  1. Ah, yes this definitely more like parents buying alcohol for their kids and not parents buying r-rate movies/games for their kids. It definitely won't end up like in China where people just buy accounts from account sellers. If the crux of the matter relies on the parents not make accounts for the kids, why not just let the parents decide in the first place, without these laws that impact everyone else too.
  2. Ah, yes the one set up a year ago in order to combat the previous and possibly ongoing violations by US companies.
  3. So now I'm going to have to give my personal information to whatever social media site that still wants to operate in Florida? I guess companies are just gonna move out of Florida instead.
  4. Is YouTube not a viable alternative? I see Vtuber Youtube streams all the time, probably more than gaming streams on Youtube. Although that is probably due to the algorithm catering to me. I don't use Twitch much, but the layouts seem pretty similar.
  5. I occasionally browse his vids and he makes decent teardowns of phones of a pretty wide variety (price point, brand, etc.).
  6. The FE models were available for a couple hours this morning on Nvidia's website and Best Buy for MSRP but they're sold out too now. Same story with some models 40-100$ over MSRP being available. This is in the continental US.
  7. Eh, they made decent stuff before their push to smart stuff too. All my aunts in China have had their Haier washing machines for like 2 decades so far not replacing them. Its mostly the useless push to "smart" stuff and planned obsolescence that affects everyone. You get what you pay for really.
  8. That seems really nice. In my region in the US though, its pretty much MSRP except for sales periods. Maybe Amazon will be 50$ cheaper occasionally, but the Apple certified refurbished are still cheaper. Even better if you can find Apple certified refurbished on Amazon since its like your normal 10-15% discount + 50 or 100$ off. But again, thats hit or miss and usually only on select models. Only place I can find 15% off consistently is from Apple.
  9. I've looked around local retailers and their online stores but they have generally the same prices as Apple, unless its during peak discount time periods like black fridya or something else. I just find that the Apple refurb store generally is the most consistently discounted with the most consistent quality. I'm sure there are better deals out there but it takes a lot more time and effort to find imo.
  10. Apple certified refurbished products are so nice its like 10-15% discount for almost brand new. I've gotten my older parents 2 m2 macs direct from Apple refurbished and Amazon, which was also Apple certified refurbished and my parents couldn't tell until I told them.
  11. Perhaps the original boards aren't an easy size to work with so they take the actual GPU die off and put it in custom board that better fits their needs? That's a good question though, I'm just speculating. Seems like a lot of effort.
  12. I think the point is to have it be easily installable in server form factors. There's nothing wrong with the stock coolers, they're just too big for putting them in the normal server farms and AI training box sizes.
  13. I am interested in how this plays out. What will the licensing fees look like and how they would be implemented in different video games.
  14. Imagine if the RTX-4070ti launched as the RTX-4080 12GB for 100$ more like they planned to do originally.
  15. Nah, its still going to be a huge hit to the CCP, alongside the average person. The difference between legally buying thousands of datacenter/AI chips straight from Nvidia and smuggling RTX-4090s or whatever other banned GPU they can get their hands on is humongous. Nobody is expecting 100% watertight restrictions, thats wishful thinking, but the near term reduction in compute is definitely significant. Doesn't mean China can't catch up with domestic solutions, but its gonna be a while.
  16. I guess it was only a matter of time before the Chaebols manage to monopolize streaming in SK too. Its a damn shame for any Korean streamers on Twitch that had majority non-Korean audiences since I imagine migrating to Afreeca or another Korean owned streaming service is not gonna be easy, and unless you already have a Youtube following, Youtube doesn't have great discovery for streams.
  17. The statement makes no sense to me too. If Raimondo thinks currently unbanned chips are still to much, then just increase the restrictions. Nvidia have been following the recent curbs pretty well, so I don't understand why she thinks they're doing anything wrong. Nvidia isn't going to voluntarily limit themselves based on a sense of moral well-being and patriotism, but they definitely will follow whatever legal restrictions or export bans the US government passes.
  18. Hallelujah! Even if the slower ssd on the old base model was still plenty quick, im glad to see they addressed that downside here. Knowing Apple, they could have just as easily ignored that problem forever.
  19. The base model pro at $1599 but 8GB of RAM still doesn't feel right, even if its well managed and fast, but everything else seems like a pretty standard upgrade. Same prices for the new chips with everything else kept the same or similar. Apple's still the king of the hill when it comes to these SoCs and it doesn't look like they're slowing down too much. Also interested to see how the XElite chips compare, but I'm not holding my breath too much. At most they have similar perf/watt and perf in general, but Apple's software is still ahead. At worst we get repeat of Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and anemic windows on ARM.
  20. Depends on how they enforce this, but yes I think it could definitely help. Twitter and Facebook aren't known for being bastions of truth and reducing fake news about the most recent world event is good. We can also agree to disagree about how effective the EU is gonna be in doing this since I have a feeling you don't share the same opinion.
  21. That's more of a local country issue than an EU problem though. Without EU money, these projects either wouldn't be done in the first place, or local money would be used and even less would be allocated to actually completing the project. And where are you getting the 1% number from? It's definitely a problem, but its nowhere near an existential issue for the EU.
  22. The changes now make it cost less than Unreal for an actual majority of cases now I imagine. However, there has probably already been some amount of permanent damage to Unity's reputation and which will lead to negative financial repercussions down the road. Some of these changes might not be seen for another 4-5 years with current devs-in-training (or studios-to-be) switching from Unity to another engine down the road alongside current devs/studios in the present. Again, this is now solely the non-financial aspects of this situation that make it bad for Unity now. Even if all the messages and updates from Unity are 100% genuine now, how can anyone believe that will still be the case a year or two down the road whenever shareholders decide more money must be made? If Unity had done what they did in the last week in the month before the original announcement (and not mess with the TOS earlier in the year), can you imagine what a non-issue this would be? People would still be uncomfortable with the installs metric, but if everything else was acceptable, it probably would've been swept under the rug. Just wishful thinking since publicly traded companies almost always get sucked dry by investors having the foresight of a 2 year old.
  23. At this point I think the general fiscal changes to their payment changes are actually decent, where they are still raising prices but it seems to not be outrageous anymore. The pain points come from literally everything else, like communication to the community, installation vs other metrics used, timeline for changes, etc. It doesn't help that Unity was already facing some negative image issues in recent times, which like you said, have caused devs to question their relationship with Unity, especialy for future projects.
