They didn't really give us any official reasoning other than "HQ told us to stop working on it". When we reached out to an AASP, they said there's a months-long wait list on parts availability, along with the lack of certification for technicians.

To clarify a bit further, the screen is at this point destroyed. The logic board may or may not be OK, and the power supply seems OK. Basically we listed those parts by going off what the Apple store told us their troubleshooting steps were going to be, and the fact that their replacing the PSU (the one step they managed to complete before being told to stop) didn't help.

Problem is even if you could find a replacement screen not through Apple you will probably run into the same issue that Macbook Pro users are currently running into with the latest update of High Sierra. Third-party replacement screens are unable to adjust their brightness due to the EDID chip on the screen not matching. RIP iMac Pro.

Apple Employee - Sir, can we fix the iMac which we have received ?
Tim Cook - Don't fix any iMac instead reply them politely with any major bullshit that comes in your mind and in the end add we can't fix iMac if there are not all parts.
Apple Employee - Why Sir ?
Tim Cook - They'll be forced to buy "a new iMac"......HaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHaHa

Can't they provide a refurbished replacement?
Another idea (stupid one anyway); would a normal display from normal 5k iMac work?

    What a ridiculous system?

    "Hi we built a computer"

"Great! Can I have a replacement part?"

    "No they dont exist"

"How do you build a computer with parts that dont exist?"

Why are the refusing to repair it? seems like a lack of information.

Are they refusing because you took it apart and you're a public figure so they are giving you guys the middle finger? Or is it because they legitimately dont have the parts. The logic boards on macs are serial locked and theres no way for an user to swap them out without an apple program to assign the new serial number. If apple doesnt have the parts to repair it, they should offer a similar cost to swap it out, similar to what they did with the 2012 MacBook pro last year when they ran out of top case assemblies with batteries and decided to replace whole machines for the same cost as the battery.
