It does work.  Turns out the first one I have received was faulty.  I don't know if it was just bad luck on my side but the second card I got, I had trouble getting it reconized in device manager and so to install the drivers.  I finally got it to work.  It was a bit of a pain as I had to reseat the GPU and restart several times untill it finally showed up in device manager. If you are looking to do some 1080p gaming and you don't mind lowering the settings in more demanding games then I say go for it.  its a nice modern card with low TDP so its perfect for a small form factor computers with a weak PSU.

Don't forget to update the bios. Its kind of must for these old PC's to get full advantage of new cards :))

Thanks for suggestion. My BIOS doesn't have an option of adjusting Temp Limit, however I still envestigated possibility of me hitting Temp cap, given that both during FurMark stress testing and gaming im hitting about 75C. However what I've learned is that my Temp Limit was and still is 92C, even thought I never changed anything in that regard.

However, I decided to stress test using FurMark and got limited by Power - something I didn't encounter during gaming. I'll try and look into fixing that, maybe by buying a new power adapter (180W instead of 130W I have).

I don't think a 180w Adapter is needed as Laptop is only gonna get 130w. If there is no option there then

    1) Download Dell Power Manager or MyDell or MyAlienware , You can select profiles there. Choose Ultimate Performance.

    2) Download Alienware Control Center. I heard it works on some G series laptop

    And

+) To check temp limits of the gpu, Download GPU-z. Go to advanced and you can see the current temprature limit.

A small update. I tried playing OW2 and during gameplay I see following:
             | GPU | CPU |
    Util, %  |   85|   60|
    Temps, C |   75|   75|
    Power, W |   26|   30|

Based on this, I need help figuring out follwing:
    - Why is my GPU not topping at 100% constant?
    - Why are my temps so good? GPU and CPU not going full ham?
    - Power draw for CPU and GPU doesn't see to bee hitting limit of 130W power supply, even considering other components power draw
Maybe there is a potential bottleneck in RAM, SSD or whatever else or some kind of software limitation? Where do I look for these?

From what i think, Your Laptop manufactor has set the Temp limit for the gpu at 75C hence it starts throttling at 75. Same can be said for CPU. Try enabling High Performance of Ultra Performance in bios ( I have a Dell too so go to Power section and select Ultra Performance it will raise the temp limit to 84 C )

I am very conflicted about this decision. As someone who has used windows 10 all his life I like the layout and productivity of it. What are the pros and cons and would you recommend it?

    Thanks in advance!

As someone who has used windows since june leaked build, i have started to dislike the round edges and new UI. For sure it seems like a heaven at first but i wont say its worth it. Also bugs too but W10 has them too but W10 for me is smooth AF ( I got a laptop with 10750H/ 1 TB NVME /16 Gigs ) Dunno why sometimes W11 feels sluggish. I wont really recommend but hey i will say you should try it atleast. So much for human curiosity. Just update it and if you dont like it you can easily roll back to W10 in 10 days. Sorry for bad english 😄

    Hi!
My DELL G3 3579 has been a good personal computer for me for the past almost 4 years, however lately, for the past year or so it's perfomance seems underwhelming. Whenever I'm playing Overwatch, I get gradual FPS drop from I'd say 150 to 100 and it stays that low for unpredictable amount of time. I tried multiple times to pinpoint what's the issue is, what are the potential bottlenecks in my system and so on. But no matter what I've tried, I still get those drops.

Here's the list of symptoms I pointed:
    - GPU usage stays at 50-60% and CPU at around 80%, while temps are stable around 60 for both units
    - Neither of GPU or CPU are getting power throttled, according to HWINFO64
    - CPU clocks are staying stable at 3100 MHz boost

What I have alreday done and what worked to improve my prefomance:
    - Undervolted CPU and GPU
    - Removed Intel DPTF

My laptop specs are (original + upgrades):
    CPU: Intel Core I5-8300H
    GPU: GTX1050 4GB
    RAM: 16GB (8x2) DDR4 2667MHz
Drive for OS and Overwatch: ADATA SX6000NP PCIe 2x
    OS: Windows 10 19242.1645

My question is, where do I look for issues, bottlenecks or whatever it is to improve laptop's gaming perfomance, because looking at temps and GPU and CPU usage I can see potential improvments even if little.

What are the temps while gaming and TDP of GPU/CPU ?

  6. 17 hours ago, DANK_AS_gay said:

Worse, I think they actually cause some of the issues.

"GPU was fine, No problems with it until i replaced the thermal pads with 0.5mm Thermal Right Odyssey"

So not only is it incapable of keeping those specs cool, the cooler also is not resting correctly anymore.

Dell one's looked slimmer than 0.5mm tho so ig thats it then but i cant find any 0.3mm pads here. Only thing close to that is  Thermal Grizzly Carboanaut that i think is designed for CPU's IIRC

By Dell, or by Intel? Intel's TDP range is usually not very relevant to laptops, OEMs will change power targets as needed depending on their cooling solutions. You didn't seem to state which laptop you have, but it seems like Dell meant for that CPU to run the lower power target in order to not overwhelm the cooler when the GPU is under load. CPU was running almost 30W and the GPU 50, you have the CPU doing almost 50 so the GPU has to throttle back to 30. Seems like the cooling solution can only dissipate ~80W of heat.

If it's at all similar to my mid-2015 MacBook Pro, new thermal pads/paste won't really help because the limiting factor is the tiny finstacks. The cooling setup is able to pull heat out if the CPU and GPU just fine even with stock paste, it just doesn't have the finstack surface area to shed that heat.

Vostro 15 7500 ( it is famous for being slim and bad thermal performance but the thing is that GPU used to work fine before )

  8. 17 hours ago, DANK_AS_gay said:

You may need thinner thermal pads, or maybe even thicker ones. Can you see the thermal pads from the side while the cooler is installed on the motherboard (to check if there is a gap or if things are too squished)? Did you replace the thermal paste?

Have repasted like 20 times. Actually i think too more thinner thermal pads are needed but i have the most thin ones that are avaialble here ( 0.5mm ) i cannot find 0.3mm here. BTW i once for experiment tried no thermal pads on gpu vrams to see if its the thickness that is causing a cap but it still overheated. From the two vrams that are visible, they look kinda squished i mean in good contact of heat spreader

  9. So i started having thermal issues with CPU ( GPU was fine, No problems with it until i replaced the thermal pads with 0.5mm Thermal Right Odyssey )  since i bought the laptop. Did a lot of things to try fix it, Used every good paste , changed thermal pads. Nothing worked. Yesterday , i modded the bios to unlock undervolting ( It was locked due to plundervolt , i7-19750H ). Now the CPU performs way better and good in stress tests. Reaching 90C at 45W when it used to reach 100 at 27W. Designed TDP is 45W.

Now since the cooler is shared, and GPU overheats as soon as i launch a game ( Throttles at 84C and causes CPU to reach 90 way sooner ) It started in january when i replaced the Dell thermal pads, Since that i have done everything but nothing has worked. Now the CPU is fine but the GPU is fricking up. And I have noticed fans doesnt go up too.

Room temprature is nearly 38C tho pretty hot ik. So anything i can do to ramp up the fans >? or to cool the GPU. Before the thermal pads replacement it never crossed 80C.

GPU is 1650ti 4 gigs GDDR6. 50W is max tdp but it throttles to 30w and drops clock to 1300 MHZ from 1850 MHZ.

    Undervolt?

I just kinda had this happen to my laptop with the same CPU after a restart where it would only draw 6 watts when it could have easily drawn 95 and it was at a constant 900 Mhz. What helped me was unplugging the power brick and plugging it back in. It looks like it got confused and went into battery operated mode but somehow a really restricted one. Have you tried unplugging it? Maybe this could help since it helped me

i tried and it doesnt make any difference 😞

  11. So i used Dell SupportAssist Recovery ( to reinstall W10 ) in like december but ever since that CPU throttles to 1 Ghz and something while gaming. this makes the game stutter insanely to like 30 fps from 60 and surely unplayable. This is very frustating. CPU doesn't even reach 80C when it starts to throttle. I have reinstalled windows multiple times but didn't work. Replaced my thermal paste with thermal grizzly still the same. I never had this issue before the supportassist recovery. I have disabled Dynamic Tuning and it wont work and have disabled the Processor power management which didn't do anything too. Please Please Please help me.

It had never happened before the support assist reconvery. My Laptop is a Vostro 7500 ( i7 10750H/1650ti/1 TB nvme/ 16 gigs ddr4 dual channel)

It's probably just hidden. Windows should have multiple to choose from and not just Balanced.

Try following this and see if it helps you. You can create one manually if you need, or edit the balanced power plan to be more like High Performance.

    https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/missing-high-performance-power-plan/

If you manually edit the balanced Windows power plan or create a new one, in the "processor power management" section, set the "minimum processor state" setting to 100%. That is likely what will fix your issue. By default in balanced mode thats usually set pretty low like 10% or so.

    plans.png

I set it to 100% but the CPU still massively underclock itself now no like 900 mhz / 1200. Its insanely stuttery and annoying

Sounds like your laptop is currently set for balanced power mode. Go into Control Panel - Power Options, and try changing it to High Performance mode. It's a laptop so theres most likely an easy icon you can click at the bottom right. Usually shaped like a battery icon. Double click that or right click to open it and see your power options.

There is only a balanced plan there. I tried enabling other by powercfg commands that didn't work.

  14. So my laptop is being weird lately since i reinstalled windows 10 through Dell SupportAssist. I have a Vostro 7500 ( i7 10750h/1650ti/16 gigs ram and OS installed on WD SN550 nvme ). So the max clock speed of cpu is 5 ghz but it do reaches like 4.2 ghz while normal browsing and stuff but whenever i start a game like Halo infinite the cpu just underclocks itself to 1.8ghz and locks there. The temps are like 60C when gaming and even when its on 4.2ghz while browsing. When i run the stress test it still does underclock to 1.8ghz max. Idk what is going on here.

  15. So about 2 weeks ago i bought a WD SN550 Blue 500 gigs nvme 2 ssd for my Vostro 1500 Laptop ( i7 10th/1650ti/16 gigs ). I installed it in the ssd slot ( One is occupied by Sandisk X400 m2 ) I installed windows 10 and it was running smooth ( Just used it for half a hour) but then I upgraded to windows 11 and now sometimes i get a bit of hiccups. I don't know if its because of windows 11 bugs or the ssd underperforming.

Also Windows startup takes more time than what it took on my old m2 drive.

I did CrystalDiskMark and it showed not good results according to what was on the box. (Im getting 1900mb read instead of 2400)

  16. So i have a Vostro 7500 ( i7 10750H/1650Ti/16 gigs ). Usually temps are around 74C at max cpu usage when turbo boost is disabled but whenever i enable it the tempratures goes to 100C in literally 5 seconds or so. I would keep it at disabled but i need some extra juice to play games on this laptop. It was better before usually around 88 but idk what happened now that it just shoots upto 100 in few seconds

  17. I have a Vostro 7500 ( i7 10750H/1650ti). It has 2 nvme m2 slots. One is taken by Sandisk X400 but i want to add another one. Nvme this time.

I have four ssd in my budget.

    1) Kingston NV1

    2) Crucial P2

    3) WD Blue SN 550

    4) Apacer AS2280

Which one i should get to make it my primary drive ?

  18. So i have a Dell Vostro 7500 ( i7 10thGen/1650ti/16GB ram). It already has a Sandisk m2 ssd of 512 gigs. There is a second slot in the laptop for ssd and none for hdd so im stuck with a ssd upgrade. Recommend me a good budget nvme 2 ssd that can fit into the laptop.

    Im considering

    1) Kingston NV1 512 gigs ( Around 75$)

    2) XPG SX600 Pro 512 gigs (Around 75$)

    3) Crucial P2 500 Gigs ( Around 65$)

Most modern games are totally fine with 8 gigs, even triple-aaa's with the settings cranked- That is, unless you have background applications open, then it all falls apart.

I have Discord and Steam running in background. I checked with msi afterburner and usage hovered around 7.6 gigs while playing.

Modern games are going to bottleneck on a quad-core CPU or the GPU long before the the RAM IMO.  It could just as easily be not enough CPU cores/threads considering six or eight cores is becoming standard now.

It was totally fine and smooth before season 6 update. And CPU and GPU doesn't reach full usage since i have capped fps at 60.
