  1. Well there it is! It sounds like the iGPU has a good chance of working, so I'll give it a try. Thanks everyone for the help!
  2. Yeah, I might have to do that. Thanks for the input so far!
  3. Yes, this is for my office pc. I run a 6700xt at home.
  4. I run some heavy calculations, so the 13700k will be a welcome upgrade. I want to avoid a dedicated GPU if I can, otherwise I might grab an Intel Arc A750 for $250.
  5. Hi, I'm thinking about using the integrated graphics on an i7 13700k to drive a pair of 4k monitors for non-gaming. The i7 8700 I have right now struggles a bit, on occasion, with a 1080p monitor and 4k combination. Will the 13700k have better integrated graphics processing, and do you think it can handle a pair of 4k monitors? Thanks! Jim
  6. Hello, my RAM died so I need a new kit. What's the sweet spot for a 12700k on an MSI Z690-A Pro motherboard? The C16 3600Mhz kits are cheap, but is it worth it to go for a C14 3600Mhz kit? Thanks, Jim
  7. I agree in general, but I'm special. I used to use a car radiator without any fans at all to cool my PC, but the wife didn't care for it too much, go figure. Lately I'm using 2x 360mm rads with fans turning at idle, and it's on the other side of my mobo, so its very quiet. I can't hear the pump either, so it works for me.
  8. Thanks brob, Ryuikko, and emosun! I looked at the B660 mobos but I like the greater drive handling that the Z690 offers. I only have 2 m.2 drives in mind at the moment (one in hand, and a gen 4 on the list above), but this will grow. I already have 4 HDDs and 2 SSDs, but I didn't think to mention it earlier. The i7 12700k is a real possiblity, as it's another $100 over the 12600k and its multithreaded performance is much higher.
  9. Thanks! I haven't built this yet, so everything is on the table. I already have a power supply (850 watt) and case (custom DIY). I like water cooling because it's quiet, though my open frame case could easily handle air cooling. I thought about a D15, but there are some more affordable options these days. I like how Noctua offers free mounts to avoid having to trash old coolers, so they'd be worth the price to me.
  10. Budget (including currency): $1300 Country: USA Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Lightroom, Photoshop, video editing, MS Flight sim 2020 Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): Where is the best place to add $100 to this build to get the most bang for my buck? Here's the base build: i5 12600k for $278 MSI Pro Z690-A DDR4 $195 G.Skill 2x16 3200 C16 RAM $113 WD SN850 NVMe SSD 1Tb $140 XFX RX 6700 XT - $500 Bonus question, what's a good waterblock for the CPU? Too many negative comments about the Corsair Hydro X XC7. Thanks for the help!
  11. Hello, I am prepping for an i5 12600k or i7 12700k build. Performance by OC'ing RAM alone seems weak, so 3200 C16 looks like a good spec, with extra cash going to the GPU instead of faster memory. BUT, if I OC the CPU a bit, what RAM spec do I want to keep pace in G1? Is it as simple as 3600/3200 = 1.125 factor increase, which would allow 1.125 x 3.6ghz = 4.05 base clock OC? And what about staying at C16 in this scenario? Thanks for the help!
  12. Thanks everyone! I'll set my sights on a 6800XT and look for a price below $800. Unless the 7800 comes out first
  13. Now that I am starting to see GPU's available, the question is when I should buy. What is the baseline price, e.g. not marked up, for the latest GPU's, like the 6800, 6800XT, 3070, 3070TI?
  14. I have the following build: R5 3600 16 gb RAM, at 3400 GTX 1660Ti M.2 SSD, WD Black for OS and MSFS On my 1080p monitor I can run at the ultra settings and get 40-50 fps, generally high 40s. For MSFS, I find anything above 30 to be acceptable. I might do better if I unplug my 2nd monitor. At these settings, I'm at 30-40% cpu usage and 100% gpu usage. RAM usage is all over the map. It will use 4gb at times, and 12gb at times. How about you? I didn't see a stand alone stream on the topic, so I thought I's jump in. Jim, in Iowa
