There's still some schmutz from the contact adhesive, just waiting on the paint to dry.
Also did a coat of glow in the dark over the yellow, it seems to be /just/ visible enough.

Faulty fan bearing maybe? Could try lubricating the fan.

If it was a hard drive failure then the computer probably woudn't boot. You could try replacing the HDD with an SSD anyway, it would at least make your laptop a lot faster.

Those are basically the only moving parts, so it has to be the fan or HDD, and if it still boots onto the HDD then most likely it's the fan.

King_Jahh reacted to LogicalDrm in Positive or negative air pressure
So its 59 CFM at 2000rpm for 120mms. If 200mms are MF200R, they are 90.3CFM at 800rpm (which is their max rpm).

If all fans are at 800rpm (thats ~40% for MF120R), front brings in 180.6CFM (minus filters and other things in the way), rear takes out 23.6 CFM and top takes out 47.2CFM. Thats 70.8CFM out. So at 800rpm which is max speed for 200mm's, you have positive pressure.

If all fans are at max rpm, you have negative as exhaust is 177 CFM. This is all theoretical, ofc. So if you keep exhaust fans at lower speeds than intake fans, you will have positive or neutral pressure all the time.

At this point I feel obligated to tell you that pressure has really only effect on dust accumulation. It doesn't matter that much on temps, having airflow overall does.

Showcased not long ago at Chinajoy 2019, Yeston (the company that many may remember for their RX 580 2048SP PET that GamerNexus reviewed) has once again reached a new height at combining anime waifus and computer processors to create this beauty. Selling at 501 USD and includes lipstick, mousepad, fan, keychain and a 100RMB coupon, this is one of the most expensive 5700XT out there, pricing higher than the anniversary edition and just slightly lower than the ASUS strix OC.

It looks like your system is indeed old. To fully utilise your GPU, you need to upgrade your system to at least a more recent one.

Anyway, if you want to upgrade your system without spending much, try to search for a better CPU of your generation (such as Core i7-4770K or 4790K). It won't give you a lot of boost, but should give you a better experience overall. You can opt for 2nd hand temporary (cost much cheaper) until you have the money to upgrade your entire system.

74 degrees under load for a laptop really isn't bad. My laptop sits consistently in the high 80/low 90s if i'm gaming. All dust free and re-pasted and everything.

Laptops just have a whole lot less space for heatsinks and use tiny fans so yeah, obviously some are better than others but any laptop will be running insanely hot in comparison to a desktop with equivalent components

King_Jahh reacted to unclewebb in I'm literally loling at my laptop right now
For Intel mobile CPUs, the Resource Monitor calculates the Maximum Frequency percentage based on the CPU's base frequency.  Mobile CPUs have a low base frequency and uses lots of turbo boost to reach their maximum speed.  Based on this, it is normal for the Resource Monitor to report Maximum Frequency percentages way over 100%.

The base multiplier for the 4700MQ is 24 and the maximum turbo multiplier is 36 so the Resource Monitor reports that the CPU is running at almost 150% of its base frequency.  That number might look stupid but it is correct.

I adjust my laptop so the Maximum Frequency percentage is as high as possible.  CPUs reach peak efficiency when they are running fast.  A fast CPU can process Window's background tasks quickly.  This allows the CPU cores to spend more time in the low power C7 state.  In C7, the core is disconnected from the voltage rail and the internal clock so it is running at 0 MHz and 0 volts.  That is how a modern Intel CPU saves power.

Here is a good paper from some smart guys at Berkeley that explains the "race to sleep" concept.
    https://www2.eecs.berkeley.edu/Pubs/TechRpts/2009/EECS-2009-140.pdf

The important data to watch is how much time your CPU is spending in the C0 state working on tasks, and how much time it is spending in C7, consuming next to nothing for power.

When properly setup, Windows 10 can be very efficient.  Every time you install something new, you have to keep a close eye on how that new program changes the C0% and C7% residency time.  It only takes one poorly written program to screw up a lean system.

When a computer with a 6 core CPU is idle, the individual cores should be spending 99% of their time asleep in C7.  Forcing a CPU core out of C7 where it was happily sitting at 0 volts and then immediately sampling its VID voltage will provide you with a meaningless number.  C state residency time is important.  VID voltage and the reported CPU MHz when idle are not.

What you really need to be doing with an 8750H is under volting both the CPU Core and CPU Cache by approximately -125 mV.  You can use Intel XTU or ThrottleStop to under volt.  This is what most enthusiasts do to help control heat.

Have a prism on my 2700X (stock speeds). Note the prism cooler has a toggle switch to choose between low and high fan speed modes, i keep mine on low. I have the fan set on 50% from 0 to 60 degrees, then a straight gradient to 100%  from 60 to 75 degrees.

Idle temps range from about 40 to 50 degrees. Max load (Cinebench etc) get its up to 76 degrees with the CPU boosting to ~4GHz on all cores and pulling ~120W

During gaming it sits around the high 50s to low 60s (My main game is warframe, not very CPU intensive so YMMV)

I also have a Masterliquid ML120 RGB which i used to run on it, with dual fans in push pull exhausting air. Temps were slightly better but basically identical. peaked at 75 degrees (obviously took longer to get there) Idled around 42-45

Stuck with the air cooler for simplicity

I'd say you need to get a 240 AIO to make the performance difference worth it, the prism is a half decent air cooler already so a 120 AIO is barely any better
