  1. If I was in the market for a travel laptop, i'd personally look for 13-15 inch models as smaller machines are easy to carry around, weights less and fits in most backpacks/sleeves. Since the screen size is measured diagonally, i'd say there isn't much of an advantage going from 15 inch to 17 inch. if the screen space is important you can mess around with windows dpi settings for slightly more vertical and horizontal workspace. Well in that case, gram 17 isn't a bad choice. There are some health and safety concerns with that laptop as the chassis is mostly made out of magnesium alloy material and lg themselves suggest users to wash hands after using it for long. This is mentioned in the safety guide booklet thingy that comes with the machine but no one reads.
  2. Does is has to be 17 inch? As in youtube/netflix and word documents? Look for decent keyboard, display and batterylife (Lenovo thinkpads) Sort of. i5 and 8gb would do. You could find decent ultrabooks like xps 13 for under 1000 usd. No way. It doesn't matter if you spend 1.5k or 15k, no hardware would last that long. I'd say maximum 2-3 years. I mean the machine may last that long depending on how she's planning to use it but hardware will be obsolete. Most manufacturers drop driver support after 3/4 years since launch. There are number of different configurations from i5s to i7s and various ssd capacities depending on the region. If you are shopping on ebay, first look if the seller is local or overseas as you might end up paying quite alot for shipping.
  3. Lenovo V330-14ARR (81B1001EUK) 14" Laptop AMD Ryzen 5 2500U 2.0GHz / 3.6GHz Turbo Quad Core Processor, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, Full HD Display, Windows 10 This system does NOT have a touchscreen. Its hard to find well spec'd machine with touchscreen for that price.
  4. Most likely due to the windows updated the wireless driver shipped with the machine to generic version delivered via windows updates. You might want to uninstall the current wireless driver from device manager, download the official drivers from either asus or intel/killer (depending on what wireless module it has) and restart the machine. Don't forget to disable automatic driver updates through windows updates within this pc > properties window. If the driver reinstallation didn't fix the issue, it could possibly be either faulty wireless module or antennas. In that case you can either find replacement wireless module yourself (go for intel) and put it in or send the machine back for a replacement unit. Alternatively you can try resetting windows. (This might delete data stored in C drive, make sure you backup anything important)
  5. HP 2019 14" Laptop - Intel Core i3 - 8GB Memory - 128GB Solid State Drive - Ash Silver Keyboard Frame (14-CF0014DX) If you don't mind slightly bigger screen (15.6") this laptop is much better allrounder. Acer Aspire E 15, 15.6" Full HD and WD Blue 3D NAND 250GB PC SSD - SATA III 6 Gb/s M.2 2280 Solid State Drive
  6. New - 8300h + gtx 1050 + 8gb + 1tb ACER Nitro 5 Dell G3 15 3000 ASUS FX504 HP Pavilion 15 Used - gtx 1050ti/1060 Acer Predator Helios 300 Dell G5 5587 Lenovo Y720 ALIENWARE 13 R3
  7. Gigabyte Aero 15 - 94wh battery / 2kg-ish / black MSI P65 - 82wh battery / 1.9kg / silver, closest thing to mbp Zephyrus M GU502 - 76wh battery / 1.9kg / black Zephyrus S GX502 - 76wh battery / 2kg / black Razer Blade 15 Advanced - 80wh battery / 2.1kg / black MSI PS63 - 82wh battery / 1.6kg / black [NOTE: cpu in this is 25w ulv whiskey lake chip compared to 45w coffee lake/r in others]
  8. Desktop replacement laptops and sub 1000usd msrp do not go well together. The cheapest laptops from major brands with tb3 that i can think of is xps 13 or ideapad 730s, both of which may cost over $800. I was able to find 730s on ebay from us seller for just over $800 ($815 iirc) and refurbished previous gen xps 13 qhd for sub $800 on newegg. You might want to look into specifications, particularly how many pcie lanes are allocated to thunderbolt as that might affect egpu performance. If I were in your position, I'd consider selling both lenovo laptop and asrock desktop and going for thin and light notebook with decent gpu (2060 or higher) that way you get the best of both worlds.
  9. Do you like the current asus zephyrus lineup? The GU502 ticks most of the boxes. You have screen options of either 144 or 240hz, weights around 1.9kg, has reliable wifi card (intel), cfl-h i7/16g/2060, per-key backlit keyboard and 76wh battery for $1899. There is another model based on zen2 mobile cpu which costs around $1200 and weights 2.1kg if you're on tighter budget. Next up is gigabyte aero 15 classic. Starting at $1700ish for the i7 and 1660ti model with 144hz color accurate display along with full size individually lit keyboard with numpad. Great port selection, full size/usb 3 based sd card slot, 90wh battery and looks even more subtle compared to zephyrus and weights around same. Lastly you've got the razer blade. or MSI gs65. notebookcheck has search page where you can select specs and sort by price/weight or ratings. Hope that helps. ? *edit* neither asus or gigabyte laptops i mentioned does not have tb3 I believe. however msi and razer models has. Here's a great list of tb3 enabled laptops and 2060 laptops.
  10. Sorry about that. I did edit the post couple minutes later.
  11. Sri Lanka. Around 200k lkr (~1000$) Lighter the better. Anything between 13-16 inches, Color accuracy isn't important. Planning to upgrade ram to 16g down the line, so yes. Thanks for the quick reply
  12. Title. *Edit* I prefer kabylake-r/whiskey lake cpu with 8gb of ram and at least 256gb ssd. Screen: 1080p matte Touchpad: windows drivers/separate left-right buttons (not a must) Keyboard: backlit keys/numpad (not a must) Windows hello: fingerprint reader Thanks.
