Something people forget is fan noise doesn't increase with fan speed in a linear way. Usually, fans run very quiet until a certain rpm point. Then the noise starts to pick up, and increases exponentially. So running many fans at lower rpm is actually much quieter than running one or two fans at higher speed. The key for a quiet PC is to run many fans at low speed with good air flow paths.

Think in this way. The GPU requires a stable 12v. While a good quality power supply will provide solid 12v all the time no matter what. A cheapy PSU will drop the 12v rail to 11.3v(for example) under heavy load. Then you see the game, or the PC crash. Does it make it easier to understand?

IDK, my experience with Adobe products tells me that it is very poorly optimized for... anything, basically.

Hell, the reason why 10-bit is even such a big deal in Nvidia-land is the fact that Adobe refuses to upgrade their APIs from OpenGL, where 10bit is locked to Quadros, to DirectX and Vulkan, where 10bit is supported on GeForce line

Deli reacted to leadeater in Nvidia Sold $175 Million Worth of GeForce RTX 30 GPUs To Crypto Miners
I think it's a collective of all you mentioned converging at the same time. You have people feeling that a GPU upgrade is now actually warranted, GTX 10 series was actually extremely successful but sales spread out much wider. Monitor technology has actually started to progress again last few years which is factoring in to people wanting to upgrade to now be able to drive that new purchase. Personally existing gamers I do not think are influenced that much at all by the pandemic, RTX 30 series just felt good enough people want it. However I do think a lot more people are getting in to gaming due to the pandemic so the market itself has grown.

So I think it's a combination of both GTX 900 series and GTX 10 series owners trying to purchase at the same time, those who do every second or so generation largely did not buy in to RTX 20 series, along with the market growing reasonably significantly and everyone looking to buy right now as there is nothing better to do.

Every recent GPU release has gotten higher demand each time, that's at least a consistent trend. But we can also look over at the CPU demand issue to know that the market as a whole is growing, even before Ryzen Intel was having CPU supply shortages.

Human observation is a fickle thing, we tend to notice problems and not notice things when they are not or are building up to one. I'll be very interested to see the next 2 quarterly reports from Nvidia and AMD, both for the GPU revenue and AMD for the CPU revenue. I think this will tell a very interesting and enlightening story. What I want to know, I'll certainly forget to check it, is GPU sales figures for GTX 10 series vs RTX 30 series once 30 series gets replaced. Only then will we know just how much bigger the demand/market actually was/is right now.

Yeah. I dunno. You can either return it, sell it or use it. I would the latter because I'm lazy like that. You'll just have to weigh the pros and cons of your options. You can have 35% more performance now or with some hassle a bit more than that later.

That's disappointing to see. Nvidia's low stock levels handed AMD a great opportunity to steal some of Nvidia's customers away but seems like AMD fumbled. AMD already did the hard work of designing a competitive product all they needed to do was get stock on shelves.

If this is how poor stock levels of the 6800/6800XT are then there's really not much hope for the upcoming 6900XT launch.

It's now a race to see who can get stock on shelves first; Nvidia with Samsung's supposedly poor 8nm yields or AMD who is stuck pumping out silicon for the consoles to meet their demand. I can see Nvidia working things out in the next few months, Samsung improving yields, maybe even releasing a Super variant of cards that are a cut down version of the bigger chips which they can get better yields of to help supply. The problem I see for AMD is I don't see the demand for the consoles dropping at all over the next few months and I'm not sure what moves AMD can pull here to get product on shelves.

Hopefully at least one of them can get stock on shelves soon. People have computers to build.

Wow, I can't believe they managed to have even less stock than Nvidia, I thought they'd at least match them. What an embarrassment.

Related: AMD needs to clean house at Radeon's marketing department already. "It won't be a paper lunch :)" is on the same level as "Poor Volta", these clowns in the marketing department are masters at owning themselves. Their head of marketing, Frank Azor, going on Twitter and bragging about getting an 6800 XT on launch day was profoundly tone deaf too.

Well, I guess I could. I'm not entirely sure what I would do with the Meshify C Mini.

Right now I'm just hoping that either the new A14 fans are sufficient to keep the card cool, or that I can get a good AIB card with a beefy cooler that makes it work better. But we'll see. I might also try popping out the PCI slot blanks on the case to see if that improves airflow enough to cool off the temps.

I have a pair of these but found the cushion to be rather too hard on my head, the clamping force of the X2HR is very strong, i found some £11:99 ones off Ebay from China and they are far better.

I had some SHP 9500's from Phillips, these are a step up in every way if you want comfort, their sound is very good too and not a really expensive set of headphones either.
I use these for listening to music, unlike other headphones these are much more forgiving with bad source material whilst also producing a very good sound that is rich in detail.

You can do better but not near the price these sell for.
