Has anyone ever experienced a slow laggy response times (up to a minute) when trying to use random apps on your phone while connected to your home WiFi? I've had this annoyance while trying to use apps like Ring, Fedex, UPS, and Twitter. The odd thing about this though is when I disconnect from my home WiFi and switch to mobile data, these same apps now are responsive and connect immediately to the internet without delays. My download speed at home (which I've checked numerous times) is about 300 to 400 Mbps while on home WiFi. What would cause this and is there a work around? I'd hate to buy a new wireless router only to find out it fixes nothing. I have a Linksys WRT 1900 ACS connected to a Motorola MB8611 cable modem. I've been dealing with this annoyance for the past year or so as best I recall. I began noticing this as far back as when I had a Samsung Galaxy S7 and currently I'm using a Galaxy S20. I also know its not specific to my phone because even my laptop and home PC experience similar issues when connecting to the windows 10 version of the Ring app (long delays before connecting.

For the past several months I've been hanging onto this old 2 TB SATA mechanical hard drive that I'm finally ready to let go of and switch to an SSD. It's primary use will just be as a secondary drive to hold photos and video. What I'm stuck on is the Samsung 860 Evo 2TB has a rated write life of 1200 TBW for about $279 which sounds ok to me pricewise. The Samsung 860 Pro 2TB however is rated at 2400 TBW but costs $469(!!!). Is the extra money even worth buying a 860 Pro or would the average user not come close to the end of write life for a 1200 TBW drive? My current boot drive is a Sabrent Rocket NVMe 4.0 with a write life of 3600 TBW and costs less 860 pro but I'm hesitating buying a second NVMe drive because it would sit directly beneath my graphics card which is blowing heat 12 to 15 hours a day because I'm running Folding @ Home almost everyday of the week. I guess my ultimate question is, how much TBW write life is considered to be too little versus overkill? I just have my NVMe drive as a reference point to compare to and I don't swap out my computer hardware very often so I intend to install the SSD and leave it there for the foreseeable future (next 5 to 8 years?).

I have an MSi GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming X graphics card in my PC I recently built but I've been confused about which type of card layout I have (open-air vs blower?). The reason I wonder this is because I don't know where the exhaust of GPU is being blown towards. Does the GPU on my card shoot heat exhaust outward towards the PCIe slots (there looks like a vent there sort of) are or do the GPU fans just spin and circulate hot air inside my case in an effort to bring temps down? I guess that will be plan as I feel I've exhausted any other viable options: relocate the front mounted case fans to the top of the case to exhaust warm air out. Front mount the radiator and fans to intake fresh air close off case with supplied nylon case filters ?

So if I mount the radiator and radiator fans to the front of my case, the setup should now be to pull air into the case instead of expelling it out?

I might just have to take this route in the end: I can't find a video showing the radiator sitting horizontally inside a Fractal R6 case with RAM already installed.

I don't understand either. I literally mocked this up so many times but couldn't align the mounting screws to the top of the case without my RAM getting crushed downward. I even unscrewed and setup the inside of the case to have an open layout and I couldn't fit the radiator and fans inside without clearing the RAM. I fought this for 2 days before I finally mounted it outside. I have an MSI X570 Unify motherboard if that may be a reason why I'm having so much difficulty with this. I'm pretty stumped with this.

So a few days ago I "finished" putting together my first new PC build in 10 years+(?) and the recommendations I saw across the board all suggested I should pair my Ryzen 3950x with an AIO cooler. Going with AIO cooler is something I have never done before until this build but to my dismay I couldn't figure out a sensible way to fit my Arctic Liquid Freezer II 240 inside of my Fractal Design Define R6 case. There was an example video floating around that I saw showing a 3 fan AIO can fit inside the same case I chose but in practice results may vary I guess. In my situation the radiator + fans are making contact or just plain pushing down against the top side of my 32 GB of RAM (glowing in blue in the photo) and also a metal block on the motherboard (maybe the VRM or something). No matter how many times I tried to fit it on the top side of the case but still attempting to keep everything inside, there just is not enough clearance to do this. Maybe if there was at least one extra centimeter or 2 I could have fit the radiator and fans inside. In the interim the only thing I could think of was to remove the top from the case and mount the radiator and fans outside with fans pulling air out and away from the radiator but this leaves the top side of my computer exposed to dust and anything in general and is just plain janky looking. Would it be a better idea to mount the radiator and radiator fans vertically as opposed to horizontally the way I have it now? The front of the case appears to have room to do so but I'd have to unscrew and relocate the front case fans and maybe move them to the top of the case but I don't know if the move is worth it or there's a better way to go about this. ?

due to a "licensing" issue

The reason I'm not entirely onboard about going through steam is because I have an Nvidia shield and bought the game through their online platform and that shit wouldn't even play.

So does steam it install the game to my PC or does it only allow me access through their online portal?

I'm not entirely sure what steam is. I only wanted the stand alone game is all but I don't see it anywhere on the id software website. ?

So for longest time I've had an under powered desktop that could hardly render most (or all) first person shooter games without me having to lower the graphics settings to the bare minimum (which even at that it was awful to play through) so I never played any games on my old computer. I just built a desktop with an AMD 3950x CPU with an Nvidia 1660 Super graphics card a few days ago and wanted to play Doom 3 since my old machine couldn't do it. I know I'm almost 10 years too late but I came across this strange article and it mentions Doom 3 source code is free to all but it links me to Github but that's as far as I can even get. How do I install the game to my new desktop (assuming its free to everyone now)? Is the Github link for compiling and editing the game? I just want to install and play the original Doom 3 .

Just as a side note, I don't plan to game much and if I do i'm perfectly fine with whatever resolution my Samsung monitor can spit out (1080P max I guess?) but I'd like to be able to use my Dell monitor too but don't know which DisplayPort to DVI adapter I need to buy.

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 2493HM and my secondary (work) monitor is a Dell 1905FP. I mainly use the Dell when I work from home and need multiple monitors and I got it free at work since they were going to other was donate or trash it for newer equipment.

So my graphics card has 3 DisplayPorts and one HDMI out but my main monitors don't support DisplayPort. I was digging around trying to find an adapter when I came across a detail I am unsure if it applies to me or not. I see there are passive and active DisplayPort to DVI adapters but which one should I buy? I have a MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Super Gaming X graphics card but I have no idea whether or not I'd need to buy a passive or an active adapter to connect my 2 monitors. I know there's a price difference between the two and don't want to spend more on an active DisplayPort to DVI if I don't need to. ?

I went ahead and put in an order for more of the same thermal paste that came with my AIO cooler (Arctic MX-4) to arrive by tomorrow since Thermal Grizzly won't arrive to my home until New Years Eve or as late as February. I'm gonna clean off the sloppy mess off the CPU and have a friend come over to as an extra set of hands to do this correctly and in one shot. The suspense is killing me to fire this beast up ? I haven't switched on my computer at all... yet. Sounds like I will have to clean everything off and try again with an extra set of hands plus I don't have any more thermal paste. I used up the one that came with the cooler argh. I don't want to ruin my CPU either. This is a brand new build.

Just for further clarification, none of the thermal paste got onto the motherboard or anywhere else except onto the AIO contact plate and the CPU only so I'm assuming none of the paste was "lost" or smudged out of place onto somewhere it doesn't belong during my hour long struggle.

So admittedly I copied a little bit of what Stephen Burke (from Gamer's Nexus) did and bought the same Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280 for my AMD Ryzen 3950x. The problem I encountered though is the hoses going from the radiator / fans assembly to the AIO contact plate was like trying to mount a CPU cooler attached to high tension springs because I had a hell of a time trying to properly orient the screw holes on the contact plate to the motherboard and somehow screw everything into place with no help in one shot (ideally) which I failed miserably at. What ended up happening after I put a nice pea size amount of thermal paste over the CPU was I tried to sit the AIO contact plate on top of the CPU but it moved out of place 5 to 10 times on its own due to the tension and stiffness of the hoses but I moved it back into place and fought with it for close 30+ minutes before I was able to fasten it into place successfully. Is it bad that the AIO contact plate made contact with CPU cooler and paste, then got detached several times? I always thought once you put on the thermal paste onto the CPU, you sit the cooler on top immediately and you don't mess with it after that but in my case the f#@$king contact plate kept moving out of place before I could screw it in ??. Each time the AIO contact plate moved however I could see the thermal paste did make good coverage on the CPU (not too much, not too little) but it just got sloppier each time the contact plate detached. Should I be worried and clean off all thermal paste and start over?

I literally watched this processor like a hawk but gave up after couple hundred page refreshes yesterday morning. I went to a doctor's appointment to get some blood work and right as the needle as jammed into my forearm, I heard my phone buzzing in my pocket but I waited 15 minutes to see what my phone was alerting me about and it was because at 9 am CST Amazon finally had the 3950X available to sell but it sold out in less than 15 minutes. I was so angry lol ??.I did decide to check ebay not long after and sure enough there were assholes on there selling the same processor for at least $1000. They are not getting my money and I'd rather wait till they are back in stock ?

Yea I forgot the PSU but wouldn't *any* be pretty OK? ? The GPU I'm not married to anything. I'll check out the Vega 56. I'm prob not gonna game much but I'm open to doing some gaming.
