Only go for Intel if you have an Intel currently and looking for an upgrade. It makes no sense spending a lot of money to build a new PC on a dead platform.

And you just missed the Microcenter deals that just ended yesterday. They were giving out free DDR5-6000 RAM + a $50 discount on motherboard with the Ryzen 7000 CPU.

It's user dependent.  32 is worthwhile if you have 30 tabs open on your browser at all times, while having 1 or more games open.

If you're planning on donating the RAM anyways, yeah, upgrade.

Eh, being an enthusiast is all about having things you don't "need". If everyone just went for what we needed, we'd all have £10 keyboards and 1080p monitors.

It's probably the best time to upgrade, especially as once the chip shortages are resolved, the price of the 3900X is going to fall so you'll end up worse off when you come to sell it.

If you can get a 5900X for a price close to MSRP, it's worth it. Now's actually the best time to upgrade due to how high the prices are in the used market, assuming you can get a decent price on the part you're upgrading to.

I did exactly what you're considering, going from a 3900X to a 5900X and sold the 3900X for pretty much the same price I bought it for new in the first place.

For $150 difference, it's a no brainer. Buy it. It'll do more as an upgrade than $150 will do for pretty much anything else in your system, especially if you undervolt it with PBO2's curve optimizer.

Tried it on my r5 3600 and on the first run with the recommended voltage of 1.275, it settled with CCX1@4225mhz, CCX2@4200mhz. Compared to my manual OC of 4.3Ghz @ 1.325 (SET) or the default CPU settings, it looks like a straight undervolt. I did another run with CTR, but this time I set the voltage to 1.325 and it got me the same OC results as my manual OC. The tool achieved the same OC results as I did manually, but it took only 15 mins instead of a day of testing.

24gb sdram was possibly overkill 5 years ago but not today.  Just having 30 browser tabs open along with a few applications can take up most of the 16gb I have in my desktop.

I am installing 24gb temporarily until my second 16gb ram stick comes back in stock where I shop.  My new Predator Triton 300 with RTX 2600 and i7 deserves better than just 16gb.

You need to choose the Ryzen balance power plan, it said it on the article, that's where the fix are. It had my 3900x drop to 0.92v at idle.

Update, I think I fixed it, I turned the switch on the pump to "auto", and then in the bios I changed the fan control to DC mode and turned off the "smart fan mode", now the fan is reading a constant 1900rpm and auto adjusting itself.

    Thanks all for the help.

I did research a couple of days on those cd key sites like kinguin, the conclusion is that they are not legit. The keys they're selling were brought from stolen credit cards and then resold them to turn them back to cash, that's why they're so cheap. I want my dollar to go into the developers instead of thieves.

If you get an external sata connector for an internal optical drive, make sure it includes a separate plug for power as the usb port alone can't power a full sized internal disc drive.
    Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Unitek-Adapter-Converter-Optical-Support/dp/B00GLL41MA/ref=sr_1_8?crid=18S70RYH9WU16&keywords=sata+to+usb+3.0&qid=1564074073&s=gateway&sprefix=sata+to+usb%2Caps%2C127&sr=8-8

Wow this design look very neat. The main reason why I hesitated to buy the internal one is that the adapter I'd found look very messy and ugly.

I think I'll settle with internal + adapter, thanks.

16GB really isn't that much. I have around 30 tabs in chrome opened regularly plus photoshop and that pretty much drained all of them.
