    System is is targeted for:

    1. System will be on for 16 hours a day (ish)
    2. Work station for Adobe Creative suite and various programming tools (I live between photoshop / Illustrator / Ultraedit / Notepad++ / Aptana / FlashBuilder etc)
    3. Server - From time to time depending on my work I will be running either wamp and iis, grinding out database listing formatting or db tasks etc, but it will be duel booting into ubuntu for easy linux access which will have apache and mysql installed also
    4. In the evenings it will be games, dvd/blue ray playback and IT R&D
    5. Will be powering 3 screens 2x1080p and 1x2560x1699 (only gaming on 1 x 1080p however)

Skywell is the tock in intels tick tock release of processors, it will blow haswell-e out of the water and ddr4 prices should be a lot lower then too.

My main goal is to max out game setting for an oculus rift (that hopefully has a 4k AMOLED screen or something similar in it).

And I wouldn't buy a PC monitor that is 4K, or these tiny letter box screens (I don't want to go back to sitting 2cm away from the screen), it will have to be a 4K TV at 40" and about 20ms / 144HZ low latency (about a year away). I sit about 3 or 3.5 ft away from my screens (30" dell on left, 40" samsung tv 1080p center and 40" 1080p samsung tv to right). It's perfect, I never want to have to sit about 2cm away from a pc monitor again and a 40" 4K @4ms or 144HZ would be even more YES YES YES   I can hardly read the text on my dell 30" from 3ft away, it's turned off most of the time ( £1,000 monitor)! Imagine what a 4K screen would be like? It would just be unreadable and a waste.

If it might help you at all, I have been holding out on building a new rig for about a year now, and was scheduling it for the 880 aka 980 release. But after seeing what was released, I voted against it. This is why:

    1. 980 is just a 780ti (yes I know all the differences but actual performance benchmarks so far show it to be nothing special in comparison)
    2. 980 & 780ti dont power 4k @60FPS constants at the moment, I want a single card that can at least get close
    3. 3GHz forced to overclock to 4!! Come on intel, just do it for us!
    4. DDR4 ram at 400% price cost! WTF

So my upgrade projection is this:

    Q4 2015 - Price £2000 to £3000
    1. Skylake (flagship chip)
    2. Best mid to high range mobo
    3. PSU I already listed above
    4. Estimated GTX1080 which should be on new nm process and show an actual improvement from the 780ti
    5. Max out ram, normal speeds, it doesn't affect pc speeds anyway same with DDR3 vs DDR4 don't (not to the human eye)
    6. The oculus rift

    1. For a screen then check LG Flattron (non curved one if your that close - it says 34" but its the same height as a 27.5" monitor)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MO-106-LG&groupid=17&catid=1120

    2. If pice is no limit then get the CPU you wanted and over clock that with the asus software automatically to 4Ghz

    3. I would still recommend the same case from NXZT just the smaller version

    4. DDR4 only on these machines yep, but if price no limit then go for 64GB (I max out 16GB quite easily with UE4 editor, visual studio, photoshop and CubeMap tools open)

Just one thing, hold back about 3 months on graphics card purchase if your interested in the 980... There are rumors of a 990 and possibly a 980ti coming out... But these are just rumors...
    980 = 780ti - 5fps typically.

    1. Don't get a 4K screen (not worth it and graphics cards are not ready for it and only if you have better than 40:40 vision) Check out:

Personally I would go with a 36" or 40" - 1080p TV from Samsung or LG (make sure has low response times)

AND avoid 3D on both PC and TV. It's just shait.

    2. 32GB of ram will do fine, 64 is the cost of a new low/mid range PC!
Also note DDR4 ram is no better than DDR3

    3. PSU - You want 850W to 1000W - I'm about to buy:
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-019-SF

    4. CPU - I would go for the 5930K and overclock to 4Ghz (your asus motherboard software will do that for you automatically)
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-548-IN
Only get the one you want if you do lots of cad, 3d, video editing work

    5. CPU Cooler - NZXT Kraken X61 AIO
    http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=HS-014-NX

    6. The NZXT case your looking at is HUGE and I mean massive, get one of the other ones if you want a pc that doesn't fill the whole room

So... My machine is not loving the heat or humidity this summer... It's only 25c in the room, but my Radion HD 68 series card is running an average of 102c (and yes, fans are clean). So I thought time to do something about that:

    Step 1. Remove side panel
Step 2. Plug in 18" floor fan
Step 3. Place 18" floor fan as close as possible pointing directly into the case
Step 4. Run a demanding game, crank the settings up and set floor fan on max

    Results:
Temperatures went from 102/103c to low 80s

It might be a little noisy but hey, it's game on!

    UPDATE 21/07/14

Well I had enough of the floor fan in the machine so I decided to get into things and see what was the problem as it wasn't like this last summer, here's what I found:

    1. Ripped out the GFX card
    2. On first inspection, clean as a whistle (as I had already given the fans and heatsink a quick brush at the start of the month (but case was on))
    3. Took casing off the card, few clumps of hardened dust fell out (corner gatherings etc)
    4. Took a clean paint brush and started ramming it into the heat sink, then air dustered it, a bit of dust came out but not that much
    5. Made sure everything was secure, tight and looking good
    6. Put it all back to together and in the machine

Room temperature 25.5c desktop temp with Chrome running editing this 60c / 61c
Room temperature 25.5c running mmo on medium high settings for past 4 hours 86c to 90c

So looks like either something wasn't secure or that little bit of dust which I wouldn't normally be concerned about was the cause. I'm going to go with something not being secure, nowhere near enough dust in heat sink to cause +15c / +18c

Me: Which web browser are you using?

Me: If you look at the top left of the window you typed the web address into, your should see the name or have a logo/icon, let me know what you see.

    Client: MS Word

Was hired to build a secure web application for a very well known world renowned company (names will not be mentioned)...

4 to 6 weeks later we were showing where we were at, how it works etc.

Me: Ok if you type in www.xxxxxxxx.com and log in

    Client: ok. done

Me: I start to talk about the login, security etc

Client: I can't see anything it's just a blank page

Me: Tested all the browsers, remote connected to home pc and tested connection and from a work server and all was fine. Asked the client to close all programs and try visiting the website again.

    Client: Nope it's still blank

I got to mention this one also...

Friend of mine built a rig, it wouldn't boot... Asked me to come over and have a look....
I took the side off, and I said to him, "Errr Where's your CPU?"
"Where does that go? But how do I mount this fan on the case?" (The cpu fan!)

    cringe...

    Hi,

Well, for fun, let's all take the chance to laugh at ourselves and let others laugh at us too

Soo... What can we make ourselves cringe with?

What is the worst thing you have ever done when building your own pc?
Back in the learning days or even the here and now and just having your mind on other things, tell all

    For me....
When I was the noob of noobs and didn't even know what MMO meant I was assembling one of my 1st PCs and while I was mounting the CPU cooler, I just didn't quite take the time to look or understand how the pins worked. So in good old fasioned brute FORCE! PUSH EM THROUGH! Snap 1, Job done Snap 2, Job done Snap 3 Job done EASY THIS!, Snap 4 job done   ......eerrr..... ooo.....fff..... hang on........ This thing is just falling back out.. Oh fek... I snapped the plastic clips.... wtf!    Ah had to rotate them from the clipped possition before pushing them through the mobo.... DOH!

    Doh!

    PS.
While working in LG Electronics (part of the team that brought the 1st iMac's to the UK), I saw a Korean worker stick his screw driver in the anode cap of the CRT in the old iMac. I've never seen lightening indoors before. Blue flash, circles of brighter flashes, big crack and bang sound and sends him flying 15ft on the factory floor. After about 1 minute of everyone not moving in shock, he gets to his knees, shakes his head, grabs his screw driver and straight back in there! WTF!!!!! lol
