  1. Found the answer! https://www.reddit.com/r/beeper/comments/18z4hem/whats_my_best_option_for_imessage_on_android/
  2. Please don't get into arguments about what is better lol. I have my reasons for making the specific choices. I have been android most of the time, but it's useful to have it set up like this for me and my life situation. The simple question is this: If I don't remove my number from iMessage, will I keep access to the number on my iMessage account?
  3. I'm moving, and leaving a phone here. The phone here will be on a USA network, and is android. I'm hoping to keep iMessage tied to my US number. I'll use google to view messages from the USA based android phone, for 2 factor and other similar items. So... I want what everyone complains about, I think? "I'm not getting messages to my android phone! It still thinks I have an iPhone" is the goal. If I don't change my iMessage settings, will it continue to send iMessages to my iPhone, even though it's attached to an Android phone? I realize that any regular texts won't get to me, but honestly most people in my life have an iPhone... I've seen solutions where the goal was to get iMessage on android, but I don't need that. (Oh and if you're like 'why pay for the line still' it will still be used by my family. And this way I can keep my number.) I'm also trying to find a good/cheap remote desktop option. And... there isn't much for android. Edit: Oh duh. Airdroid. And can do 1 phone free.
  4. " too incompetent to be running a business." seems to be what it is.
  5. It ended up taking over two weeks to fix. They said because of a technical thing they can't give me extra time. Such a s**t company. Edit: Additionally. HELLA COMPLICATED to get set up. If you message and message eventually you get software access.
  6. Solidworks: Around two weeks ago I signed up for the maker edition. I still do not have access to the software. They say they are 'working on an issue'.
  7. Very much! They... aren't helpful. Oh, I have a Gen5 NVME I'll install windows to later. I have two 1TB's. Random reads and writes. I'm trying to nail down every piece until the only thing left is the software.
  8. Oi! I need to learn about memory tweaking then. I tried it with the paid software, and much better. I was running it was x32 earlier, and it was slower. But, if I can keep the 95GB of RAM and get these speeds, I can have larger RAM disks.
  9. Thanks everyone! Part of this is that I don't really understand what timings mean... previously the goal was always 'number big' get two sticks of 16GB DDR3 and 1600 and I'm golden. But that was the last time I upgraded parts, and it wasn't for work. So this is stemming from this thread here, where I'm trying to find some Ram Disk software, and choose to go with it or Gen5 Raid 0. When I saw even the bad DDR5 Ram disk has 2000MB/s random read and writes I thought, "I'll get that!" and proceeded to get the wrong one. I'm doing 3D CAD stuff for work. There are... odd slow downs that I can only attribute to tiny reads. I've replaced part by part trying to find what's making it slow. Tekla Structures is the software. I linked video in the older thread. I've been modeling with it extensively, and there are times when I go too fast for the software. Much of that is from it being older software. But some of it is because it reads a database that is the CAD model over all, with tiny bits of info. Here's an example of a report... I'm convinced each time you select something, and I'll have... many items I sometimes need to select. I just selected everything in the model. I don't often have to do this, and avoid it as much as I can. Still, it's like five minutes of flashing program, black screen to to regular trying to select 51882 objects. I'm used to seeing the "not responding, I'm thinking" screen. This one is frustrating, it's in a loop... I break the loop by left clicking, but also deselect all the things. (This gives me an idea though.) Of course, part of the solution is finding how to treat the program. But, if I can 'select all objects' without freezing... I can EVERYTHING I need to. (And yes there are filters and stuff, so 90% of the time it isn't like that) Here I have just a bit of an example of what I'm doing. https://youtu.be/pUdca7e71oA
  10. This was over in software, but it's a specific hardware question... so posting here instead of a reply to the old thread. I done goofed. Bought DDR5. Thought I had a good one... It's DDR5 6400. Like large size, but slow. (Compared to other DDR5 sticks.) Would be great if I needed lots of RAM. Budget (including currency): $300ish USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Work, trying to get really fast RAM disk. Other details: GIGABYTE X670E AORUS PRO X AMD Ryzen 9 7900X Corsair MP700 Gen5 1TB I did this upgrade today, and fell victim to the standard mistake: Not looking at details and going for size over speed. I bought this: https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-96gb/p/N82E16820374499?Item=N82E16820374499 DDR5 6400. I can return it still. I am trying to get very fast DDR5 to use as a RAM disk. This is much faster than what I had, but it isn't the speeds I was hoping for. I'm sure there's some config to help, like XMP (I think that's it) is enabled. Would this be a good choice? https://www.newegg.com/team-48gb/p/N82E16820985110?Item=N82E16820985110 It's less total RAM, but much faster. Also, This: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/corsair-vengeance-32gb-2x16gb-7200mhz-pc5-57600-c34-intel-xmp-udimm-desktop-memory-with-rgb-lighting-multi/6554930.p?skuId=6554930 Cheaper, and I could go for 64GB but be stuck. (And isn't 4 sticks slower than 2? I remember something like that.)
  11. I remember my grandfather explaining that concept, in regards to missile systems and radars. Make sure the cables are firmly seated, that's about the only major thing there. Read the manual for the power supply and the GPU.
  12. I gave up trying to find an affordable one. It seems easier just to build a PC.
  13. Cooling addon maybe? These are amazon links, no affiliate. More to show the concept of what to look for. If your phone runs cooler it will preform better. https://www.amazon.com/Controller-Android-Cooling-Vibration-Wireless-iOS/ https://www.amazon.com/ACEDAYS-Semi-Conductor-Universal-Cellphone-Streaming/
  14. Sweet! That answers many questions. Very yes to upgrade. Top is my current Gen3 NVME and bottom is my ImDisk RAM disk on DDR4. (How did cute anime girl get there!?!? ) I think I'll try the trial of SoftPerfect, and if that goes well make the purchase. I'll be making a buy hardware post soon! Tekla makes a 'core' backup every 10 changes to the model, and 1 per hour. That is backed up to Dropbox. Each time I take a break, I save the model, and make a backup that goes to Dropbox as well. EDIT: I should add, I also have a battery backup. Soon I'll have some sort of automated backup of those. ImDisk has a cool sync with folder option, and it saves everything at shutdown (be sure to have fast boot OFF.) It also has a sync button. I'd like a 'sync ever X time' option though. Maybe there's a command line version, then I can automate it with a task. This is awesome! I might finally have Tekla, which has been a pain in the ass to run when it's overloaded the way I load it, run fast! Which means I won't get distracted in the middle of working... look at my phone, and then look at facebook, and then a half hour has gone by without work being done.
  15. Systems I’ve tested this software on to lead me to these conclusions: Older/work system 3070 with DDR3 system and SSD, some intel processor and a large amount of Ram. Personal rig: 3080 upgraded to 4090 and Gen3 NVME with ryzen 7 and DDR4. (Full specs in my post history will edit this) With my work, the software that I use will freeze up sometimes if I use it too quickly. It is in between. CAD and bill of materials type things, called Tekla Structures and the software isn’t very well optimized. It’s the sort of thing that’s been updated slowly, over 20 years, similar to AutoCAD. I’ve been debating whether I should have the program save files in a RAM disk, or a RAID 0 SSD. When I am operating the program at high speeds, sometimes I will watch task manager. Nothing really spikes. For a while, I thought that meant that I was just imagining the lagging. But, I’m not. I can post links later, but look at my post history for YouTube links. More and more I’m coming to the conclusion that it is the random reads and writes are causing my issues. These are all very tiny files being read. The graphics cards are all way overkill for what I’m doing. Processor too. And, even with DDR4 and GEN3 SSD, it goes slow. It is better than the older system, with some lag in more demanding situations. 1st question: can someone with DDR5 use crystal disk mark on a RAM disk? There are some free ones out there you can use. I’m curious about the smaller random read and write speeds. 2nd question: Have any of you used the paid software? Crashes don’t matter, nor do power outages. The items that I’m working with have automated backups that work impressively well. But I don’t want to have to manually copy files any time I restart my computer. (Though I guess a script would do the same as that) sorry if I went into too much detail, I’ve used voice to text for part of this. And thanks for the help.
  16. Ohhh good idea! I might go ahead and get a Gen5 drive, and then raid 0 with the current drives. I'll have to mix max could instead do the full Gen5 upgrade... and that Best Buy 0% interest is just sitting there... And damn it, it is way faster with the legacy off. But the colors are ugly as F. Which if it were 'just work' it's fine, but it is also harder to distinguish parts. Thus making the job harder, in the past I've found the lag better than lack of viability. This isn't COD, I don't need shadows, silly Tekla. A note about my job, I'm working for an engineering firm doing the detailing. Near the end is the steel of the building. I've been having issues with Ghub (switching is slow enough, and when tekla hangs it thinks I'm switching software. I swap middle mouse and right click, for this job you spend much time rotating, which is middle mouse. But when I change focus to firefox or something, logitech Ghub switches the mouse, and I pan instead of rotate.) and I think it's time to find a way to hard code the mouse to work in my 'at work' mode instead of switching. Also, my hope was to get such an OP system that the sofware could be slow and it wouldn't matter. When I'm modeling I can work fast enough that the program lags and has to think. Yea... Get5 Raid 0 NVME is the way to go, DDR5, and maybe... Ryzen 7 AM5? https://youtu.be/G6lB8zg02ts
  17. They have a digital dashboard, I'll give that a try. It has a game mode I'll turn on. I didn't think to see if they had software! And this software is poorly optimized. It doesn't help that I am letting it run in legacy rendering rather than the newer rendering, but it makes the model look gray and is harder to work with. Here is a video showing the studdering. It should be smooth, and it's the same with OBS off. Though... I will be making some changes to the model itself to improve speeds. For example, there are bolts that I don't need to render. But I'm relatively new at this.
  18. I am trying to speed up my PC NVME SSD. Currently, I have: CPU: AM4 7 3800X Mobo: MPG x570 Gaming edge wifi (like why does it need wifi in the name?) Memory: DDR4 2 sticks of 16GB 3200 4090 NVME: WD - BLACK SN750 1TB Internal Gaming SSD PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe The problem: Jerky motions in Tekla Structures, a 3d CAD software. If I'm reading the speeds correctly, they're normal for that drive. For some stuff with work, I feel like if I could tipple or increase the speeds more it would be a benefit. I've been trying to track down some slow downs in a CAD program, and I believe it is down to drive speed now. I've sort of blown my budget on the 4090... but what would be the easiest route to a faster boot drive? Something like a this Gen 5 NVME? The future plan is AM5 and DDR5, but I currently can't afford that. But maybe I could do a Gen5 NVME to at least max out my drive speeds? Crystal Disk Mark: CPUZ:
  19. Have any of you used Soldiworks for makers? I bought it last week, the 1 year subscription for $49. Thought it was a good deal, but then it says this: I tried other computers, but it turns out many others on the official forums have the same issues. Another irony is this: They reply to my support request ON THE PLATFORM I don't have access to. So, I get an email saying "go here to see the support reply" and I get the above message too.
  20. Can you please lock this thread? Thanks to most of you for your replies, except for the one guy. I see the action I need to take, and the comments are becoming unhelpful to the extreme.
  21. I'm glad I have enough intelligence to understand your suggestion is 100% counterproductive.
  22. I had a coworker once who was like this. Why I noticed what my relative is doing. The coworker, He played GTA five. The online one, and his character was his girlfriend. He flew out to New York City years before this, to meet a girl. But he was catfished. All the way to NYC… she wasn’t real. So he had her as a girlfriend. His character. Always talking about the cars he got her and apartments and stuff. Was an amazing artisan with framing too. Great at his job. One day he stopped showing to work, and a month later his apartment complex visited work. He was gone. No one knows where. As to my relative… I agree. I’m talking to my mom. Hopefully I can visit him, we don’t live in the same area. But I tried to encourage him over the phone. I’ll tell him to track traffic. That might help.
  23. That's what I suspect too. It's like he knows enough to be dangerous. Hell, he taught me most of what I know about building computers. Instead of Linus growing up, I had him.
  24. A relative of mine thinks he is being hacked. He tells me that via a multiplayer game, someone figured out his IP address. He's absolutely sure that someone installed root kits on all of his PCs, and his phone. They are sending him secret messages via twitter, but they appear to be porn spam messages. He has reinstalled linux many times, and now keeps on of the systems offline. I'm not worried he will see this, because currently his home is offline because his custom router he made after the first hack is hacked again. His new cell line has 'hacked', and "shut off" because of suspicious activity. He has a new phone number now. Here is what I think is happening: I'm fully confident in the video game he met cheaters. Red Dead has many steam reports of it. So like a low level character could kill him and become a bear or something. Then, he thinks they're a hacker. Suspects his hacker crosses the linux distro from the proton layer cross over to regular linux side. (didn't happen) Thinks they got his IP from steam multiplayer (could happen) and hacked his internet (maybe could happen?) and installed rootkits. But like... this is stuff Iran does to Canada, not RDR cheater to retiree, right? He has NVME drives he's sure has the root kit on it. What should he do with them? And like, what should I tell him? I think he needs to see a counselor.
