  1. I tried the previous driver at the time it started happening and it still shut down. The card was working when the previous driver was the most up to date one. Not sure I would be comfortable flashing the bios but who knows. I forgot to mention that when i turned off my surge protection on my mobo in the bios (that's what triggers the shutdown) the fans on presumably my gpu went to what seemed like 100% and the screen went black on my monitor. I say presumably because I turned the pc off as quickly as possible when i knew something was wrong. That's when i had suspicions that the problem might not be my psu because it should of shut itself off if it detected an issue with power discrepancies. I just have a feeling that there is something I'm missing because I don't really see anyone else with this specific issue nor does it feel like something a gpu would do when it truly fails.
  2. I had issues a few weeks ago with my PC turning off as soon as I opened a demanding game. A overwhelming majority on forums and people who have experienced similar issues pointed to my psu being the underlying cause. Long story short I ordered a new seasonic 650w focus gold psu and the same exact thing happened. I then in turn borrowed a founders gtx 770 my friend had and everything functioned normally under load. It's been a week with the 770 and no problems this far. The GPU now that is in question is my 980ti. I've looked at dozens of forum posts and all them talk about the psu being the issue for a PC shutting down and rebooting for the most part. I've isolated it to my 980ti but I dont know if there is more at play in my current situation. I guess what I'm asking is if there is anything else I can do to absolutely guarantee that my 980ti needs replacing. It functions at around 50% utilization at most. Heat is a none issue as it shuts down my PC almost as soon as a game is opened.
  3. Bump... I did a HWLog up until the shutdown and i didn't notice any change in values. The voltages and temperatures all seemed within their range unless it doesn't count the exact time the pc shuts off. I'm not too familiar with logging hardware. I also talked to a local computer shop who are almost never helpful and he said it was probably a gpu or motherboard issue and that when psu's fail they system doesn't boot. I took that with a grain of salt because they aren't the wisest every time i go there but so many people seem to point to the psu being the issue so I have no idea. I just have a feeling that it's not the psu for whatever reason and worried about ordering one only to find out that it isn't the issue. It's not easy to ship something back where I live nor to i have a lot of money to devote to this atm. Any more information on where I can go with this would be great as I'm a little worried... Here is the log file of the readings from HWLog. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/13SQt5WQ9ha_mc2IETOxlJNK8z0P8cqN0g8O80k7DpuU/edit?usp=sharing
  4. I've tried a few games and it would appear that some work as long it GPU utilization is low. I've had it up to 50% usage and it seemed to have worked correctly. Haven't really tested just the CPU but I don't want to keep triggering the shutdown... Intensive games don't even let me change settings before the pc turns off. I could change settings manually but don't feel it's worth it. It even shutdowns after I loaded the same game and it tries to auto apply display settings but it never is able to get past that. Update: I tried disabling the Asus Surge Protection in the bios on my motherboard since many people said it was finicky sometimes. Instead of my pc shutting down the screen went gray and the fans went crazy so I quickly held the power button to force shutdown. I'm curious as to what a psu normally does when it triggers its own surge protection features since mine does indeed have safety for that. I would think it simply turns off the computer and not make it go all rampant? Could it be a GPU issue if that's the case cause I'm really hoping not....
  5. I was gaming tonight and my computer ended up shutting down as if there was a surge in the power. When it powers back on my motherboard bios says a surge was detected and it shut down the computer. I can recreate the surge anytime when I open an intensive game or benchmark but the computer works just fine browsing the internet and doing normal things. I'm guessing something is going on with the power supply which is a EVGA 650W G2. It is a good psu from my understanding but i guess anything can happen. Any advice on what I should try to do or things i could potentially check to see what is going on? Everything appears to be correct in HWMonitor but I'm not entirely sure. My system is plugged into a good surge protector as well.
