  1. Thats fair. I've not experienced any issues with the card other than the coil whine, its just something my girlfriend has picked up on while I'm gaming. My 2080 that I handed down to my girlfriend did and still does whine but at perhaps a third of the volume of the 3080, so it was just an unexpected change. The only reason I mentioned about about the PSU is that I have no problem buying another if it was confirmed to help, but my PC is under my desk and I can't hear it with headphones on so perhaps its easier just leave it be...
  2. I have a new build that seems to suffer from coil whine from both the PSU and GPU, the GPU being the worst of the two. Build is as follows: AMD 5900X MSI X570 Thomahawk Wifi Nvidia 3080 FE Corsair RMX850 PSU The build is a couple of weeks old now and I was kind of hoping the coil whine would settle as the components were used, but that hasn't been the case. I fully expect there to always be some form of whine, but curious if whine from the 3080 FE specifically was common, and if changing my PSU would have any effect?
  3. I was under the assumption that I could achieve the same scores and boost clocks as everyone else by just turning PBO on. I'm guessing that is not the case?
  4. After having a butt load of issues with my 9900k and motherboard not playing ball, I decided to hop over to AMD and just stop wasting trying to fix my Z390 motherboard. Plan is to eventually send it off to Gigabyte to see if it can be repaired. Anyway, I'm now on a MSI X570 Tomahawk Wifi with an 5800X and everything appears to be good, but comparing my boost clocks and Cinebench R23 scores with others mine seems to be on the low side. 4.3-4.4Ghz all core boost with a Cinebench score just shy of 15000. Searching around a boost of 4.5-4.6 and a score of around 15500 is where it should be. PBO is currently set to Auto as thats whats giving me the best score, but all of the other PBO BIOS options (Enhanced Mode) give me lower clocks. Using Ryzen Master / HWiNFO I can see that my CPU temp is around 75C so no overheating issues, but I can see I'm hitting the EDC limit. I've tried manually raising the PBO limits but that seems to just result in lower clocks. I have no idea if I am doing something wrong, or if my expectations are just too high. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  5. Just heard back from Gigabyte again and they're recommending I send the board back to them for a replacement. This will be interesting as its my primary PC at home and being without that for a while is going to be a royal pain in the arse. Wonder if I can just buy a new board from them directly... The only other keyboard I have is an Apple USB one, but I get the same issues with that.
  6. Just an update to the issue. I've stripped the motherboard down to just the CPU and a single stick of ram, using the onboard GPU. I've also re-flashed the BIOS, and removed the CMOS battery to clear everything. Gave Ctrl + Alt + F6 a go for a lower BIOS resolution too (it takes forever for the BIOS to switch resolution due to lag). It still lags in the BIOS, and loading Smart Fan 5 in the BIOS will cause the PC to hang.
  7. Fast boot in both the OS and BIOS seem to have no effect also. Currently have a support email chain going with Gigabyte where they have me testing various hardware configurations, so we'll see how this goes. I'm pretty sure that the GPU / NVME conflict I had originally thought was the issue isn't the case as I can replicate the issue with only one of those plugged in. I'm tempted to just switch board at this rate, if I can find a new decent Z390 board somewhere... Worth mentioning that I've also done a few benchmarks on the CPU, GPU, and NVME while in Windows and none of them seem to be underperforming, everything works great once booted.
  8. Changing CSM doesn't seem to make any difference, only thing I can reliably replicate is turning the PC off at the wall and the first boot being fine.
  9. Appreciate you looking into this for me. I can certainly try and update the BIOS again if it will let me. I'm using a Corsair K70 MK2, so no wireless here unfortunately.
  10. Just a small update to this issue. After a couple of hours of tinkering, removing my GPU, NVME, and other various devices, the problem always seems to re-appear after a couple of reboots after I plug the machine back into the wall. So it would appear that it has nothing to do with the NVME and GPU combo.
  11. I have a Gigabyte Aorus Pro paired with a 9900k, 32gb Corsair 3200 DDR4, RTX 3080 FE, and a Samsung 970 NVME. For some reason with both the 3080 and the NVME plugged in at the same time, the BIOS is extremely laggy and slow to the point where it's basically unusable. Booting without a GPU and the NVME installed, the BIOS is flawless. Booting without the NVME and with the GPU installed, no problem, BIOS is perfect. As soon as you try and boot with them in together the machine takes ages to POST, and Windows takes ages to pick up my keyboard and mouse at login. When I am logged into Windows though everything appears to be fine. I've tried swapping the GPU with no luck, I have also cleared and updated the BIOS which solved nothing other than now leaving me needing to configure everything again in the painful BIOS. Worth noting that if I remove the NVME and boot to BIOS, shutdown the machine and re-install the NVME, I can access the BIOS and see the NVME in there and everything is fine. As soon as I reboot again I'm back to lag world. Does anyone have any idea what is going on here? It is currently driving me insane and I really don't know what to try next.
  12. D15 on a Aorus Pro here, 9900k at stock. Temps are pretty high for me too with no real room for overclocking. Starting to think the D15 isn't that great on the warmer chips, but that might be down to back luck in the silicon lottery. Worth adding that my D15 wasn't great on my 4770k either. I either have the worst luck with chips, or the performance of the D15 varies quite a bit between setups.
  13. I agree the voltage seems high considering all of the posts I've seen of people with some decent overclocks. I guess you just don't hear about the people that have bad chips, only those that have good ones and can achieve a decent overclock... I'm no overclocking expert so I don't think I'm going to try and push any other settings further as I'm starting to feel a little out of my comfort zone. I think if a custom loop is where I need to go I'll just leave it stock for now, as its really not worth pouring more money into it. I was just after something reasonably future proof. That's fair, I'm just testing for the worst case scenario really.
  14. Bit the bullet and upgraded to a 9900k, but I'm a little disappointed that I seemingly have the worst chip for overclocking. Motherboard is the Z390 Aorus Pro, RAM is 16gb of Corsair 3200 LPX, CPU cooler is the Noctua D15 with NT-H1 paste. With everything installed out of the box with no overclock I'm seeing mid 90s in P95 v29.8 Small FFTs (AVX), low 80s in P95 v26.6 (no AVX). To me, those temps already seem very warm without too much room for an overclock already. Tried a couple of re-seats of the cooler but no joy, still as warm as ever. I've currenty got 4.8Ghz working with 1.32 vcore, but that puts my non AVX P95 into the 90s temp wise. Anything higher than 4.8Ghz though and temp doesn't matter as its just a BSOD fest. I went as high as 1.35 to try 4.9 but the temps at that point instantly started to hit 100. So I have a couple of questions: Is my only option to try water cooling at this stage? Are there any other BIOS settings worth trying? Is my RAM a limiting factor? Do I just have a bad chip?
