  1. I did the motherboard paperclip test and the PSU started. Then I went plug by plug until I realized my error... I had a molex cable from the old PSU connected. Thankfully the PSU decided to shut off instead of breaking so I replaced the cable and now everything seems to be working fine. Thanks to all!
  2. I'll give it a try when I get back to it. I had this PSU in another case before moving it over, worked fine there so I doubt it's the PSU, but it could be a short. Hope so rather than a dead mobo...
  3. I just finished upgrading my 6 year old rig (new everything except case) and when I go to turn it on, the fan on the PSU clicks on and does half a spin and then off. No lights on the motherboard, nothing. Tried so far: Used QFlash Plush to upgrade the BIOS, that worked as expected, QFlash light blinking and all. Re-seat the memory (and removing one stick and trying). Disconnect the GPU power to see if it shows an error. Check the power cables on the motherboard and PSU. Spec: i9 13900K GeForce 4070Ti Corsair 32GB DDR5 2x16GB 6000MHz Vengeance CL36 Seasonic Focus 850W Gold+ Gigabyte Z790 Gaming X AX motherboard. I did check the pins on the board before placing the CPU in, made sure nothing was bent out of shape. One thing that I suspect. The motherboard has two 12V connectors but I only have one plugged in (can't find the second 4+4 pin cable...). From what I've read, that shouldn't be strictly needed but I am not sure. Help :*(
  4. This is the USB-C AC power port. However, after reading your comment I checked out the spec ant realized that what I thought was only the dock connector is actually a dock connector and along side it a USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 port. One of the monitors has a USB-C plug, tried that, worked immediately. This means an extra cable, but it works! The TB3 plug did the trick. Thanks
  5. Setup: I have two monitors connected to a Lenovo T490 computer (Windows 11), which has 1 HDMI port and 1 USB-C port. One monitor connected to the HDMI port and the other through a USB-C hub which has an HDMI plug on it. This setup only works after a lot of fiddling. Problem description: If I just plug in both monitors, it defaults to the one connected to the USB-C port and the other remains blank. If I remove the one from the USB-C, the other comes on. This turns into a game of "seduce the ports" by plugging both in/out until magically they decide to both work. This can take a ridiculous amount of tries and time but always works eventually. I have tried to unplug it in different sequences and that doesn't seem to be the issue, something with timing + sequence? Idk. What I've tried: Updated everything Lenovo offers an update on for this machine (BIOS and Intel Graphics included) and yet this remains the same. Updated Windows as well. Used a different USB-C hub from another brand, same result.
  6. Fair enough. I will definitively be looking into those. Especially after the LTT video they made about boutique shops vs. retailers. However I live in acountry where there are none so I'd have to get them when I arrive at the university. This will be a fun logistical puzzle to solve! Thanks for the tip.
  7. Hadn't looked at the MSI computers, they look good. The 8 hr battery (realistically maybe 5?) is also a plus! Any specific reason you mention the custom built ones instead of just the stock ones?
  8. I had one of the older ROG laptops previously, the beast kind. This one would definitively be a better option than that. I would like a bit longer battery life, but the specs are nice on the ASUS machines.
  9. Hi everyone! Due to poor eyesight I've always had to have the larger 17" display on my laptops (the day fold-able 24" OLED becomes a thing on laptops will be a great day). That has been fine by me since those computers are often powerhouses so I can game and more on them. However, I'm going for my postgrad in computer science (AI and ML) in September and need to upgrade my laptop and this times I need a change. I'll probably be moving around a bit and not always with a convenient plug nearby. The laptops I've usually had have the battery life of a horror movie flashlight and the weight of Mjölnir. So my question to you guys is this: Which laptop offers the best balance between power, battery life and weight? The LG Gram 17 has caught my eyes and might be *the one* but there might be something better that I'm not aware of. It even has a thunderbolt connection so I could connect an external GPU if needed. Requirements/non-requirements: Budget: Max $2500ish Needs: 17" display, backlit keyboard Doesn't need: Dedicated graphics card (I'll have access to those at the Uni. for my ML work and I'll probably don't have much time for gaming :/ ) Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!
