Hello, I have a PC that I build back in 2015 and have slowly been upgrading over the years. The only parts that have been left the same are the CPU and Motherboard, and I feel like it's time to upgrade these as well. I upgraded my GPU last year, just before the huge price increase and noticed that in a lot of games I was being limited massively by my CPU. Seeing a CPU usage of over 90% is very normal at almost everything I do nowadays. So I went looking around to see what is available to upgrade to. Of course when I upgrade my CPU I will also have the upgrade my Motherboard and that is what is the most difficult for me to choose and I would like some advice on. I am not looking for anything crazy in a motherboard, but I would like to be able to overclock my CPU, so an Intel Z or AMD X board would be preferred. I also don't need WiFI. For the memory I currently have 32GB of DDR4, which I think is fine for my usecase, so I don't think an upgrade to DDR5 would be worth it yet, as these seem to be fairly expensive still, but if someone can show me otherwise why not . Lastly I have a PCIe 3.0 M.2 NVMe SSD as my boot drive and it would be nice to be able to upgrade this to a PCIe 4/5 later, so a motherboard that supports that would be nice as well. I don't have a preference perse between AMD or Intel, but I've always had Intel and it has been running well for the past 7 years, even overclocked by almost 20% since 2016 or so. As for motherboard manifacturer I have mostly had ASUS and MSI, which have been very good always, I think their BIOS's are very nice to work in. I have had trouble with Gigabyte (both a Motherboard and a GPU were doing weird out of the box) when building a PC for a friend, so I don't know if I want that . As well as AsRock always seemed to be kinda budget, but maybe I'm wrong . This what I've already been looking at: (only intel) - Intel 12700K(F?) = €450 - MSI MPG Z690 EDGE WIFI DDR4 = €330 - MSI MAG Z690 Tomahawk WiFi DDR4 = €290 - ASUS ROG Strix Z690-A GAMING WIFI D4 = €280 - ASUS TUF Gaming Z690-PLUS WIFI D4 = €270 All motherboards seem to have WiFI, which I don't really need, so if anyone knows if they are availabe without for cheaper that would be nice . Thanks in advance for the help! Cheers, Iwan
  2. Yeah it's also because the prices here are at least 50 USD more if you compare it to prices in the USA, and pcpartpicker lists the RAM you put on there for way too much, if compared to similar RAM. The RAM I currently have is also the type made for Intel and not the 'Z' type Corsair makes specifically for AMD, so I will probally be going with Intel so I don't have to buy new RAM. Thanks for the tips on the WD SDD's, am probally gonna buy one of those as well when getting the new CPU and motherboard.
  3. Thanks for the response! Some great tips I can definitely work with! The pcpartpicker list looks good, altough I don't think I'll need the RAM as I already have 32Gb of 3200Mhz CL16. Which is good as translating the prices to my region brings it up to €800 with the RAM, but without to €670. The WD SDD looks good value for money indeed, I'll keep that in mind as well! Also thanks for the tip for the retrofit kit, I didn't even think of that.
  4. Hi, I currently have a pc that I upgraded bit by bit since I build it back in 2015, but the only parts I haven't upgraded are the CPU and motherboard. And now I'm looking to upgrade those parts, but am not sure what to go with. Here is my current build: CPU: Intel I7 6700k Cooler: Corsair H115i RGB PRO XT Motherboard: ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 4x8Gb (32Gb) 3200Mhz CL16 GPU: ASUS TUF 3080 OC 10Gb PSU: Corsair RM850x Case: Corsair 5000D Airflow Boot SSD: Samsung 970 EVO Plus 500Gb NVMe M.2 I want to change out my CPU to get a more fluent gaming experience and PC experience overal. My CPU is capped at 100% usage in almost every game I play, while my GPU is only running at 50% usage. I have already looked around and was thinking about maybe either the Intel I7 12700k or the AMD Ryzen 9 5900X, with ofcourse a new motherboard to go with the socket. For motherboard I don't want it to be a cheap model that is very bare-bones, but I don't need an over-the-top crazy motherboard either. Preferably a Z or X board so that I have some future-proofing to maybe overclock later. I don't have a preference for Intel or AMD. At last I would like to upgrade my boot SSD later as well to maybe a PCI-e 4.0 one down the line, so a motherboard with support for that would be nice as well. My budget is around €600 - €700 (€400 CPU + €200 - €300 motherboard) Also I have seen videos and articles about new upcoming 13th gen Intel CPU's and new AMD CPU's with a new AM5 socket, so maybe I should wait for them to come out? I'm not in a rush, my computer still works fine. I hope someone has some tips for me on which direction I should go to get the best performance within my budget! Thanks in advance!
  5. Hi thanks for your response! 2 others also came to the conclusion that the current setup is fine so I'm gonna keep it this way, thanks for your help!
  6. Thanks for your reply! The 3 at the front and the one at the back are all Corsair SP120s. They seem to be pretty ok fans, maybe not very quiet but I don't mind that as I always have a headset on. I think I'm gonna keep the fans the way they are now!
  7. Thanks for your response! I think I'm gonna keep it the way they are now then as someone else also said that how they are now is probably fine.
  8. Hi, I have a question about my computer cooling and how I should align my fans for best cooling. Here is a quick drawing of how my pc looks now and how I have it set up: The way I have it right now gives me the idea the AIO is not really doing it's work because it is pulling hot air through the radiator from inside the case, but if I turn them around I feel like the pressure will be to high in the case as then there is only 1 fan blowing outwards at the back. Hopefully anyone can help me and have some tips for me on how to do this! Thanks!
  9. I plugged it in the CPU_FAN header, should be the right one right? I use the CPU_OPT for the fan at the back of my pc, but that was always like that.
  10. Hi, I just bought a new case because my old one was too small for my new 3080 to fit inside. I started by taking everything out of the old case and putting it aside gently, after that I put everything in the new case. After turning it on and happy that it booted I was greeted with the message from my ASUS motherboard: "CPU FAN ERROR". So I looked inside the case and saw the fans spinning on my Corsair H100i V2 AIO so was confused for a second, but when it send me to the BIOS I immediately saw that my CPU temps were rising with 3 degrees Celsius every second, so I came to the conclusion I must be my pump... I checked all cables, which were all fine. I then also took it off and put it on again to see if any thing would change, but no luck. I also took everything out of the case and only had the motherboard, ram, CPU, AIO cooler and of course the PSU to check if maybe it would work then, but also no luck.. Anyone have any ideas what could be the issue? Because I don't have another cooler to use and ordering a new one would mean I have to wait 3 days, and thus cannot check if it might be some other issue... Here are all of my specs: i7 6700k @ 4.0 GHz ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming ASUS TUF Gaming OC 3080 Corsair H100i V2 AIO cooler Corsair Vengeance 2x8GB 3200Mhz 1x Samsung 970 Evo 500GB 1x Samsung 860 Evo 1TB 1x Seagate Barracuda 2TB Corsair 5000D case I hope someone could help! Would be much appreciated! Thanks, Iwan
  11. So maybe it could work if I bought the 8gb varient of the 2400Hmz C15?
  12. Thanks for your response! Do you think it is worth it to buy 2 new 4gb sticks then, for 20 euros extra so I have quad channel? Or do you think I won't notice a difference without dual channel and I should just save the 20 euros and only buy the one stick?
  13. Hi there, I have been running into memory problems lately trying to play games and was wondering if I could upgrade it without spending too much money. I currently have 2 HyperX Fury 2400Mhz C15 kits in my pc of each 4Gb, for a total of 8Gb. These are ofcourse running in dual channel mode. Now I was wondering if I could buy another 4Gb 2400Mhz C15 stick and add it to the already existing 8Gb and still have the onces in the A2 and B2 slots run in dual channel. I know this is a thing with some motherboards, but couldn't find anything on it for the MSI b250 pc mate. Maybe someone has expierence with this motherboard and could help me out? Would be much appreciated! PC specs: - I5 7400 - MSI B250 PC Mate - 2x4GB Kingston HyperX Fury 2400Mhz - MSI 1050Ti
  14. And in the boot menu it has the third disk on top???
  15. Okay I checked and the weird thing here is that you can see my 3 SATA drives that are connected correctly but not the m.2 (prob. how it should be tho), but at the boot priority there are only 2 disks, the m.2 disk and my shitty 300gb hard drive. Where are the other 2 disks? I know it doesn't really matter as long as the m.2 is there. But im still curious.
