  1. You can buy ones with more ram but of course they are generally more expensive, additionally I believe the original C7 chromebook can take like 16GB RAM and a full size SSD.
  2. So for christmas I have gotten my girlfriends dad a chromebook as his tablet is basically dying on its ass and he doesnt want to move to Windows 10 (My desktop will be replacing the old household one) This has made me wonder if I can use my chromebook for light programming. I dont want to use a cloud IDE but I know I can use either remote desktop or crouton (Standard or Xiwi) But which would be better? I would love to use Xiwi but last time I tried the hardware acceleration was none existent and I havent been following the project. What would you suggest for this? Thanks
  3. Purchasing a system like this is entirely between the customer and the seller, if the customer wants to buy it at that price let them, no matter how criminal it is (Well it isn't but for us it is.) Also they are not lying when they say its a "Gaming PC" it can play solitaire so technically it is a gaming PC even though consoles can likely wreck this thing.
  4. Bitlocker mainly, plus Hyper V as I use it for my VM systems which are on VHD currently
  5. Hi All, So I am looking at upgrading my laptops windows license from Home to Pro and was wondering if some of these sites where they are really cheap are legit? Has anyone here purchased from them? Thanks
  6. Not in the same way as windows 10 plus this build is like a year old
  7. I can but I have to use the on screen keyboard which is annoying AF I don't expect I would have this problem with a fresh build but we use a special windows build and I can't find the iso on our servers to rebuild it hence the conversion
  8. I had a massive amount of issues with VMware when it was a vdmk file hence why I moved to hyper v
  9. Hi All, So I recently converted my work laptop to a VHD VM with Hyper V as my personal laptop is more powerful than works laptop, and I only use it for 1 thing. So while the VHD conversion and booting worked perfectly fine I have a missing driver for my keyboard and mouse, the mouse is the least of my issues as mouse passthrough seems to be working. But the keyboard is not seen at all and passing through does not work at all, the driver is "Standard 101/102-Key or Microsoft Natural PS/2 Keyboard for HP Hotkey Support", I have downloaded a hotkey from HP that seems to match this but it fails to install (x64 installer against x64 machine) Any suggestions the hardware/software IDs don't point to any reputable websites. Thanks
  10. I only have Windows 10 Home not pro, which as far as I know does not come with Hyper-V
  11. Hi All, So this weekend I am planning on rebuilding my workflow for university, I will likely rely heavily upon VMs. So I have basically 3 options. Reinstall Windows 10 Home and use VMWare Install Windows Server and use Hyper-V Install Linux and use QEMU. I have no reliance on any particular software other than BlueJ as it is what the university use for their IDE, and it generally works well across all platforms, plus an advantage is the university is not specific on what OS you use. What would you suggest for such a build? Thanks!
  12. Don't want to spend that much, around £60 is my limit
  13. So I am looking at a new mouse and I am unsure which to get I play a few fps games but mostly RPGs but I must have back and forward buttons. Which would you suggest Thanks
  14. Secure boot is off and legacy only is enabled. all USB ports have been tested but tbh that would mean the USB couldn't even be seen by the bios if there screwed i am thinking of sticking them both on eBay and getting a newer laptop from PC specialist or something
  15. First please follow what I consider the standard diagnostic steps. Remove all un-needed components (GPU, Excess RAM, HDD/SSD) then attempt a boot, if it works it has to be one of them parts you took out, trust me even a HDD can cause failed postings. If not begin to suspect the PSU, it maybe absolutely buggered, more so if you say its carried over. Additionally are the screws to tight on the motherboard? this could cause shortage. Try resetting the BIOS, this can take a couple of attempts if its corrupt. Feed back with what you find
  16. Depends, you have two types, full backups which will basically just keep copying until storage is full, you can make these overwrite after so long depending on software. Then there is incremental backups which will only backup changes to the system, e.g you have a new document, backup will detect this and add it onto the existing backup, useful for small storages I think
  17. Hi All, So I am having a very strange issue with either 2 of my laptops or my 500GB Samsung SSD. So I am trying to install OpenSUSE Tumbleweed on it, it has installed sucessfully as tested by my desktop, but if I put it into either my x220 or my Asus X552EA laptop it either doesn't boot or doesn't detect. But what is strange with the Asus is it detects a HDD, now as I have a drive slate in there it could be that and the main controller could be dead, if so well meh. But the x220 is particually strange, could it be a motherboard issue or a SSD issue, even though the SSD boot fine on my desktop and logs into OpenSUSE. What would you suggest? Thanks
  18. It's an intel hd 3000 but dunno how much vram It has, rather speedy though going up to 1.3ghz
  19. Hello all So I was thinking about using my x220 as a super small light gaming machine. its an i5 2520m and not a ulv chip so it can push some power. The main game I want to run is Oblivion (2007) and was wondering if anyone had experience with such a setup? Other games are things like roller coaster so I have no worries there. Thanks
  20. So I am thinking of purchasing a screen and screen case for my RPi2, I will soon be building a CCTV system out of my Zero and was thinking of connecting it to this screen. There screen is this one here and I am undecided between these two cases here and here Additionally for when I am away I may use it for a bit of light retro gaming when I am in a hotel or something, so the screen needs to be able to stand up on its own, which I am unsure if the first case can. The CCTV is the main project here so what would you recommend based upon that? Thanks
  21. I have tried it before, but never actually got on with the system for some reason, I agree its a nice system though
  22. This is true and I have to admit a good solution to my problem but do they allow GUI? I can get around using only the terminal but I wouldn't consider my self productive, additionally we MUST use BlueJ as it is require by the course otherwise I would use either nano or vi. But I agree would be a good solution
  23. The problem is when I have tested, Ubuntu with Unity specifically takes around 1.2GB RAM, fair play thats on a 16GB system but I don't expect it to be much better on a VM with 1GB RAM 1 Core
  24. So I am looking for a linux distro for a VM for university, instead of building some system to allow me to sync all systems together outside of dropbox or google drive I thought it would be simpler to use Virtualbox on my many different systems and simply have the vdmk on a exFAT usb drive. But here comes the important question, what distro? The languages I will be writing in are Python and Java, I am unsure of the Python IDE yet but the Java IDE is BlueJ which has a native installer for .deb based systems. Additionally Java has a native .rpm installer for RHEL/Fedora based systems. I am looking for something relatively light weight (I cant dedicate massive amounts of resource to the VM) so the slimmer the system the better for my devices, I have looked at Fedora Server /w LXDE setup and Lubuntu with leaning towards Lubuntu due to my RPi been able to run BlueJ. The problem I mainly have with Lubuntu is its a bit behind fedora in terms of packages, I like to have a relatively new set of packages, best solution to upgrade every 6 months (Comparable to Fedora) What could you suggest to this and have you also attempted such a system and had any success? Thanks
  25. I just finished playing the EA Access trail and I enjoyed it a lot, the story levels I played where rather fun, its something fresh I think and I enjoy the period its set in with the technology. Only thing I have to ask is if I buy the standard edition can I play it now via EA Access? or will I have to wait?
