  1. Giving this a little bump to see if anybody can help
  2. Hi all! I have a MacBook Air M1, base model but with 16gb RAM. I have a Sandisk Portable SSD 1TB. (up to 520MB/s see link for exact model) The SSD is connected to my MacBook via the cable that came with it (USB-C to USB-A, blue on inside she should be USB 3.0??) using a Satechi Type-C Pro Hub Adapter (supports up to 5Gbps on its USB-A interface, see link for exact model: ) However I am only getting speeds of 34MB/s with the Blackmagic Disk speed Test I am not expecting the full advertised speed of 520MB/s or 5Gbps, but 34MB/s seems extremely slow. Isn't that USB 2.0 speed? Any idea is to what the issue might be? Is it possible the cable is not really a USB 3.0 or is there another issue you can think of? Thanks! Gijs
  3. Thanks all! Will go for the 16gb base model. 256gb should be no issue as I use external SSDs Found a friend who is still in college, will use his discount :)
  4. Really??? They did make me prove it when I bought a Macbook Pro in 2015 (I was in college so no issue ;) )
  5. Hi all, I am looking into buying a Macbook Air for on the road editing (and for couch surfing ) It will be used on the road for some light photo editing and importing using Lightroom Classic and Photo Mechanic. (42MP pictures) Most of the editing (and all the really heavy/multi layer etc editing) will however be done on my main desktop at home. Other than that, the basic stuff: browsing, youtube, word,... If it wasn't for Lightroom I would just get the cheapest base model. However, considering Lightroom I am doubting between the base model and the base model with 16GB of ram. From what I read, the 8 core GPU really isn't much beneficial above the 7 core (for my use case anyway), but the ram difference is still unclear for me. What do you guys recommend? Get the upgraded version or just stick with the base model and save myself €230? Thanks for your help! Gijs
  6. Well since the A80J is €2000 or even more here in Belgium, it is a pretty easy choose for the C1 at €1400-€1500 than.. lol
  7. Hi all, I am looking to buy a new TV (Time to upgrade the 10 year old one) Was looking into the LG OLEDs, but can't really make sense of the differences anymore. Want something around 55 inch am I am going to mount it flat to the wall. Mostly use it for movies, gaming not really. But maybe adding a small gaming PC to it later. So image quality is most important for me. Adding external speakers so sound quality not important. Any recommendations for which model to choose? (region is Belgium and budget about 1000-1300 euros, can be stretched a bit of worth it) Thanks! Gijs
  8. Thanks, I will check both of those out!
  9. Hello all! I just started my first job (jeej!). The office gave me a jabra headset which works fine but is just very uncomfortable (for starters it is on-ear). So now I am looking for a headset that I can actually wear for long periods of time at the office. My preferences: - Over-ear - Decent padding - Non gamer look (Office environment friendly) - Mic (of course) - At least build in volume and mute button in the wire (accept-call button not necessary but a nice bonus) - Or wireless (not necessary) - Preferably less than €100 (prices in Belgium) Any suggestions? Thanks! Gijs
  10. Btw, 3090 starts at €2300 (almost 2800USD) I understand the shortage and demand vs availability issue, but I think it is crazy for the official stores to jack up their prices like this. They are basically acting like scalpers...
  11. So, I was looking at the budget I have to save up to buy a 3080 when they are finally available (somewhat). The cheapest price I find trough an officical retailer is €1100, converted that equals 1324USD. Those are scalper prices in America! A quick search in America they start around 840 USD. I know there always have been price differences. But this is absolutely massive? Anybody knows why that is?
  12. Hi, I currently have a pretty decent monitor for my colour accurate work. However it is 60Hz with high latency. I am looking for a new display with a main focus that remains on colour accurate photo editing. However I play some games so I would like it to be 120Hz (or 144 or ...) Other requirement is 1440p and at least 25 inch. (prefer bigger, like 32, but don't think budget allows it?) Budget is about €500. Another option is to buy a gaming focused monitor to use alongside my current display, in which case the budget drops to €300 (because then I wouldn't sell my current one). In this case I would still prefer a 1440p to go alongside my current 1440p. Also my current monitor is 25 inch, so a second monitor of (about) the same size would then be preferable. Anybody advise on which direction of the above 2 mentioned to take? And then some actual monitor recommendations would be very welcome! Thanks in advance! Gijs
  13. You mention 3D programs and CAD design as a (partial) use case. Depending on how heavy your cad design is, 64GB might not be the worst decision. However if it is only basic CAD design with not too many parts, 32GB will be just fine.
  14. Thanks everybody! Basically what I was thinking, personally I won't need the 12GB then. I feel like the camera quality of my iPhone 7, most of the time, is enough for me. I assume basically any 2020 phone (including the 8T) is gonna do an equally good or even better job? What phone would you recommend if camera quality was a big factor? (In the same price category: 600-700 euros; keep in mind that even the iPhone 12 mini starts at 805 euro in Europe or at least in Belgium)
