  1. The Athlon 3000G goes for $66 and change on Walmart and Newegg, so it's cheaper than the A10 9700 as well. Even if the A10 is better, I might just opt for the 3000G because it saves my dad more money and can still get the job done.
  2. The used options off Ebay all still require bidding for 5+ days and the one used offer on Amazon is going for $158, crazily enough. Someone suggested getting the Athlon 3000G, and I can order one from a Walmart to be delivered by this Friday, so I'm most likely going to take that offer. It should be more than enough for basic everyday uses.
  3. The pricing isn't that close anymore. Not only is the Ryzen 3 3200G $100 instead of the $87 I bought it at, it's also out of stock on Amazon (until August 11th, Newegg and Micro Center. My dad is gonna use this PC for his work too and I had intended for it to be built by last Tuesday, so I'm not too keen on waiting until August 7th for the currently delayed CPU to ship, or until August 11th to even re-order it. The Ryzen 3 2200G is even more expensive on Amazon and Newegg from what I'm seeing right now, but I just did a basic search. And by 3000G, did you mean the Athlon 3000G, I can't find anything listed as a Ryzen 3 3000G.
  4. I'm building my dad an affordable office PC, and I've gotten all the components besides the CPU. My dad is only using this PC for office purposes; that includes things like Microsoft Office, third-party programs to punch in numbers (he deals with finance) and Google Chrome. I ordered the Ryzen 3 3200G off Amazon on June 24th and it was set to deliver in 4 days, however they've pushed it back twice now and are asking for my approval yet again to have it delivered by August 7th; I've given up on it at this point. I was originally pairing the Ryzen 3 3200G with a MSI B450M PRO-M2 MAX Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard and a 400W power supply. However now that I've chosen to find another CPU - and the prices of CPU have gone up since then (I'm trying to stay within the $75-90 CPU range I was initially within) - I've been thinking of getting the AMD Athlon 220GE. It goes for $80 on Amazon, which is only $7 cheaper than the Ryzen 3 3200G when I bought it - so it's in a similar ballpark regarding pricing. Does anyone know if there is a better alternative that could work with the motherboard I've already received?
  5. By office use, I meant Microsoft Office (primarily Word, Excel). I don't think my dad uses an programs that are demanding, as his work revolves around helping people financially. So most likely, he's utilizing Chrome (or another browser) and Microsoft Office most of the time. I was thinking I might get a small SSD just to download the OS, but I'm pretty sure my dad plans to simply move his HDD from the old setup to this one. Although if this build is ideal as it is, I might actually go for a larger SSD altogether since it's barely $400.
  6. Sorry, the CPU does have an output, I forgot to add the G at the end when typing it out. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07STGHZK8?linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1&tag=linus21-20 I'd also rather use a traditional PC setup instead of a barebone because I get a strong feeling my dad would feel very uncomfortable using such a small system as a PC.
  7. My bad, it does have an output, I just forgot to add the G when I wrote out the name. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07STGHZK8?linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1&tag=linus21-20
  8. Budget (including currency): $400-500 USD Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Purely office-related work Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): My dad has an old PC, so I'm thinking perhaps we won't need to buy a new hard drive or RAM; however I don't know how much RAM he has in his old PC and I've read contrasting answers on whether the two components can slow down with age. This is what I'm currently thinking: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 3200G 3.6 GHz Quad-Core Processor Motherboard: MSI Pro B450M Pro-M2 Max Micro ATX Ram: Team T-Force 2x8 GB DDR4 3000 Storage: (if needed) Seagate Barracuda 2TB HDD Power Supply: EVGA 400W Chassis: Rosewill Black Gaming ATX Mid Tower Computer Case Links: CPU: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07STGHZK8?tag=pcpapi-20&linkCode=ogi&th=1&psc=1 Motherboard: https://www.newegg.com/msi-b450m-pro-m2-max/p/N82E16813144271?Description=MSI B450&cm_re=MSI_B450-_-13-144-271-_-Product Ram: https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820331360 Storage: https://www.newegg.com/seagate-barracuda-st2000dm008-2tb/p/N82E16822184773?Description=hard drive 2Tb&cm_re=hard_drive_2Tb-_-22-184-773-_-Product&quicklink=true Power Supply: https://www.amazon.com/EVGA-Warranty-Power-Supply-100-N1-0550-L1/dp/B00LV8TZAG/ref=sr_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=PSU%2B500%2BWatt&qid=1593048811&s=electronics&sr=1-17&th=1 Chassis: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811147153?Item=N82E16811147153 I don't know if the Micro ATX will be an issue, but pcpartpicker.com says there is no compatibility issue between this motherboard and the cpu. I was thinking that if the micro is a problem, I could go with the B450 Gaming Plus option: https://www.newegg.com/msi-b450-gaming-plus-max/p/N82E16813144264 Current price of this list is about $395.92 and that is assuming I purchase a new hard drive. I'm also concerned that the 400W supply might not be enough. Any revisions or even alternative builds will be very appreciated, I'm just trying to find the most bang for the buck PC for my dad. If a slight increase in price (at most $500) means I can opt for a dedicated graphics card and a better set up, that would be awesome too.
  9. A friend is asking for a gaming laptop that's less than or equal to $700 and can run Overwatch. I'm just starting to get into computers, but from what I know - that's not too easy to find for a laptop. These are the ones I've been looking into right now: https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834235081?item=N82E16834235081&source=region&nm_mc=knc-googleadwords-pc&cm_mmc=knc-googleadwords-pc-_-pla-_-gaming+laptops-_-N82E16834235081&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI5r77qOnx4wIVDp-fCh3TkgReEAQYASABEgJ12fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834235236?reviews=all https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Gaming-i5-7300HQ-GeForce-AN515-51-55WL/dp/B074Q54GSR https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07C715KNT/ref=psdc_13896615011_t1_B074Q54GSR Aside from their gaming capability, I've read that the Asus 504's have a dim screen and I honestly feel like that the front looks pretty tacky. Friend asked for a decent battery life and weight is always something to keep in mind, but I'm sure there is a higher priority on price - to - gaming capability. Any thoughts or recommendations?
  10. I ended up just loosening the screw that holds the card in place. It makes the card drop down slightly and then I screwed it in a little more while holding it in place. That seemed to do the trick lol
  11. I'm probably going to give that a shot tonight then lol. If I still hear contact, then I'll probably just buy a riser cable. I found a pretty cheap one right here. https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B0067WZH2Q/ref=dp_olp_new_mbc?ie=UTF8&condition=new Correct me if I'm wrong, but the other end of this riser cable is supposed to connect to my power supply right? I just use a SATA cable correct? This is my first pc build so there's a lot I still don't know.
  12. What did you use as a spacer? It sounds like it's barely skimming the gpu fan, so anything small would work. I was thinking of laying a piece of cardboard flat on top of the wireless card, since they're remotely thin but still resist compression to a certain extent.
  13. I was thinking about that too. My only concern was about damaging the ports or the wireless card. Whatever I used a spacer would probably cause the wireless card bend downwards slightly. I was wondering what the chances were of that minute bend damaging the port or the wireless card. Do you think it's worth just getting a pcie riser cable, or just trying to use something small as a spacer?
  14. So I moved the wireless card down just now, but there’s a problem. This gpu is so goddamn big that the bottom of the wireless card ( which is facing up) is skimming the gpu’s fan (which is facing down). The fan still runs, but clearly it’s still a problem. Even though they’re barely skimming, it’s close enough that you hear the ticking sound you’d hear if you held something against an actual fan. Any advice?
  15. You’re a life saver. I’m new to pc building so I’ve been watching and mirroring everything the videos do. I had no clue I could just do that. You saved me a lot of stress and extra work lol. Appreciate it!
  16. Hey guys, I’m building a budget pc build and I need to install a wireless card. Problem is that the gpu I bought, a PowerColor Red Dragon Rx 570, takes up two slots. Since the PCIE slot for my wireless card is directly underneath the PCIE 16, I can’t fit both in. I’ve attached a photo showing what I mean. Even if I wanted to, I can’t 570 in the PCIEX4 because it’s still too big. Any recommendations for another GPU that’s comparable and takes up one slot? I’m running a Ryzen 5 1600 processor
  17. Hey guys, I ordered a case from DIY PC, it’s their Model X White RGB Case. The case came scratched, but I didn’t notice until a week later when I built the pc and took a closer look at the whole setup. I don’t know what the material of the front panel is so I don’t want to just get any scratch remover. I’ve attached a picture along with this post. Any recommendations or advice?
  18. I'm building my first pc soon, and I plan to run an ethernet cable since the wifi connection in my room is already pretty weak. (the router is on the first floor in the front of the house and my room is on the second floor in the back) My only problem is trying to wire the cable through the floors because directly above the router on the second floor is a heater, so I don't know if I should actually run the cable directly up; nor do I want to try and run the cable through the first floor directly under my room (too much stuff in the way). A lot of the articles I'm reading is saying that I need to run outdoor cables into the ground, 6-8 inches below soil. I was hoping to just run the cable outside and along walls towards my room and then drill a hole into my room from outside. Is the exposure to heat going to be a major problem like I'm reading online? Exposure to sunlight isn't a major issue because there is an overhang around the house in between the first and second floor outdoors (so that we could install lights for outside) and I was hoping to run the cables underneath the overhang. It does however, get hot in the summer; the temperature can go as high as the mid-to-high 90's sometimes here in Long Island. And if the heat IS a major problem, what can I do to solve that problem?
  19. Thanks for the advice, the Micro Center is pretty close and I've been there before, I just never knew they had their own deals (you learn something new every day) The SSD is got is pretty cheap, but that's because I only planned on using the SSD for Windows, so I figured 120 GB was more than enough. I may invest in a better SSD since this CPU+Motherboard deal drops my cost to essentially $510. Appreciate your help man.
  20. As someone who isn't knowledgeable on computers, I decided to get my build off of Bitwit's videos. He made a $500 budget "Console Killer" build a while back that I'm going to follow: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3 2200G Processor with Radeon Vega 8 Graphics https://www.amazon.com/dp/B079D3DBNM/?coliid=I307BAVYKOJU3X&colid=14UD8Y1I60XR7&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it GPU: PowerColor RED DRAGON Radeon RX 570 4GB https://www.newegg.com/powercolor-radeon-rx-570-axrx-570-4gbd5-3dhd-oc/p/N82E16814131717?Item=N82E16814131717 Motherboard: ASRock MicroATX Motherboard (B450M-HDV) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FVKWLQK/?coliid=I2BGESMSL7Z9EA&colid=14UD8Y1I60XR7&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it Ram: Team T-Force Night Hawk 16GB (2 x 8GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM 3200 (PC4 25600) https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820331029?Item=N82E16820331029 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 7200 RPM https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16822179010?Item=N82E16822179010 SSD: Kingston A400 2.5" 120 GB https://www.newegg.com/kingston-a400-120gb/p/N82E16820242399?Item=N82E16820242399 Case: https://www.newegg.com/p/1W8-006X-00005?Item=1W8-006X-00005 Power Supply: Corsiar CX Series 450W 80 Plus Bronze Certified https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MTZ96RU/?coliid=I3GTU7EVFW70SH&colid=14UD8Y1I60XR7&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it I'm not a serious gamer on pc, but I want to be able to play games like Apex, Destiny and other online MMORPGS at the best quality possible with this budget. The reason I don't want to go too far past $500 is because I still need to buy Windows 10 (Should I really be trusting the offers for $30 off third-party sites? The retail $140 is expensive as hell) keyboard/mouse, a monitor and at least 30 ft of ethernet cable that can withstand the outdoors if I don't want to get a decent Wifi card that can reach my room upstairs. Is there anything I can downgrade slightly to get closer to a $500 build from the current $535 while not having to sacrifice too much? *Edit: Thanks for all the responses guys, I really appreciate your input!
  21. https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Inspiron-Desktop-Processor-Graphics/dp/B07Q3G3B67/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=Dell+Inspiron+Gaming+PC+AMD+Ryzen&qid=1560729665&s=electronics&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&sr=1-3 CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700 8-core Processor at 4.1 GHz GPU: AMD Radeon RX 580 4GB GDDR5 Ram: 16 GB (2x8) DDR4 at 2400 MHz Storage: 1 TB HDD 7200 RPM Sata 6 GB/s OS: Windows 10 Power supply: 460 Watt Comes with a cheap keyboard and mouse (Dell MS116 Wired Mouse Black ; Dell KB216 Wired Keyboard English Black) I'm probably going to just replace the power supply for something that's 500+ Watt, but what I'm more focused on is the presence of Windows 10. I'm not tech-savvy or knowledgeable about desktops, but I get that you can generally build custom pc's for cheaper in comparison to pre-builts. But windows 10 cost $140 on its own, meaning the hardware here comes out to a cost of $460. Can you really price-match with a custom build if you also have to purchase windows 10?
  22. Thanks a lot, I appreciate all the advice you guys have been giving me.
  23. Thanks for the advice and info. Everyone else is saying to get the former too, so I’m going to purchase that one.
  24. Thanks for the input! It seems like there’s no debate, so I’m probably going to go with that one.
