FratStar reacted to Trik'Stari in EPIC JAILBREAK: Introducing checkm8 (read "checkmate"), a permanent unpatchable bootrom exploit for hundreds of millions of iOS devices.
Physical access to a device eventually grants all access to a device, with time.

The important takeaway here, for me, is that any government agency claiming they can't access a device, despite having physical access and in fact ownership (physical possession) of the device, is completely fucking lying out of their asses.

I say this because Way Back When, the FBI claimed they couldn't get into an iPhone and needed to force Apple to make a back door for them. A back door that they factually did not need, and the only reason for such an argument was that they wanted it for devices they did not have physical access to.

There is an old saying, Never attribute to malice, that which can be attributed to stupidity. This saying needs to be reversed when government is concerned. ALWAYS attribute government actions to malice instead of stupidity. Assume they want something because they can abuse it.

FratStar reacted to leadeater in Intel Internal Memo Reveals that even Intel is Impressed by AMD's Progress
Sure there's actually plenty, but that's getting pretty off topic plus you should have checked benchmarks and reviews before saying this. You don't even compare a 7601 to an 8180 anyway, people like to but these actually occupy very different product segments in the server market. Why would I pay a huge price premium for an 8 socket compatible processor and compare it to a 2 socket processor let alone actually use 8180 in a 2 socket configuration. Xeon Gold 6152 is almost a third the price, only 4 less cores, much less power and still support 4 sockets to boot. Can buy two complete servers for what it would cost for one 8180 and have 32 more cores.

Server parts have and always will be about use case and best fit for purpose. Performance is often traded and offset to account for other more important factors. Performance profiles also don't align to high model more expensive part is better either.

100 lower performance servers are better than 80 high performance ones in a general VMware vSphere cluster for VM hosting, of non specialty servers i.e. standard application and web servers not database servers.

But all of this is why Xeons aren't even relevant.

FratStar reacted to LAwLz in Mozilla Firefox soon to go freemium
I wonder how many people just read the title without reading the article or summary. Seems like at least a few didn't bother.
Firefox is not going Freemium. Mozilla will simply start offering a VPN and cloud storage service. They already tested the VPN portion a while ago, when they offered ProtonVPN through Firefox.

This is NOT about having to pay for Firefox. It is about Mozilla offering other services like a VPN, which is subscription based.
Saying that this is like "Firefox going premium" makes as much sense as to say Google Chrome is "Freemium" because Google sells cloud storage through Google Drive.

Well, given what you said I'm assuming you have access to the company email, which is also the Apple ID. Sure, with that info it'll be no problem to access the account and unlock the phone. But then again, that's hardly a vulnerability on Apple's side, so I don't see why you originally said iPhones are easy to break into.

Ferrari (or other manufacturers) just expect you to own a lot of their cars already. Any of the Limited Ferraris or the Lambos just have different "standing" requirements. Those are more like really expensive social clubs, however. What Ford has been up to is more of an anti-flipper approach while also getting "free" marketing out of people. They've turned getting the new GT into a luxury item on its own. (Frankly, they've understood, properly, the concept of a Halo Product in the current era.)

Using non-celebrity Social Media as a check on your ability to get a credit card is a far different event. It also has legal consequences.

In other words these politicians are sulking because they have no power over him and want to make it sound like they are some sort of authority in the matter.

In serves no one to play "I'm important" games, it's embarrassing for the country and the politicians need to get on with running their country rather than dancing around with toy guns.

I've always been at opposition with anyone who thinks/talks like they can extend their countries laws outside of their own boundaries, if it's such a problem have a study done, present the evidence then order the site be blocked in your country at ISP level.   I know people will get shitty with this, but if you can prove a site is misinforming people to the detriment of due political process during an election, then that amounts to defamation and libel.  Trying to hide behind the "it's not my content" argument is just an excuse to not take responsibility for the damage your site is an accomplice to.

FratStar reacted to dalekphalm in Ad Buster Buster - Chrome to limit ad blocking to Enterprise users only
While most normal users don’t use adblocker (unless they had some techie friend install one), this will likely drive many techie users back to Firefox.

Chromium should retain the ability to block ads effectively though, since it’s open source. And if the official chromium branch follows Google, you can bet there’ll be a fork immediately.

If Google wants to go down this route, they need to take the ad problem seriously and work on fixing bad ads.
