lol, for the 10600k to the 3800x (sameish price in usa rn) its like average of 3% better (in games) for the 10600k. Ine premier pro, better multi core scalling, with the 3800x getting 10% better pudget scores than the 10600k. And you know how the rest goes.

the 8086k is a kickass cpu and should hold its own, if not outperform, the 10600k and 10700k since those overclock pretty poorly and games still generally dont use a ton of cores, even 4x strategy games are pretty heavy on single threaded perf. as an anecdote my buddy recently got a 10600k and it wont do 4.8ghz all cores even with 1.4v. needs like 1.45v

if you did need the extra cores a 9900k would likely be your most cost-efficient upgrade, but the 8086k otherwise be the best you can really get aside from upgrading to a 10th gen i9 or 9900KS which give absolutely minimal benefits. zen 3 however, this should be interesting...

We'll see how things shake out then, but I don't see it leapfrogging Intel just yet.  I think they'll close the gap a bit more.  The 3600 isn't even beating the 8700k yet.

Either way, can't wait to see.

@Dedayog I agree gaming for intel is better. Its actually shoking that oin 10nm intel can still compete against amd. Imagine what they could do if they had 7nm chips?

how do you know they won't? the 10600k is between 5% and 10% faster than the 3600 in gaming. the 2600 was 15% faster than the 1600 and the 3600 was 15% faster than the 2600. roumours are the 5600 will be at least 15% faster than the 3600 again, which should place it above the 10600k.

You know the 5000 series won't be.  If they can't leapfrog Intel with it, then they're behind the 10600k for gaming and as stated the 8086k is damn near as good.

So honestly if the 5000 series can game as well as the 8086k, I will be impressed and surprised.

the 8086k is still a decent cpu, I wouldn't replace it unless you see it struggling.
maybe wait for the ryzen 5000 series launch to see if it's worth upgrading.

No need to upgrade ,but if you buy every 2 years then it's time I guess.

10600K is the best gaming CPU for the dollar currently but barely better than your 8086K OC'd to 5 or 5.1GHz.
