Hassan170 reacted to ImWilly in Help with planning New Build
Well, since you're in AM4 platform, I believe you don't need a lot of upgrade for your setup
At best I can recommend, is to upgrade both CPU and GPU, and if you're willing to spare a bit more, you can buy some great and cheap CPU cooler such ThermalRight Peerless Assassin.
The new CPU comes with stock cooler, but since by conversion it seems to have spare budget, an additional $34 won't hurt at all
P.S.
Despite of unknown brand of PSU, could you check the wattage capacity?
It shouldn't be an issue since it's not a power hungry system, but I just want to make sure
Total estimate cost: $473 or MYR2200
PCPartPicker Part List
CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor ($169.00 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler ($33.90 @ Amazon) (OPTIONAL)
Video Card: Sapphire PULSE Radeon RX 7600 8 GB Video Card ($269.99 @ Amazon)
Total: $472.89
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available

Just upgrade CPU to 5600 and get a last get GPU like 5700XT or equivalent. Will be a substantial jump in performance from where you're at now.

Hassan170 reacted to TatamiMatt in Advice on GPU upgrade
These should give you a decent handle on performance difference but id recommend doing more similar research of your own
Id reckon these 2 are the highest performing of the bunch, so heres a direct comparison

Hassan170 got a reaction from TatamiMatt in Advice on GPU upgrade
Ya, the 105 is for the GPU strictly, he plans on upgrading the rest of the build over time.
Hmmm, I'll try and keep an eye out for whichever is in budget, thanks for the tip

Hassan170 reacted to LePetitPrince in Microsoft fixes the Teams app on Windows 11
I am still struggling with the fact that they made "new teams" and updated the "old teams" but left the "old teams" installed as separate application where, whenever I need to run the Teams, it first turns on the "old teams" asking me if I want to use "new teams". But whenever I search for "Teams" in Windows search, it opens the "old teams" all over again. It's unnecessary annoying mess.
The worst is, the in-browser version works way better and smoother.

Summary
The built in Microsoft Teams app in Windows 11 will now support work/school accounts, you will not need to have 2 different Teams apps anymore.

My thoughts
Out of all the things wrong with Win11 when it came out, the Teams app was probably my biggest gripe.
For the simple reason being that there was absolutely no F***ING reason why the built in teams couldn't do work/school accounts.
To top it off, it took 3 years to make a simple quality of life improvement like this.

DDU=Display Driver Uninstaller. Download the latest drivers straight off AMD's site first, then go into Safe Mode without networking, then run DDU, then after the PC restarts, run the AMD driver installer. Also make sure that Windows doesn't automatically install drivers by choosing the option in DDU.

Summary
While Dolphin, an open-source emulator of GameCube and Wii games, was intended to be released on Steam later this year, Nintendo issued a DMCA take-down against Valve.

My thoughts
I'm honestly sure that if Nintendo attempts to get rid of Dolphin, then there are at least two cases where Sony tried to kill emulation two decades ago but failed. If Nintendo succeeds though, then this could mean the end of emulation as we know it.

Update: I realaized from edge i was tryna download it to my C Drive which has about 50GB free which is why it craps out
having switched the download to an empty 500GB drive however, doesn't really help as it too craps out after a while
trying to manually transfer the zip file from Drive Desktop to the target folder also doesn't work.
I'm going to try unzipping it in drive and transferring as such

Hassan170 reacted to Commodus in EU Warns Apple About Limiting Speeds of Uncertified USB-C Cables for iPhones
I appreciate the EU doing this, and I don't like the thought of Apple trying to recreate the Lightning revenue stream by requiring certified cables for full performance.
At the same time, I don't like that some folks are both taking the rumour as absolute fact and treating Apple like some Snidely Whiplash-style villain. We won't know how Apple handles USB-C iPhones until the iPhone 15 line arrives, and if anything we have evidence that Apple won't be so restrictive (see how most modern iPads have high-speed USB-C). I'm not ruling out some MFi chicanery, but I don't want to presume Apple will do it or that it's some horrific monster if it does. It's a company. It's out to make money. And if the EU clamps down after the fact, I'm fine with it.

Hassan170 reacted to DANK_AS_gay in Apple confirms intention to comply with EU USB-C Charging Legislation
Dammit Apple, you should have updated lightning to be competitive, I don't want to have to have a less durable port in my device because you are so unbelievably slow to update from USB 2.0, and to increase charging limits. From either perspective, EU shouldn't have done this, or the EU should have, IT'S APPLE'S FAULT. They weren't competitive. If Lightning was an actual competitor, this discussion wouldn't need to be had. If think different means think worse, I would have purchased a Samsung with an Exynos chip.

Hassan170 got a reaction from soldier_ph in Intel Rebranding "Core i" Brand to "Core Ultra"
I kind of like this naming scheme, it would be so much easier to identify and understand where it stands in the product stack. Would wok well for cross-gen comparisons as well. maybe instead of wholly renaming it, make it the background colour of each tier on the sticker.
Honestly, half the reason I own a Ryzen PC is that it's SO much simpler to navigate the product stack, especially across generations. It's not that Intel makes bad chips (previous gens) or that it runs as hot as the sun and needs a Dyson Sphere Cooler, but I can't be arsed to have to look up the SKU EVERY DAMN TIME I WANT TO KNOW MANY CORES AND THREADS IT HAS
don't forget that they get paid $who-knows-how-many-Gs
honestly, they could have gone with something a bit more unique or understandable

Hassan170 reacted to tikker in India Bans Open Source Messaging Apps. FOSS Community responds with "Go ahead and try!"
From the title I thought this was a blanket ban on open source messaging apps, but it seems to be "just" a ban of many individual apps. Maybe that part of the title should be changed?

Hassan170 reacted to The Angry Squid in India Bans Open Source Messaging Apps. FOSS Community responds with "Go ahead and try!"
Summary
The Indian government has banned 14 messaging apps claiming that it is on the grounds of "national security".
These apps were banned due to the "risk of terrorism in the region of Jammu and Kashmir – a majority Muslim territory administered by India but also claimed by Pakistan. India accuses Pakistan of backing independence activists in the region – and imposed years-long connectivity restrictions that meant only 2G services were available – on the grounds that it made it harder for separatists to organize."
The most interesting part of this ban is the recent developments that the Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS ) community have made to re-enable the apps in response to the ban. Efforts have been made "to build mesh networks out of Android devices during internet outages – so that messages can continue to flow even if the internet is down". The developers explained that this works by: "When an Android device thinks that its internet connection doesn’t work, either due to a captive portal or due to certain Google domains being unreachable, apps on the device are still able to connect to IP addresses that remain reachable, and the device can still resolve DNS queries for other domains, even though various parts of the UI indicate that the system considers the Wi-Fi connection to be offline, the system does not seem to block any traffic as a result of this assessment."
The apps blocked include: Element, Wickrme, Mediafire, Briar, BChat, Nandbox, Conion, IMO and Zangi. Several of these messaging apps are open source.
Quotes
My thoughts
I think this topic can be split into two very interesting discussions. First of all, the fact that Governments feel that they can control what apps their citizens have access to. Not only that, they can restrict entire areas with a population of 14 million people (Roughtly 1/2 of the entire of Canada's population) with 2G internet. The UN declared that "the intentional disruption of internet access by governments" should be condemned, but this seems to be ignored by some nations.
The other very interesting area is the developments that the FOSS community have made so quickly to counteract this block. Likely, because blocking these apps can have many adverse effects like interrupting the Emergency Services. This is particularly relevant in a country like India where "India has faced natural disaster every day in the last nine months: Report. Faced with disaster almost every day so far this year. From January 1 to September 30, 2022, out of 273 days, 242 days have faced natural calamities in the country" ~ Times of India.

Hassan170 reacted to filpo in The Human Brain Project Creates an AI That Runs On a Simulated Human Brain, Down to the Individual Neurons
SPOILERS TO READY PLAYER TWO BOOK:
whenever we create a new AI though we always think that it will try to destroy us or take us down. That's not very empathetic. This line in the book 'Ready Player Two' Said by Anorak when they try to negotiate with him is put nicely - '"Whenever your futurists envision the advent of artificial intelligence, their predictions invariably end with humanity attempting to destroy its unholy AI creation before it can destroy them. Why do you think that is?"' And Parzival (AKA Wade) replies '"Because the ungrateful AI always seems to decide that humans are inferior and need to be eliminated'"
Conclusion - If we make AI that can have emotions and have a brain like ours (essentially a copy of Halliday's brain is what Anorak had) then we have to trust them and feel equal to them. Unless we do this, I feel that we would struggle to coexist
