  1. Hi guys! I moved my desktop PC to a different location in the apartment. There is wall housing/pipe there. It's currently empty. I wanted to push an Ethernet cable (cat 5e) so that i can directly plug-in the PC. Don't laugh, but i tried to push the cable (a regular 25m one) through, as-is. That obviously did not work (gave it a shot). So as I understand it, I need to remove the head of the cable, and then try again? Or are we talking about me needing to buy a completely different cable (which is meant to be pushed through walls)? Trying to keep costs down as much as I can. What tool do I need to remove the head and then rebuild it after words? Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks so much!
  2. Hi everyone. Anyone might be able to tell me why this is? Never had this issue before. Just changed the monitor (not the PC itself) and it will always turn off when windows tells it to "turn off". I mean TOTAL TURN OFF, and it won't wake up again. I need to power it from its power button to make it turn on again. Thank you for the advice!
  3. Hi everyone. Linux has this neat visual of the data transfer rate on the taskbar. Does Windows 10 have such a tool? Anyone knows of such a tool? Thx so much!
  4. So, will this work on my pc? I am getting tired of the wired headphones and would love to move around the house while listening. Can anyone recommend a good-enough (not looking to spend much) adapter? I was looking on AliExpress and i see they are as low as $4 for BT5, which is quite cheap. But who knows if they will even work and are decent enough to play a solid 2 hour podcast?! Thanks for the advice!
  5. so, will this case work for me? CoolerMaster MasterCase H100 ATX Mini ITX Black Case thx to everyone EDIT: https://www.coolermaster.com/catalog/cases/mini-itx/mastercase-h100/
  6. Hi. Sorry about the silly question, but my mobo specs says mATX. Trying to buy a case for it, and looking for the smallest possible one. Thx!!! Mobo is https://www.asus.com/Motherboards/H110M-A-M-2/specifications/
  7. Hi. These Corona days makes U do things. I would like to stretch an Eth cable (Cat 5 / 5e) for about 50 meters. Will I lost speed? Thanks so much!!! Stay healthy!
  8. Thx so much!!! Ok so I am seeing this. Didn't know about this. But yes, it's not very good. It also requires multiple clicks. Linux (specifically, Manjaro with i think XFCE) has such a nice "widget" where it actually shows u the desktops. Thx for the answer though. I do appreciate it!
  9. Thank you! No. Win 10 has multiple desktops. Virtual desktops, that is. To move between them, you Ctrl-Win-(right or left arrows). The problem is there's no way of knowing which desktop you are on, and U can't switch using the mouse. I hope I am being clear. Thx again! EDIT: CTRL WIN (not crtl alt)
  10. Hi everyone. Started using different Desktops quite often. But unlike Linux, there's no indicator and I can't switch via click of a mouse button. Anyone knows of a third-party app maybe that does this? Thanks so much!
  11. Wow! Thank you so much! Optional question: is it from a secure source? Thx again for the help! PS - happen to know of something similar for CPU load?
  12. Hi. New to Mac. I got a 2013 Macbook Pro for school. I would like to see the temp of the cpu in the menu bar. something basic, simple, and free. anyone knows of such app? I am running High Sierra. Thanks so much!
  13. Hi. Sorry I am a bit struggling with the terms here. I would like to know if there's an option to see the speed/bandwidth coming in/going out of each device on my home network. Is this possible? There are about 4 PCs and 4 iPhones, as well as a few other devices. Thanks!!!
  14. That's very helpful thank you so much. That being said, F! I guess I can't use it.
  15. Hi. So I am downgrading a PC from the i3 8100 to the G4400. They are both of the same socket (I hope!). After putting the G4400 into the Mobo, applying new paste, making sure everything is correct, the PC won't start. The fan will turn for a split second, but will die. Any advice? Thanks so much
  16. Never knew about this tool. Very cool! Is it officially by MSFT? Thanks for sharing.
  17. Thx for that great and informative reply!!! I agree about the selling of data vs malware. I guess malware could be interpreted loosly. In any case, I am less concerned about my data than I am about Zoom leaving a potential large penetration surface on my device than prior to installing it. If that makes sense. Thx again
  18. So, I have went down a wormhole and found out that ZOOM is somewhat of a malware. I have uninstalled it from my PC but want to make sure it's eliminated and its ports are closed (if that makes sense). Anyone has an idea about this? Something extra needed post-regular uninstall from Windows? I really (really!) don't trust that software anymore. (you can google it if you'd like) Thanks so much!
  19. Thx. Been trying to put my finger on this as well. Perhaps I should try a slightly faster distro (Manjaro XFCE). I was asking myself if I am making the mistake of comparing smoothness/animations with speed. Perhaps there's that as well. I can say (after using for a bit) that the official Ubuntu distro is for sure slower than anything else (Windows for sure but also Manjaro). My PC has no issue whatsoever with speed when it comes to Windows 10 regular use, so this isn't about having a slow PC, more I guess about refinement of the Ubuntu OS (it's the slowest I have tested). I am now trying out Manjaro and will report on that one as well once I make sure it's not a placebo affect/animation fallacy. Windows 10 has become quite refined and perhaps this contributes to the speediness of the system (everything flows). Reminds me a bit of the Android vs iOS issue - where in iOS everything seems to flow nicely (well, at least it used when I had it back in the day). PS (for anyone still reading) - so to conclude regarding the Drivers, a built in gpu (intel) does NOT require downloading and installing drivers, right?
  20. Thank you, but I tend to leave my PC and sometimes not come back to it. I prefer it would go to sleep mode at those times (i work mostly with google docs for school reasons, and I often will have dozens of tabs with highlights open. I really like to get back to where I left things). Although your suggestion would work, I would still be curious as to why this is happening.
