  1. Yeah I doubt a bag would kill it as SD cards have been known to be found in the ocean or ran though washing machines and still work. I grabbed one of these at a London drugs for like 5$ or something. Way better than keeping them loose or in a bag.
  2. I feel a bit undergeared with just my 70d but as usually just do in front of the greenscreen videos I don't really need much else. -70d + 18-135 -Sony NEXF3 + 18-50mm -Zoom H1 -Generic shotgun mic -Generic Green Screen Kit (3 lights a big green sheet) -A bunch of other photo accessories that usually travel with it I think the 70d will be getting replaced soon as I want something that is more stream friendly but here it is sitting on some half falling apart tripod as I try and make my monday video. I don't really do much outside shooting but I want to build a kit in the next couple years for that.
  3. Put my vote in for a Sony A6000. I started with a NEXF3 and still think it's a pretty good camera if you just want go out and shoot. Here is a old sample from my F3 Also if you want to upgrade the lens but don't want to drop tons of cash you can adapt old lenses to the E-mount pretty easily
  4. Oh yeah I'll likely record a video of how it ended up and likely live stream the editing. It'd like it to turn out sort of professional but it'll likely end up kinda candidy as I don't usually shoot people but that is part of the learning aspect of this whole thing. I'm mainly concerned that we'll all like the pictures. If they turn out good enough to find a way into my portfolio they'll be put in there if they aren't they wont be.
  5. Yeah I wouldn't do any "lol we're gamers" shoots. I hate that sort of stuff. "Gamers" should also pretend to be real people sometimes. I don't think we have any local camera stores but yeah part of this shoot is to learn what to buy next.
  6. Yeah I plan to do a bunch of reading and watching in the next few days preparing for it. As for gear my stuff is more geared towards the video side so most of my lighting can't be moved but I do have: A 70D with the kit Canon 18-135 3.5-5.6 , a Canon 50mm 1.8 and a Sigma 70-300 4-5.6. As I said I don't have any lights but I'm going to be shooting outside during the day so I hope I can get by without any extra lighting. A Variable ND Filter as well as a set of those slide in filters. One of those cheap circular 5 in 1 diffuser/reflectors When I was travelling all over B.C. I started to make a kit but after I quit that job I kinda stopped buying camera stuff and started to refocus on PC gear. So I never ended up buying the red rings I wanted or getting around to owning flashes.
  7. Yeah when I do take photos I am usually aiming to get only a few keepers and a whole bunch of ones that I learned something with. I would never consider myself a photographer but I'd at least like to know how it's done and for me the best way to find that out is by messing up a bunch and finding out I suck real bad at it. The FIRST thing I told them is that it's likely to be super awkward and that it's likely to be pretty bad and they seemed cool with that. Also I ALWAYS shoot as raw as I can. Mainly because I hate JPGs but also to make it easier to edit.
  8. Pretty much this is about as far as I currently am but yeah I don't expect it to turn out awesome. Currently I just told them that I want to shoot them in their "natural" environment and expect that'll be a bunch of outside stuff so I'll bring a gear bag+ reflector+diffuser and hope it turns out for the best. I am already running around looking at youtube videos while I am stuck rendering but the lynda idea is a pretty good one I'll check that out as well.
  9. So I am generally a video guy who does tech/gaming content and was talking to a friend about how my portfolio is lacking in pictures with people in them. One thing lead to another and now I am shooting him and his girl friend next Friday. As you might expect I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I AM DOING! So I ask what are some pro tips/online resources that I can use to not make myself look bad?
  10. My first camera was a Sony NEXF3 so I'd say for 300 you should look for someone selling their NEX on the cheap and grab one of those. They are great for getting into it.
  11. metro all day every day but it doesn't work so well when you like to use the beta steam.
  12. @abdul94 you should PM me that when you are done with it. I like to look at other people's work and hijack all the good and some of the bad ideas.
  13. @abdul94 Yeah this is one of the things I need to work on for sure. I mean I could just throw some of the stuff I've already made there but I'd rather make something more interesting that shows off my skills. So I need to work on that. @Subcola I like doing both but I figure that the editing is easier to get a job doing. So I'll likely try starting as editor guy and helping out on the other side as much as I can or am allowed. also I agree with practice, practice, and practice and I'll keep doing that!
  14. I am not sure where to put this but I'd like to know/get some advice as I've kinda hit it cross road in my life. So I am a semi young dude (25) living in Prince George British Columbia who got into making videos because of places like LTT and Giantbomb and I'd like to start making money doing such work but I have no idea where to start. Much like the LTT staff I learned mostly by doing. Making my own videos and streams leaving a trail of bad or broken videos along the way. I've learned most of the Adobe suite for editing and have been streaming since the old days of FME. I've used Xsplit and currently use OBS for several hours a week as a streamer/youtuber. This is all great and stuff except it doesn't really prepare you to jump into the industry... So my questions to you are what does it take? Who do you talk to? Do I just send work to people and hope they hire you?!
