Hello i came across this 2 rams, spec wise they are both same CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 16GB 2X8GB 3600MHZ CL16 CMK16GX4M2Z3600C18
and the other CORSAIR VENGEANCE LPX 16GB 2X8GB 3600MHZ CL16 CMK16GX4M2B3600C18 the only difference is just the letter "B" and "Z" so the "Z" one is compatible with my prefered mobo msi b450 pro vdh plus and the "B" one is what the store near me instock and its not in the QVL are they the same???? what should i do?? and what is this ver 3.31 mean in the QVL?? thanks in advance.

The v4.31 means it is Samsung b die ic's. If everything is the same spec wise (including ic, pcb, etc) and the only notable difference is that number, you won't have issues, even if they are different i doubt 3600mhz will be an issue.

    Hello,

I built a new PC recently and have had a bad time trying to get my Ram running correctly.  I reset motherboard back to defaults, and if I set XMP i fail AIDA64 memory tests almost immediately.  I even RMA'ed my ram and have the same issue.

    Specs:
    9700k
    MSI z390 gaming edge
    32gb ballistix 3200  ( https://www.newegg.com/ballistix-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820164140?Item=N82E16820164140 )

I've tried upping voltages to 1.4 and 1.45 on DRAM, fiddled with SA and IO voltages, but it seems no matter what I do AIDA64 fails quickly.  The only thing I can think of is I've seen people saying ram can learn the timings wrong.  I don't know much about timings except the basics.  Here is my stock timings vs XMP

Any ideas?  I've been reading posts by @MageTank but I can't really tell if something is completely out of whack.

Raise tRDRD_sg and tRDRD_dg to 9 and 6 respectively, this will destroy performance but it will test if that is the issue with the motherboard, if this is the issue, you will have to most likely run 3100mhz or 3066mhz or update your bios.

Sounds like you might have really old and unsupported hardware.

Either way, be sure to not connect the machine to the internet, neither XP nor Vista are supported anymore and thus they don't recieve security updates!

Alright, so, weird problem here: i had  a computer running windows vista, but then i changed some of its hardware and for some reason  it wouldn't boot. tried setting it to oobe/audit mode but that didn't work either. so i went to reinstall vista just to find out that when i boot it to the cd it says "windows is loading files" and when it finishes it just gets stuck.i transferred the hard disk to another pc and tried it again and it worked perfectly so i turned on oobe and transferred it back just to find out that, again, it crashes on boot. so i had the idea to install windows XP and then upgrade it from there (because windows XP's installer uses a different format, i thought it might work) and surprisingly, not only did it install it, but also boot into it! however, my version of windows XP is 32 bit and windows Vista is 64, so i couldn't upgrade that way... so what i've got now is a computer that will boot to XP but not any of the newer versions of windows (tried it with 10 also).
i SUSPECT that the problem MIGHT  be my bios, since they seem to be somewhat corrupt, however, i'm using a legacy MSI board that seems to lack any kind of bios flashing software (model: P965 Neo). i've also tried installing MSI's Live Update 6, but it requires .NET framework 4.0 and windows XP doesn't come with it. when i tried to install it it failed with the error code "0x80070643". dunno what it means

basically, can anybody explain to me why i'm able to boot to XP but not newer versions??? and also, what does error code 0x80070643 mean in the .NET framework installer???

Now though I am on the market for a new cpu cooler and I was thinking the Be Quiet Dark Rock Slim as I think it is a really good choice for the Phanteks enthoo evolv itx case that I have!! The only problem is that the RAM is really tall (51mm) and I am not sure if that cooler would work!! If anybody can help me find out which aircooler is better I would really appreciate it !! Thanks in advance!!!!!!

Your vccsa and vccio are too high, don't put those voltages over 1.235V. The voltage and timings you will get will be different for you then anyone else, however from my experience i have gotten 4000mhz 15-15-15-36 to work, at 1.47V (with a fan). Also turn your cpu oc off if you run into issues while oc'ing ram just to make sure thats not the issue.

Stress test HCI memtest to 200% using 13.5GB of ram. If you get no errors, drop to 15-18-18-31 then 14-17-17-31, etc.

Honestly, no, those timings are way to high for 3000mhz. I suspect you didn't raise voltage and let the timings set them self, instead of doing that, set vddr (ram voltage) to 1.38 and set primaries to 16-19-19-31. Those timings should be really easy at that speed with that kit.

MEMbench is a part of Ryzen DRAM Calculator and all it does is run the correct amount of HCI memtest threads easily, to use it, download Ryzen DRAM Calculator, then go to the MEMbench tab in it and set all threads (unless you want to use it, then set it to all but 2) and use 75% of system memory. Then set to Stop at 200% with the task mode on single. If you do get an error, simply raise voltage in +20mv increments, anything under 1.425V is 100% safe.

First thing you should do with those timings is stress test, if you are unstable you can get worse performance due to the memory spending time to correct errors. An easy way to run HCI memtest and the way i use it, is to download ryzen dram calculator and run the MEMbench thing in it to 200% per thread, using 80% of memory capacity. Answering your question of tRRD_S and L drop as far as they go, 4 and 6 is probably lowest achievable, im not sure what 3 and 11 will do due to my inability and lack of testing due to my motherboard not setting them, sorry ?. After stress testing to make sure its stable, you could probs lower tRC to at least 55 if not lower, tCWL usually does tCL -2 or -3 on a kit like yours (might be -1) so that can be lowered, tFAW is at least tRRD_S x 4 but i usually add 2 because it adds stability, no harm in trying to lower though. Honestly since im on Intel i can't help with anything else so good luck lowering those numbers!!!! Im always open to any questions btw BTW, i recommend trying xmp on, it will set some timings you cant see and usually will benefit performance, its not good on all kits though so make sure to test bandwidth and latency.

Since you are running at 3333mhz, first raise voltage to 1.4V, set tRCD to 17 keep tRP at 19, then if that works drop tRCDRD to 10 and see how low tRAS goes, Stress test. Then drop tRFC to 470-490~ and tRRD_S and tRRD_L to 5 and 8 respectively, then set tFAW to 22, stress test again, then set tWTR_S and tWTR_L to 4 and 12 or 3 and 11, then drop tWR to 16 then lower by 2's until unstable and do the same from tRTP but start at 12, stress test again, then if stable, keep dropping all timings until you are unstable. If you are only just unstable like you spit out an error at 200% in hci mem test, bump voltage up by 20mv, just dont go over 1.45V vdimm. If you have any questions feel free to ask

AshleighH42 reacted to SteveKaboom in Understanding overclocking specs for RAM, CPU, and motherboard
    Hello all,

I am working on planning my first PC build and I'm trying to understand some specs that I'm seeing. Also, any general advice or suggestions on my build design would be appreciated.

Right now, I'm planning on using the following components:
    AMD Ryzen 7 2700X CPU
ASUS Prime X470 Pro motherboard (currently looking into a few other X470's though)
    G.Skill Trident Z RGB RAM, DDR4, 4 x 8GB, 3600 MHz
    Samsung 970 Evo NVMe SSD
Either an RX 590 or a Vega 56 GPU, undecided which yet.
Case, cooling system, and PSU are currently undecided, considering an NZXT H500 chasis (would love the H510 Elite, but right now I'm not currently planing on getting a motherboard with ADD_RGB headers, so I cant justify the price tag)

    Here are my questions:

Per the motherboard specs, it can handle memory speeds of up to 2666MHz non-O.C., and 3600 O.C. If I want 3600MHz clock speeds on my RAM, will I need to overclock it to 3600MHz?
Since factory tested speed on my RAM is 3600MHz, what am I really overclocking, my RAM or my motherboard?
I've seen people talking about raising the voltage on RAM and CPU's to overclock. If I decide to over clock, how much should I raise my voltage for each?
If I overclock, will my memory and CPU ALWAYS run at those speeds, or only when its required? For example, will they overclock during simple web browsing, or only while under extreme use?

    Thanks in advance.

in my last post i was told to get a combo of a 2070 super and r7 3700c... i recently was able to shuffle some money around and now can get an r9 3900x with a 2060 super, is this a good combo i make youtube videos with premiere pro and then i stream on twitch. a few questions, is the ram too tall for the cooler. does the motherboard have good wifi and decent oc capability? (its 0 for a reason because i will be getting this as a gift) if another mobo keep it in the $250 range.
also just general feedback before i buy the stuff. (i have case and psu: dark base 700 rm850x)
