  1. Hi, Seeking insight. Trying to run a Kurzweil Keyboard MIDI converter (written for Windows 95/98) app on Windows 11. I have Asus A17 Laptop about year old with Ryzen CPU and 16GB ram. I tried Run as admin and adjusting compatability to Windows 95/98. Still got "You cant run this APP on your PC" message. They have DOs version which I at least got to open on an old Windows XP, but I want to see if I can get the other one to work first without having to figure out Dos commands. Any other ideas as to get it work?
  2. Not familiar with smr. Only thing on it is OS just installed. Trying to get speed so I can short stroke it. yeah something is up its giving me readings all over the place each test I run.
  3. Just ran benchmark on brand new 2TB HD with HD Tune, graph is not showing taper off point where drive speed gets slower, just constant plateau and very low spike at very beginning. Not understanding why. Does it matter that I already have the Widows 10 installed on the drive I am bench marking? screen shot attached.
  4. not 100% sure what you were asking, but the RAM slots are right next to the CPU slots and there are eight Ram slots each with 4gb sticks in each. but if you were asking about the CPUs themself both CPUs are instaled but only one recognized
  5. Dell precision workstation 690. Intel Xeon 5060 SL96A 3200DP/4M/1066 Dual Core CPU Processor I made sure to research before I bought because many people were saying the motherboard can only work with a certain kind, so I bought the exact model that it came shipped with just to make sure.
  6. Dell desktop has 2 cpu slots 1 and 0. Slot 1 been in use for years but when I put new cpu in slot 0 BIOS do not see slot 0. Tried swapping to see if new cpu was problem but it worked when I tried independently. Also when I put either cpu in slot 0 and nothing in slot 1, computer won't even boot up because it does not recognize that slot. Any guesses? Had this desktop since 2006 and never even removed the plastic cover over the cpu slot until I bought this new cpu to install. Thanks
  7. yeah I was using it the night before and then when I woke up, it was at reset screen as if first installing windows. Also about a week ago it got stuck st login screen and then when I restarted it started diagnosing PC and repairing itself so I figured the two incidents were related
  8. Hi, Could use some help. Woke up this week to a laptop that reset overnight, prompting to choose keyboard layout. Dell Inspiron 5566 about 3 years old. Backing up data now before I try anymore fixes. Here is what I tried so far and the results as best I can remember: Command prompt to "get reg back" showed nothing. no string of numbers, no zeros, just the disk itself. 1) Tried all WRE fixes to no avail. 2) Command prompt SFC-"windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation" 3) Not sure but think I tried boot rec.exe next which lead to "cyclical redundancy check" error 4 think next I ran chdsk X/ f /r / v (prob wrong letters I know, but something like that) So then it started to work for a while saying things like "file segment record unreadable" "deleting indexing file 1234.wav" "deleting orphan file" "fixing bad clusters" and "failed to transfer logged messages" So I thought after all that , maybe success, but it restarted to same keyboard layout prompt. So on researching I know basically the OS can't find the needed files to boot, and I know there are some other things I can try (fix mbr etc) My questions; 1) Am I better off just getting new drive? ( read cyclical error and logged error might mean there is actual hardware damage) 2) Or do you think one of these data recovery/disk fix programs like testdisk can fix my problem.? Would prefer to not have to reinstall everything again. Any insight is appreciated. thanks
  9. Thanks all for the suggestions. For reference, the files are on archive.org. Basically this guy and his friend and his friend (there is a TEd talk on it) decided to see if they could create every melody combination possible and so apparently there are two separate 600GB files of MIDI files he uploaded. If I'm not mistaken, something like 68 Billion melodies.
