  1. My objective with the new set up is not to increase my WiFi speed. My objective is to have a new router (that also happens to be WiFi 6 capable) with a better DHCP Reservation management interface, and for devices to be able to more quickly & consistently establish a connection. With my current setup, I can be in a spot where I am getting 150mbps WiFi speeds (which is fast enough for my WiFi uses) BUT devices in that same spot will have trouble establishing a connection. It's not a WiFi signal strength issue. As best as I can tell, it's an issue with the routing/IP/DHCP, which is why rebooting the router always solves the issue (for a while).
  2. I have no doubt that the setup you described would perform better, I just thought/hoped it wouldn't be necessary to get such a high end setup. It seems like it would be cheaper to get a single WiFi 6 router unit, since most discrete routers probably cost close to as much as a WiFi 6 router and I will still have to buy a separate WiFi AP. I'm pretty happy with the throughput/coverage of my current setup/placement of my wireless AP. I just wanted more reliability when it comes to devices connecting / not having to reboot the router so often. When the devices do connect successfully, the speeds are good enough for me. Even if I were to get a dedicated router and separate WiFi AP, the two would pretty much be placed right on top of each other anyway, since they're both already placed in their most ideal locations.
  3. Hi all, I’m trying to get a feel for the landscape of WiFi 6 routers available right now for my home network. While specific product recommendations will certainly be appreciated, what I’m really trying to get is a broader idea of which brands/series of routers have “good” management interfaces. I have never had to shop for a router before, so I really don’t have a sense of what each brand/product line’s management interface is like. I had been using Apple’s Airport series of products until they were discontinued and have been using the ISP provided combo modem/router/WiFi AP units ever since. A specific feature I am looking for is the ability to export/save/backup the DHCP reservation list/table, so that I easily restore it, should the router ever need to be reset to factory settings. The reason for wanting to upgrade from my ISP provided combo unit doesn’t so much have to do with WiFi performance, but rather, my desire for a better management interface, and more consistent/reliable device connection experience. Real time monitoring of each device’s utilization would also be great. A solid iOS app to manage/monitor the router would be a nice plus, but not is not a must; the desktop browser management interface must be “great” though. We have CAT6 wired throughout the house, so any demanding use (such as connection to a Synology NAS from desktop computers & even laptops) will mostly be done over Ethernet. Smart TV, Apple TV, game consoles, as much as possible is hooked up via Ethernet (>10 devices connected to a dedicated Ethernet switch, which is then plugged into the ISP combo unit. WiFi usage is generally limited to smart home devices (we have ~15 LIFX bulbs), iPhone video streaming, and a laptop or two web browsing – hence why the fastest possible WiFi is not a priority & why I’m ok with only going for a WiFi 6, not 6E model (unless they are the same price, then sure). I think that with so many devices to juggle around, the ISP provided router combo unit is struggling to manage the various devices, because a couple of times a week, a device will have trouble connecting until I reboot the router combo box…So I want to create a DHCP reservation table for as many devices we have at home as possible to hopefully increase reliability/consistency of devices being able to establish a connection. Thank you for your advice!
  4. Issue solved. Mods, feel free to delete this thread if you want. I got a reply from Microsoft OneDrive support: -- [Windows 10] Hi all, For years, I have made my (D:) drive the location of my OneDrive folder because my (C:) drive is a costlier NVME SSD and the contents of my OneDrive wouldn’t benefit meaningfully from the additional speed of it. More recently, I become aware of OneDrive’s “backup” feature which allows the contents of your Desktop, Documents folder, etc. (all of which are located on (C:) ) to be synchronized to OneDrive even though those folders exist outside of the OneDrive folder. That sounded like something I could benefit from, so I enabled it. However, now, when I open up my OneDrive folder on (D:), there is a copy of my Desktop & Documents folder…which actually makes perfect sense in terms of “why this is happening from a technical perspective.” Practically speaking, I think it’s easy to see why I don’t need/want the contents of my Desktop & Documents folder on (C:) to also have a copy taking up space on (D:) of the same computer. So what I’d like to know is if there is a way for the OneDrive app to not download a local copy of my Desktop & Documents folder? When I navigate to those folders on (D:) using Windows Explorer, right click, “Free up space” under the OneDrive section of the menu, it will remove the local copy of the file on both (D:) as well as (C:). What I would like is for there to always be a local copy of the file on (C:) but not have it also exist locally within my OneDrive folder on (D:). Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
  5. Hi everyone, I’m wondering if there is any software for Windows 10 out there that focuses on the “magnetization” or “snapping” of windows to the edge of the display? To be clear, I do not want the size of my windows to be changed/resized in any way; I just want to be able to quickly align the left edge of a window to the left edge of my display without a few pixels the window being off screen or having a gap of “wasted”/unused pixels between the left edge of the window and the left edge of my monitor. I understand that AquaSnap does provide this functionality; I briefly installed their free trial, but my gripe with it is it seems to also change a bunch of other properties/behaviors/shortcuts….so many changes that it would be practically impossible (incredibly tedious & time consuming ) to manually revert every other settings/behavior back to Windows’ default behavior, leaving only the magnetisation of windows active. So if there are any suggestions out there for an app that would accomplish this, with minimal other changes (or have a one-click option to turn off all changes, allowing me to manually turn on ONLY the features/changes I want), I would be immensely grateful. Thank you!
  6. Hi everyone, I’m wondering if you have any recommendations for backup software that would allow me to create a system image of only my boot volume (C:) while still having an additional (D:) drive mounted to my Windows 10 PC? Of course free would be preferred if it can get the job done, though I’d be willing to pay $5-10-ish if I have to. I’m rather clueless when it comes to anything command line, so a GUI is a must. I’m aware I can dismount (D:) when using “Backup & Restore (Windows 7)” in Control Panel to exclude it from the system image backup but I’d like for this to be a daily routine, so this method is more tedious/labor intensive than I’d like. (if I don’t dismount (D:), then it seems like there is no way to exclude its contents from the System Image created via the method above). Also, for any suggestions made, would I able to use the default Windows tools/utilities to restore from the image, or would I need to use the same piece of proprietary software used to create the image? Thank you.

  8. Work, because you game at home and Macs suck for gaming. note that I say this after having had 7 Macs in my lifetime as my primary home & work computers (ranging from the original fruit coloured iMacs, iBook, PowerBook, MacBook Pro ("classic" pre-unibody design), MacBook Air, 27" iMac, fully maxed out in every possible way MacBook Pro 15" with Retina Display). And despite being an iPhone & iPad user in addition to the various Macs I've had, your channel is still my favourite channel on YouTube (literally - no exaggeration). If I could only ever watch one YouTube Channel for the rest of my life, it would be yours. (I know it may be hard for some people to believe, but I love both Macs as well as building my own PCs)
  9. Red highlights on the PSU make it a fav (although I'm liking the look of the case as well!)
  10. Haven't seen one in person before (maybe I will get to if I win this contest ) but from the video, the fake carbon fiber actually looks quite good to me.
  11. If I was only allowed to watch one YouTube channel for the rest of my life, it would be LinusTechTips .
  12. yay! Another manufacturer who acknowledges the benefits of a front facing speaker! In all honesty I'm not a fan of Dbrand's phone skins (just purely based on aesthetics - never tried them before, so can't speak for the quality of materials etc.) BUT their PS4 skin looks awesomeeee.
  13. best thing about it is obviously the collection of autographs on the bottom of it Apart from that, that red line (and red backlit keyboard) is pretty slick. and if that doesn't count...then the aluminum construction of it - looks killer for something of this product range/category (i.e. something that is not ultra thin & light focused like the Razer Blade).
