  1. but why would it be working at full speed when connected to the USB-C port on the GPU ?
  2. Hello there, I recently purchased Kingston DataTraveler Max 1TB USB-C Flash Drive which operates at USB 3.2 gen 2 speed, and i ran into an interesting situation : if I connect it to the USB-C port on my Motherboard (Gigabyte Aorus Z390 Master) I get a read speed of 1GBps and write speed of around 370 MBps in Crystal Disk Mark, however if I connect it to the USB-C port on my RTX 2080 I get 1GBps speed for both read and write, I tried updating drivers, connecting to different ports, tinkering with BIOS settings to no avail, the write speed through the Motherboard port sucks consistently, but only the write speed! I also noticed that if i connect it to a USB A 3.1 gen 1 port with a full-speed adapter, I get a read speed of 450 MBps and write speed of 250 MBps, so it got me thinking that it may has something to do with how Windows emulates the device, because it is connected as "USB-Attached SCSI" but then this is the same as when it is connected through the GPU, so I ran out of ideas at this point, any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.
  3. Thanks alot PineyCreek & Universes, 1- the Areca one is a bit too expensive 2- the QNAP D800C is JBOD only, no Raid support 3- the TerraMaster was the same conclusion I reached, it seems to be the only one with all the features I need. 4- the DS420+ is NAS only, no option for DAS 5- the QNAP Tr-004 has horrible reviews, but it does theoritically match my requirements 6- the Drobo seems to be out of stock everywhere Again thank you for taking the time to help me out, much appreciated
  4. I'm looking to buy a Direct attached storage with the following specs : 1- 4 bay 2- USB 3.2 Gen 2 or Thunderbolt 3 (prefer USB so I don't need to buy TB Card) 3 - supports Raid natively I have been looking for quite a while now, everything I found was either too slow (USB 3 Gen 1) or doesn't support Raid natively, I would very much appreciate any advice or suggestions.
  5. Thank you all for the replies, I have a clear pic now.
  6. For quite a while I have been contemplating buying a subscription for BitDefender, but the more reviews I read, the more it seems that its not that much better than Windows Defender, and most cyber threat assessment websites nowadays give WD very good ratings, Thoughts anyone ?
  7. Consider enterprise HDDs with URE rate of 1 every 10^15 bits read versus a consumer grade ssd, Do ssds have better URE rates in general ? Taking into account price and various reliability factors and especially URE, am i better off using 4TB enterprise HDDs for a 6-drive RAID 5 array, or should i use a bunch of ssds in a RAID 0 setup ? Thanks.
  8. Hello everyone, I have a Gigabyte Aorus z390 Master and i'm using SIV to monitor and control Fan speeds, problem is I want to tie my side fans to the GPU Temp, but SIV seems to have a problem monitoring GPU Temp in a stable manner, as shown in the pic, GPU temp is missing, sometimes it works though, usually immediately after a reboot, anyone encountered this issue before? any ideas how to fix it ?
  9. I recently got the Aorus AD27QD gaming monitor, its a gorgeous screen, my only problem is that I've set Windows screen timeout to 5 mins, but instead of the screen turning off then, it just turns black, but stays on, anyone knows why is that ? update : Turns out the monitor does go to sleep ONLY the first time after the PC has booted, but if I wake it up and let it sleep again, it acts as described.
  10. True, the link shared by Semper shows that there's almost no performance difference.
  11. I recently bought a SATA Expansion card, which requires to be installed in a PCIe x8 to run at full potential, now the problem with my mobo (Aorus z390 Master) is that the x8 PCIe slot where I installed the SAS card shares Bandwidth with the x16 slot where my AORUS RTX 2080 Xtreme is installed, so now the x16 slot runs at x8, and I was wondering how would that affect the performance of the VGA Card, does it need the full 16 lanes to run with optimum performance ?
  12. so what are other options to reliably combine multiple drives in a Windows environment ?
  13. I did some research, and it seems that dual parity in storage spaces is only available in server versions of Windows, so I guess i'm back to square one.
  14. I'm looking for recommendations for a high quality, proven PCIe SATA Expansion card, doesn't have to be RAID capable as i'm running software RAID.
  15. Didn't know that, thanks for the info, but why would it need 7 disks when the typical RAID 6 requires 5 disks ?
  16. Storage spaces doesn't support double parity unfortunately, the 2-way mirror is RAID 1 not RAID 6
  17. I'm looking for alternative to RAID for my home Media Server because I'm beginning to utilize drives bigger than 4TB which doesn't work very well for RAID5, I need a solution which addresses the reliability issue of RAID5 with Large drives. it should also keep the data handy all the time, so cloud storage is not really an option, Would be nice if it offers expansion options in the future in case I want to add more drives, and it should work on Windows. I'm currently using Windows storage spaces in Parity mode (is it on the same reliability level as RAID5 ?)
  18. The 2 monitors are very similar which makes it hard to to chooses one over the other, I'm looking for opinions based on real life experiences that would help me choose. thanks in advance.
  19. This is a very good idea, I will try that and let you know how it goes, thank you.
  20. Good day, consider a RAID 5 array consisting of 3x4TB HDDs on an intel RST onboard controller My understand is that initialization builds parity information for each data block on the volume, but since this is a freshly created volume, I don't really care about the current parity information status. I also understand that when I begin writing data to the volume, proper parity information will be created for the new data and written to the volume. so why do I need to initialize a blank RAID 5 volume ? also if a drive fails on an uninitialized volume, will I still be able to rebuild it ? Thanks in advance.
  21. Exactly that, Thank you all for your input, it was indeed a voltage issue, on default settings, the Mobo provides up to 1.38V to the processor under load, with the ez tune application and switching to OC mode (all cores are OCed to 5.0Ghz) the voltage goes up to 1.45V and the temp goes beyond 100C and the CPU begins thermal throttling. I've tried some variable stress loads, there is no realistic real life scenario that would saturate all the CPU cores and cause it to overheat in such manner, at this point I will just leave everything as is, I don't see a good motive to decrease the voltage manually. As for the other parts of my question, is the Fan-to-Heatsink setup good ? is there a better setup ? and for the heatsink being hot, my concern is that one of the towers is much hotter than the other, I was wondering if that was because the cooler tower is sandwiched between fans so it gets better airflow .. for the case airflow, I have a CM storm trooper with 5 PWM fans which I like to think are optimally aranged for low intake - high exhaust scheme, so I don't think I have any issues with airflow inside the case, but thanks for the brainstorming anyway.
  22. Good Day Gentlemen, I just finished putting together my new PC, its specs are as follows : Gigabyte Aorus z390 Master Intel corei9-9900k running at stock speed Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 Xtreme Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GBx2 Corsair HX750i PSU Noctua NH-D15 Air cooler with NT-H1 thermal paste I have a few questions : I'm using Front intake-Back exhaust scheme, do you see anything in the below pic that would conflict with that ? both Noctua fans are in the same orientation (sucking air from the direction the pic was taken and blowing backwards where the rear case Fan blows outside the case), because I read some opinions saying that Front fan should be moved behind the 2nd cooling tower, so that both fans would be sucking air through the blades instead of pushing air into the blades on AIDA63 extreme, I'm getting unusually high CPU temps when stress testing the CPU,FPU and cache : 90-92 within 3 mins of running the test, is that normal ? of the 2 cooling towers on the D15, the one towards the back of the case is much hotter to the touch than the one sandwiched between the fans, is that normal ? Thanks alot in advance.
