  1. I'm just trying to find out if it matters if my games are on a faster drive than my OS drive.
  2. So, long story short I am looking to install a second NVMe drive that is dedicated to my games library. My question is whether my current setup will affect performance or not. I am currently running Windows off of a Samsung 970 Evo+ (PCIe gen 3) drive. So would this affect the in game performance of a gen 4 drive like a Samsung 980 Pro?
  3. Ok, so it's warning me that using bit locker may cause an issue. Got it. Thank you. Last thing I wanted was to accidently encrypt my whole drive.
  4. So I have a question before I go ahead an enable fTPM in the BIOS of my ASUS x570-F. When I switch the setting to enabled, it tells me it mentions something about bitlocker and how if something were to happen to my windows install, then I would be SOL. My first thought was, " this just means that if I use bit locker, that it will store my keys in the TPM, so it's identical to before, but instead of the keys being tied to my Windows Install, it's tied to my TPM chip." but then I thought, "but what if it means that this will completely encrypt my drive?" So, to be safe, I wanted to ask before I did something that could potentially shoot myself in the foot.
  5. She said that it just wouldn't correctly transcribe what she dictated to it. I think that part of the issue is that her voice is very shaky, which makes it very hard for the software to accurately transcribe her voice.
  6. So I'm currently trying to help an elderly woman get a laptop setup for herself. She has never owned a computer before but there are some hurdles that we are having trouble overcoming. 1. She is dyslexic, so she has a very hard time reading the screen. -This isn't that big of an issue. I simply turned on narrator, and while I find it annoying as hell, she doesn't seem to mind it. 2. Because of her dyslexia she can't type. So she needs a good voice recognition software to allow her to do things like search the web. -We tried the integrated speech recognition in Windows, which was awful (big surprise) and she has said that she has tried Dragon, but that didn't work for her either. Does anyone have a recommendation for a software that might work for her better than the two mentioned above?
  7. The AIO might look better if that's your aesthetic, but the performance return would be negligible (unless you front mount it then maybe). I think a new case would be much better for your temps than an AIO. Something with a mesh front would allow for more air to be drawn in, and it would help with the air that is flowing across all of your components.
  8. So I recently made the switch over to UEFI boot in preparation for whenever I manage to get a nVidia 30 series card, so that I can utilize resizable bar. After making the switch I have begun noticing some quirks though. 1) I have a dual screen setup (one HDMI, the other Display Port) and my BIOS Post screen no longer appears on either of my displays (I can't even mash to still get into bios, I just don't get the option to boot to bios) BUT I have noticed that if I unplug the display port screen from my GPU then my post screen will show on my HDMI screen, but it does not exhibit the same behavior when I only plug in my Display Port screen. 2) My system seems to be rather unstable when I am booting from UEFI. I have had numerous crashes in games that have run fine in the past, and earlier today I had windows hard lock on me. No blue screen message, it just locked up and then restarted. All of this seems too frustrating and weird for me to think that it is usual behavior. I am running an ASUS X570-E Gaming with a 5800X (my gpu is a Gigabyte GTX 980) so it is possible that its because my bios is still going through stability issues, but I haven't been able to find anyone else having similar issues. I've only been able to find posts from people that say "just enable CSM Legacy mode." Which would prevent me from using resizable bar when I am able. I'm stuck at a point where I don't know if this is something that I can fix or if it is out of my control.
  9. So a bit of an interesting update. If I unplug my display port monitor from the back of my GPU, and only leave the HDMI monitor plugged in, it displays the post screen.
  10. Yes, I'm mostly just curious about getting back into bios if I want to change something.
  11. So I've moved over to having CSM disabled. I've noticed that I'm not getting a POST screen. Is that normal?
  12. I'm actually trying to avoid a full system reinstall if I can. I know where everything is in my BIOS. It's just a matter of me not wanting to disable CSM Legacy Boot and then breaking it six ways from Sunday. Sweet, I know that my CPU and Mobo are compatible, but I just need to figure out if my GTX 980 can UEFI boot or if I need to wait until I can get my hands on a new GPU.
  13. So I have some questions about the process of enabling resizable BAR for when I finally get my hands on a GPU that supports it. What I (think) I know: I know that CSM Legacy boot must be disabled My GPU must support UEFI only boot (as far as I know mine currently doesn't) My drive volume should be using the GPT partition style People say that you must reinstall windows if you are disabling CSM Legacy boot I've actually heard mixed results, but the consensus is to reinstall Windows What I would like to know: Can I create a system image of Windows and reinstall that instead of a fresh install? IE) Disable CSM Legacy Boot, and then reinstall Windows with the System Image I worry that this will just copy over whatever files I don't want.
  14. So I work as an on call technician. Today I was asked to do a pre-install survey for some VO-IP phone installations. I was able to get most things on the checklist figured out with no problem but I'm struggling to figure out whether the network is Convergent or not. I attached a quick sketch up that I did in paint to help show what I'm dealing with (I know, the sketch isn't great). The places circled in orange are where they want to add the phones. The circled comps will be daisy-chained to the phones for internet, while the circled switchers will be connecting the phones to the network. Initially I was thinking this was a non-convergent network, but now I'm not entirely sure (The diagram that the company provided has me confused).
