  1. Yeah I'm gonna pull the trigger on the ram and probably boot drive + mass ssd? Unless anyone has objections
  2. okay, I started looking into ram and real quick can you give this a once over? Is there something wrong with that kit? All the other 4000mhz kits I saw went for $200+, so if that one is fine I'll just snag it now
  3. With the most recent concerns of price fluctuations due to the coronavirus (linus explains), multiple components prices will rise (ram, ssd, ect). I'm holding my build off til the new processors and gpus come out then was gonna build a pc right when I go to college mid august. So I was wondering if It's worth buying the ram and ssd I already planned to purchase later in the year right now before the prices skyrocket. I understand I'll have less time on the warranty so I'm just looking for thoughts on what you all would do thanks
  4. well yeah ofc, I put ublock origin on his old computer but the websites he frequents stop users from having adblock enabled so he probably just has it off all the time.
  5. I just built my grandpa a very entry-level office computer, he nearly fell victim to a tech support scammer asking $900 for a 'firewall'. I think he clicks on ads thinking they're news articles or something so I'm also installing a pihole on his network along with malwarebytes. He doesn't like calling me when he has any problem with his computer even though I'm happy to help so I just want to setup a computer where he should never have to call me for any tech support related to viruses or scams. So what else should I put on his system to ensure he won't get any viruses/scam popups? Is there a better antivirus program out there right now? Any tips are appreciated.

  7. I'm having trouble with IPv6, kinda a beginner but tried to follow multiple tutorials to make it work. In ipconfig I only have a Link-local IPv6 address (still not really sure what this is) but no regular IPv6 address. I've done the following cmd commands: netsh winsock reset catalog netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log ipconfig /release ipconfig /renew along with this I've made sure the ipv6 is enabled in my network adapter, checked for windows updates, checked for network adapter updates, uninstalled any antivirus/vpn, and rebooted the router and my pc multiple times. At this point I'm kinda clueless as this is a bit out of my comfort within the network space. Anyone got any suggestions? My goal is to connect to xbox parties from pc for which I cannot as my server connectivity is 'blocked' even after running various commands, enabling services, port forwarding, and other techniques provided by forums and videos. Router: fios g1100 w/ IPV6 support enabled IPV6 WAN Config: DHCPv76 set to Obtain IPv6 DNS Server address automatically IPv6 LAN Configuration: stateless MOBO: pc mate H97 w/ Network Stack Enabled IPv6 PXE Support Enabled

Specs: MSI 1660ti 2x8gb vengeance 3000 b450 aurous elite ryzen 7 3700x 240gb m.2 ssd corsair 2tb seagate barracuda Hyper X cloud II WIN 10 x64 500W psu Extra info: attached is a CBS log after one of the BSODs, some of the event viewer critical errors (only from the first 3 or so crashes), a critical error DriverFrameworks-UserMode's details page, and one of the two BSOD crash logs used microsoft's windows installer flash drive and key for this system Things I've done but not stated in the whole story: chkdsk memtest both came back no errors I'm so sorry but I even installed DriverEasy to make sure there wasn't a driver I forgot about (I didn't install anything they listed, they were all outdated anyways lol and yes its uninstalled now.) This is gonna be a long list of issues and error codes so strap in, gonna start it from the top. I have just built a new pc using the parts listed (all the parts are brand new, never used), I have updated my bios for the newest ryzen generation so we are all good there. I installed windows using a windows flashdrive and key sent by microsoft, installed all drivers, games and software. After 1 day of use I got 2 BSODs with a stop code of "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL". After this I installed a program to display the BSOD causes. At the same time I looked over at the event manager and saw multiple critical errors when the BSODs occurred, these errors were "Kernel Power Error" and "DriverFrameworks-userMode". Then another crash occurred and it had the stop code of "CRITICAL_STRUCTURE_CORRUPTION" then this put my computer into an automatic repair screen that said Automatic repair could not repair your pc, after this it rebooted into windows. After all that my pc started going into a Recovery mode which it stated my pc needed to be repaired "digital signature for this file couldn't be verified. error code: 0xc0000428". With this screen, I was unable to boot into windows. I then tried to boot off of the flashdrive with windows on it but it would either send me back to the recovery mode, go to a black screen saying "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum.", or send me into the windows install where I would try to install windows and it tells me I cannot install windows on this pc. Then in that same windows install menu there is an option for repair, I tried pressing that and it tells me this pc cannot be repaired. After this I booted back to the drive with windows on it and I was sent back to the recovery mode saying "the application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors. File: \windows\System32\winload.efi error code: 0xc0000098" with options to try again, enter recovery environment, startup settings, and uefi firmware settings. I tried to use both the recovery environment and the startup settings both of which literally did.. nothing... then after another restart I was given a black screen titled Windows Boot Manager telling me "The operating system couldn't be loaded because the kernel is missing or contains errors" status:0xc0000098 file \windows\system32\ntoskrnl.exe (the same thing my BSOD analyzer program told me was causing my BSODs usually). Now I got annoyed and actually called windows support and after 3 transfers I got to someone who tried to fix my issues. While I explained my issues I restarted the computer again and was sent to the desktop (???????). So now his plan was to install the ISO of windows onto the desktop then run the windows installation within windows (i didn't actually know this was possible). about 20% the way through, the pc crashed and sent me back to the Recovery screen. Stuck in this loop again I called and got someone who was really helpful and thought it'd be best if I installed it again from a new flashdrive because maybe I was sent a corrupt version. I then plugged my personal flashdrive with windows on it in and got sent back to the "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum." After that I called again and got someone who had no clue what he was talking about and while trying to explain to him that there's no way both my copy of windows I just downloaded and the copy microsoft sent are both corrupted, windows booted.. OKAY so I then went ahead and continued the windows installation from the iso and it went through successfully with 0 issues. I assumed after this everything would be a-ok. Got another blue screen and was sent back to the Recovery mode which it stated my pc needed to be repaired "digital signature for this file couldn't be verified. error code: 0xc0000428". I did more reading on this error and assumed the digital signatures needed to be disabled to I turned them off through command prompt, the pc then rebooted and went to a new Recovery screen! this one says "It looks like windows didn't load correctly" with advanced options or restart. I went through advanced options and tried to use startup recovery and it tells me windows is unable to repair. I then try to restart and I am able to get into my desktop then the pc restarts back to the recovery screen. I don't really know what to do any my brain is a little fried after going through all this.. hopefully someone knows what I should do.. Thanks! CBS.log

Specs: MSI 1660ti 2x8gb vengeance 3000 b450 aurous elite ryzen 7 3700x 240gb m.2 ssd corsair 2tb seagate barracuda Hyper X cloud II WIN 10 x64 500W psu I just built a computer and have experienced ~3 blue screens with an error code of "Critical Structure Corruption". I'm pretty sure I've updated every driver, installed every update, and checked to make sure all hardware was installed correctly. Attached is the blue screen error log and from what I've seen its linked to memory or drivers. I have run a memory check and it came back with no errors. I have also looked into the administrative events and there are 4 errors relating to drivers two of which are relating it to the "The device HID-compliant headset (location (unknown)) is offline due to a user-mode driver crash." I do have a pair of hyper X cloud II headphones installed and I can see both the HID-compliant headset and my cloud II headphones in device manager, both say they have fully updated drivers. There is also one kernel-power critical error that just says its related to loss of power or unexpected crash.. I'm assuming that was caused by the other errors? not too sure. Hope someone can help, never had this many problems with a computer right off the bat so not too sure what to do. Thanks
