  1. Hey all, I've been recently hosting modded minecraft servers from time to time on a dell server with 2 E5-2630 v2s with blazing fast 1033mhz ram. I got my hands on some free parts including an FX 8320 with 1866 mhz ram and was considering switching occasional minecraft server to the FX, since Minecraft favors single core speeds. I know the FX has much faster clocks speeds, but I still heard they kind of suck. Which one should I stick with?
  2. Did a couple CrystalDiskMark benchmarks and the writes on striped were much faster (mainly sequential writes), but the read speeds were pretty similar (for the two samsung drives). The Western Digital drive didn't perform as good as the Samsung drive, but since the differences are less than 1 GB/s I'll probably just keep the Western Digital for now. Western Digital Drive (Unfair benchmark since it already had files on it, whatever) Samsung 970 Evo Plus (Windows Striped) Samsung 970 Evo Plus (Single Drive)
  3. I've got three SSDs and I'm running Windows 11. I have 1 WD SN750 250gb which is where my Windows is currently on, and I have 2 Samsung 970 EVO Plus. I do not care if my data gets lost at any point. With this in mind, do I make a striped volume on Windows (would this give me better performance), essentially using the 2 samsung drives for boot, or should I just use the SSD that performs the best for Windows and use the other two for something else. Also, I have tried hardware RAID 0 on my Gigabyte motherboard, however the RAID driver only supports Windows 10 2004, so in Windows it just show each individual drive.
  4. Think I bricked an h710 mini after trying to cross flash it to IT mode. It worked for a bit until I took out the card and tried putting a battery onto the controller. Didn't work and made the controller not show up anywhere. Is there absolutely anything that I can do with it?
  5. I have two graphics cards. One is a gtx 1050 ti and the other is an rx 570. They both have 4gb of vram. Is there anyway that I can combine both of them so I can use that 8gb for ai model training? If this is at all possible, but needs the same brand for the card, I also have a gtx 750 ti which also have 4gb of vram.
  6. I am storing mostly pictures and videos, both compressed, but still regular files (not zips or anything special). The server will run Ubuntu 20.04. I'm not experienced with running zfs, so I would have to look into that.
  7. Have a second server, compress all of the files, and send it to that server that has less storage on it. Rethinking it, the raid 5 array with all four drives doesn't seem like a bad idea. There is a 5 year warranty plus 2 million hours MTBF. High availability sounds like a great idea which I will have to at some point implement it.
  8. I'll probably hook it up and use zstd to make backups of important things. Offsite backup is a really good idea which I'll have to get into, but meanwhile something like backing up to tape might work okay.
  9. I have 4x6tb WD data center drives (and 1x4tb if that's important) and I was originally planning to make an array of three 6tb hard drives and then keep one in the server as a hot spare, but reading around some people say that hot spare isn't a great idea. I'm looking for good reliability while still having a good amount of storage. I am onsite 95% of the time. Should I use all four 6tb drives or should I use three and have one spare, but do I keep that spare hot or cold? Is there anything useful I can do with my 4tb drive for this single array? This array will be raid 5 and be on a Dell r720 server. These drives are also brand new, but I'm also looking to use them for a long time and use them in a data center environment.
  10. I have tried to set my computer to sleep, but every time that I did it failed. Here are the steps that I have taken for my computer to go into recovery mode: Sleep button pressed in Windows Computer Turns off (I Press the power button) Computer turns on (Nothing shows up) Computer audibly restarts Computer posts but shows "Your pc/device needs to be repaired" with an error code of "0x000000e" After 30 seconds or so on that screen, computer shuts off on it's own. (I press the power button) Computer boots into Windows (not from sleep). I am using Windows 10 Pro 64bit My computer specs are: Ryzen 5 1600 Gigabyte Aorus Ultra Gaming x470 RX 570 GTX 1050 TI Rosewill Capstone 750 watt WD Black NS750 250GB Bios is on F51 The only software that I was using is Firefox and Discord. I have also tried searching up the error code with possible fixes, but they did not work for me. On some occasions on step five, it showed that there were missing files, but turning the psu off and back on got it to boot.
  11. I'm hooking it up to a device that doesn't have any sata ports. I'm turning on the power supply without a computer.
  12. I have a 3.5" hard drive and I want to plug it into a USB port. I can use a sata power connector from my power supply to power the drive. I already have an adapter for this, but it has a SATA connector and unless I sacrifice it I don't think it'll work. Are there any cheap Sata iii to USB 3.1 adapters without the sata power or any other similar alternatives?
  13. Yes I am sure. I found a $347 dell optiplex with a 500 gb ssd. My grandparents don't watch movies on their computers (or videos or music). They will most likley not be able to use the full 500gb with a couple hundred pictures.
  14. They gave it to a repair shop, the repair shop gave them their data and kept the computer.
  15. One of my grandparents wants a new computer and they will not let me build them one so I need to pick out a prebuilt for them. Of course because they are old they found a super overpriced HP Pavilion and I told them not to buy it because they are literally getting scammed. Preferably it would have an SSD because hdd are SLOW! Are there any good prebuilts that will handle web browsing for under $600 (yes, super overkill)? And by good I mean a good bang for the buck. Backstory: Grandparents bought a $1200 HP Pavillion about 6 months ago, then something died in it (most likley the hdd) and they want a new one. They are going for the same lineup, not sure why but eh.
  16. I have removed the battery from the phone and put it into a sealed glass jar. This thread is considered solved.
  17. Okay I have safely seperated the two wires and taped them in electrical tape.
  18. I have tried taking apart my old phone (moto z2 play) and when disconnecting the battery terminals i disconnected the wires from the connector. I now have two exposed wires that are extremely close to one another and are extremely close to touching. How can I safely fix this without blowing up my battery?
  19. Takes okay pictures. It doesn't last me throughout the day. I have to charge it at least 2-3 times to get through my day. It's not wrecked it's actually in good condition. I will most likely be upgrading to either SE (SE) or the 11 next year because software support is supposed to be dropped next year. But 6 years is still very good.
  20. I thought replacing the battery simply disabled battery stats. If the touch ID got lost then that might mean that you may have replaced the fingerprint sensor.
  21. Im an ios developer and I haven't learned to develop for Android yet. Upgrading to Android would be a positive in a lot of ways, meaning I would have to spend double to money, for a new iPhone + android. But if I wasn't, I would most likely upgrade to it.
  22. I use an iPhone 6s as my daily driver, after upgrading from a 6. The battery is at 82% maximum capacity and it only lasts 1/4 of a day before dying (if using it). The main thing that I really notice is the battery capacity and everything else works great. Sure, the bezels are a little bit on the chonky side, but I have never used a iPhone X or newer so I don't really mind. It will still be getting software support till next year and I am very happy about that. For a lot of people this phone is way too old, but for me, it's perfectly fine. I LOVE the headphone jack and I use 3d touch all the time. I know for a lot of people the resolution isn't good enough, the bezels are too thick, the camera is too bad, it's battery isn't enough, and it doesn't have wireless charging (or fast charging), but is there any reason for me to switch as of right now? Feel free to ask me any questions about using something everyday from almost five years ago. Edit: I am also looking to buy a new iPhone within the next 6-10 months. Anything major differences between iPhone 11 and the original X?
  23. I am using qemu/kvm on Ubuntu and I am trying to run a virtual machine. I try to pass through a graphics card (gtx 1050 ti) but there is no output for the graphics card that I can see. I followed this guide. What am I doing wrong?
