Hi Everyone was hoping for some advice on my first build. I live in South Africa so the pricing structure of components is a little different. I am considering 2 builds. Both builds will use the same 500W PSU and Case. Excluding the PSU and case the builds are:
Build 1:
GPU: Gigabyte RX580 Gaming 8GB R2999
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600 (6C/12T)
(Base 3.2GHz Boost 3.6GHz)
(Wraith Stealth stock cooler)
MB: MSI B450 Tomahawk
RAM: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport LT DDR4 2666MHz R4299 (Bundle of CPU,MB and RAM)
Total: R7299
Build 2:
GPU: Palit GTX 1660 Dual OC R3900
CPU: Intel i3-9100f (4C/4T)
(Base 3.6Ghz Boost 4.2GHz)
(Intel Stock cooler)
MB: MSI B360M Bazooka
RAM: 8GB Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 3000MHZ R3699 (Bundle of CPU,MB and RAM)
Total: R7600
For Both builds I already have a 60Hz DELL S2718H AMD Freesync monitor. I do not have budget to buy a new monitor right now but in a year or two I could look into upgrading my monitor to get more frames. I would like the build to provide atleast for now 60fps at Ultra settings such that in the future I could simple buy a new monitor and optimize the settings to get higher frames.
Here is where my lack of knowledge fails me. I would ideally only be using this to game and would have discord or steam chat open at the same time. I will not be streaming. Here are my main 3 concerns:
1) Build 1 provides lower fps due to the ryzen clock speed but less CPU usage. Build 2 provides higher fps due to the high intel clockspeed but the CPU usage is higher. I would not like to experience intense stuttering if my CPU usage is too high due to 1% lows.
2) Build 1 can take advantage of amd freesync but has lower fps. Build 2 has higher fps but I would need to use Vsync, however would it be able to achieve over 60fps consistently to overcome Vsync dropping my frames to 30fps and is the input lag/ stuttering worse?
3) Build 1 has a better CPU upgrade path and cooler than build 2 and build 1 can be overclocked on the CPU side to around 3.8GHz, Build 2 cannot.
My basic thought process on these builds is will Build 2 be able to provide high enough yet constant fps (no stuttering) to overcome the need for freesync. Such that in the future I could keep the 1660 and swap out the MB and CPU and get a new monitor to get higher fps. OR is it better to stick with build 1 and swap out the CPU, GPU and Monitor to get higher frames in the future? Which build do you recommend if you had to choose between the two?
