of memory.
  11. Assuning the OP is still interested, as they didn't even respond to a question of how they want to turn it on. https://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-es02-usb-24ghz-wireless-eemote-pc-power-reset-switch-usb-20-9-pin-interface Again making assumptions that they don't mean remotly from a completely different location over wifi.
  12. Amd A6 on A68 motherboard *drops mic and leaves thread
  13. Right, so what I've taken from this. My ram is most likely leaning on my ssd for a bit of support. Using the ssd for page filing is not really going to affect performance of other things I'm doing while the computer is crunching numbers. Although no real adverse affect in real time use, it will be putting unnecessary writes on the ssd. I might even see a bit of an improvement in responsiveness with extra ram while prolonging the life of the ssd. More ram fill those two empty slots.
  14. Basically it can only use the gpu to render if it will fit into vram, so it wouldn't speed things up. The system ram is mostly used by the app and unrendered scene in it. So really any extra ram is used for other things while this all going on. Edit: if the gpu is using 6.5 to the the max 8gb while rendering then the app will be using around 12 to 13gb system memory.
  15. I'm not sure about obvious. If 15gb is the max it's going to use with my normal usage then extra would be a waste. If it was bouncing off 16gb then I say yes it needs more. But what I'm wondering is if that 1gb that's not being used could be reserved for something else, and that my system would utilise more should I get it.
  16. First off basic specs R5 2600 B450 mb RTX 2060S 16gb ram I use Daz studio to render. As much as poss using gpu. When I have a render using over about 6.5gb of vram around 15gb of system ram are being used. I've not noticed much disk usage during this time suggesting that it's not needing to swap. Although I'm not looking at this during the whole render process. I either leave it to run or I'm browsing, watching YouTube etc. If I were to add more ram would this help? Is there something I could check to see if the system would use more if it were present, or would it sit there unsed?
  17. For years I've been hitting ctrl alt delete then clicking lock. How much time could I have saved
  18. Ctrl-Alt-Del Lock Your render should continue but pc will need the password to be used again.
  19. I found that I can't add photos using dolphin browser, but chrome works. Something to do with permissions but I can't find it.
  20. Under a Killing Moon was probably the last game I completed. Fantastic game, kept me occupied for hours. Nowadays more into content creation and tinkering. Now the only gaming I really do is on the old Speccy, and a couple of android games to fill the quiet times at work.
  21. Don't know much about the tablets you listed, but I did have an 8" Bush windows 10. I can tell you I found out why small low cost Windows tablets didn't catch on. They are a terrible user experience. Slow and difficult to use. If you don't have it in tablet mode you Need very thin fingers. And if you're going to use it in tablet mode you may as well go Android. An OS designed for that type of hardware.
  22. That's an idea, I have a duff i7 950 I can solder a key chain to
  23. Found this under a load of crusty thermal paste. Put back reapplied paste, changed the unusual size cmos battery. My Ast fired up into Windows 95,after a little tinkering in the bios.
