First impression I noticed from the video is the very noticeable marks on Linus's face.   This is going to be a thing for people who wear that thing a lot and who are of a more fair complexion.   Most will want to cover it up.  Some will want to show it off.... others may try to simulate that tan like like yeah I totally have  3500 USD to blow on it.  See this tanline.

As for the ending the real issue with Vison pro was stated masterfully. I wont spoil it

If these  AR glasses were made by a bigger company, like Samsung. https://us.shop.xreal.com/products/xreal-air-2-ultra  and costed 699 that would be your Vison pro killer.  699 is what my new prescription glasses cost.  If I wouldn't need to then also shell out for prescription lenses I'd just order those, then upgrade my trusty Note 20 to an S23 to get spatial computing.     This way I could see the real world with real light and my real eyes and also have my apps if I need them.

TLDR Great video.  Vision pro is hopefully more like a Dev kit for eventually VR/AR glasses for the masses.

I think this is awful! No one in their right mind is gonna go for this! Heck Apple doesn't even do this! I really don't understand what Microsoft's problem is. They're racking in enough money as it is right now, why they deem this necessary is beyond me. Not only that, but streamers, gamers, content creators, and media/audio/video people like me can't afford this but I also can't switch to Linux because a great majority of my software requires the use of Windows. I'm so sick of Microsoft and the shit they're trying to pull. But I hope this is false and not actually true.

Hi in the year 2023, Twitter lost a tremendous amount of importance, it was also heavily criticized by Luke and Linus for it actions and policies.
Can we at least stop using Twitter for necessary messages or Giveaways? People who do not have an account on Twitter get locked out of the LTT Verse.

I lost some respect for GN Steve, though I never was into GN’s long format videos (I just don’t have the time to watch 45+ minute YT videos regularly) I understand there is a market for GN’s kind of videos.

Though there were claims GN levied against LMG that were valid, I felt the tenor of Steve’s videos seemed like them trying to slap at LMG and cause them harm. I’m guessing GN is a bit concerned and upset that LMG is crowding out the audience for other tech YouTubers, like GN, just because of the size of modern LMG, as well as the fact that now LTT Labs is a direct competitor to GN.

I realized GN’s videos against LMG’s practices were not from an impartial journalist (the way Steve wants to portray himself), but of a competitor to LMG who would like to knock LMG down for the benefit of GN. I understand GN competing with LMG, that’s capitalism. But, Steve lobbed all of his angry complaints at LMG which activated the angry hoard on the internet. Then Steve stepped back and watched things burn and LMG staff got unfairly verbally harassed while GN financially gained subscribers and views. This was all while people were praising Steve as having “journalistic integrity.” It all just seemed disingenuous and pedantic.

Of course Steve pulled the newest video because he realized people are onto his game and see GN’s conflicts of interests in the matter. I went ahead and set my YouTube Premium account to not recommend GN’s videos; I don’t need disingenuous and pedantic YouTubers with such an attitude clogging my recommendation feed. I’m happy to continue with Paul’s Hardware, JayzTwoCents and Bitwit along with LMG, etc. for PC focused content.

    - Floatplane subscribers have been asking for this style of content for a while.
    - Do you have a better alternative?
    - I felt it added a bit of humor to an overly negative video, but that's subjective.

I watch pretty much every video uploaded by GN and LMG. GN is mostly for reviews and LMG is mostly for entertainment. There is plenty of crossover with news etc. but that's the main categories, for me anyway.

My (totally parasocial) take is that Linus and Steve's relationship fully broke down during their public dispute over 3070ti pricing a few years back. I'm sure the subsequent ramping up of the LTT lab and such things as the PSU tester didn't help the relationship either.
During the "trust me bro" debacle, Steve announced he had decided to review LMG content and products differently and hold them to a higher standard. I'm not sure what the threshold was, earnings, employees or maybe a gut feeling, but it was certainly self-imposed by Steve.

Just to be clear, I feel Linus handled "trust me bro" terribly. To this day, he suggests that even those who didn't know him or the company were basically stupid if they couldn't deduce they were covered. I don't know if it's manipulation or if he genuinely believes it, either way it was handled very badly.

I also believe GN's handling of their recent recall was bad. It was more of a pat on the back and showcase on how well they handled it rather than cold hard facts. Ironic when you think how much Steve hates other companies marketing. The whole video didn't even make it clear if a refund was available. Sticker and a pin? I also think an incorrect wiring diagram can potentially do a lot more damage than a faulty zip puller. I can't find the video now either, has it been pulled?

Anyway, there are many valid points made in the video. Also, some very serious allegations (Billet Labs) that will need to be addressed and (unlike many others here) I'll decide after hearing the other side of the story. Unfortunately, there is also plenty of supposition from Steve. Assumptions about sponsor relationships and employee ties to previous companies. Company valuations etc. that are not offered for any other YT channel reviews. In fact, GN don't review other channels or more accurately; they don't review competitors at all, except for LMG.

I also really hate the way Steve cuts in the reactions of Luke. This was done during "trust me bro" too... "you can see Luke agrees". How does he know what he's thinking, it's pretty poor journalism and seems like petty playground behaviour. I think Steve's bias is showing and there is far more opinion, speculation, and sensationism than any previous topic they have covered.

I hate to break it to you, but all tech journalism has plenty of factual errors, especially those that go for the video format. To avoid falling into the what-aboutism category, let me just say that as someone who works in related industries, GN has plenty of bad takes as well, the difference being that they're not nearly as good about going "my bad". LTT doesn't get needlessly defensive over the fact that they make errors, and they often include the bad takes in videos with corrections, which I appreciate because it does tend to show the initial genuine reaction - something which is useful for myself as someone that's tangentially related with product design on various occasions. This is far more useful than a boring line that might get missed from my point of view.

I would imagine it's actually more than 500 USD, having an actual person with some training and a college/university degree work in a building tends to cost around $90-100 an hour. So you need someone doing the work, someone on the camera, someone doing sound, and preferably some sort of director present, so the shoot alone would probably end up costing around $2000, if you then need to manufacture a new mounting bracket, etc. you could easily lose an entire day and now you're looking at somewhere around $4000 to $5000. It also doesn't account for the fact that you might have a deal with sponsors that require the video to come out on a certain date, availability of working and recording spaces, etc.; which is to say that I understand not wanting to do another take. But it's indicative of general communication problems between billet labs and LTT, which compounds further with the block being sold at auction. The real question is how they respond after the screw up becomes known. I experienced this type of communication breakdown at both small start-ups and multi-billion dollar corporations, so I can totally see it happening at LTT as well.

Accuracy of information is actually my main grievance with Gamers Nexus. Every time they dove into electronics manufacturing I just cringed and wanted to start bashing my head on my desk to make it stop.

Asking the manufacturer for input when you have unexpected results is quite desirable when dealing with complex and new products, it's quite possible a single setting could make all the difference in the world. I just wish this would be done consistently across all products if unexpected results pop up.

I wouldn't be surprised if the recent increase in error rate is caused by the large volume intake of new employees.

There won't be a big WAN Show segment about this or anything. Most of what I have to say, I've already said, and I've done so privately.

To Steve, I expressed my disappointment that he didn't go through proper journalistic practices in creating this piece. He has my email and number (along with numerous other members of our team) and could have asked me for context that may have proven to be valuable (like the fact that we didn't 'sell' the monoblock, but rather auctioned it for charity due to a miscommunication... AND the fact that while we haven't sent payment yet, we have already agreed to compensate Billet Labs for the cost of their prototype). There are other issues, but I've told him that I won't be drawn into a public sniping match over this and that I'll be continuing to move forward in good faith as part of 'Team Media'. When/if he's ready to do so again I'll be ready.

To my team (and my CEO's team, but realistically I was at the helm for all of these errors, so I need to own it), I stressed the importance of diligence in our work because there are so many eyes on us. We are going through some growing pains - we've been very public about them in the interest of transparency - and it's clear we have some work to do on internal processes and communication. We have already been doing a lot of work internally to clean up our processes, but these things take time. Rome wasn't built in a day, but that's no excuse for sloppiness.

Now, for my community, all I can say is the same things I always say. We know that we're not perfect. We wear our imperfection on our sleeves in the interest of ensuring that we stay accountable to you. But it's sad and unfortunate when this transparency gets warped into a bad thing. The Labs team is hard at work hard creating processes and tools to generate data that will benefit all consumers - a work in progress that is very much not done and that we've communicated needs to be treated as such. Do we have notes under some videos? Yes. Is it because we are striving for transparency/improvement? Yeah... What we're doing hasn't been in many years, if ever.. and we would make a much larger correction if the circumstances merited it. Listing the wrong amount of cache on a table for a CPU review is sloppy, but given that our conclusions are drawn based on our testing, not the spec sheet, it doesn't materially change the recommendation. That doesn't mean these things don't matter. We've set KPIs for our writing/labs team around accuracy, and we are continually installing new checks and balances to ensure that things continue to get better. If you haven't seen the improvement, frankly I wonder if you're really looking for it... The thoroughness that we managed on our last handful of GPU videos is getting really incredible given the limited time we have for these embargoes. I'm REALLY excited about what the future will hold.

With all of that said, I still disagree that the Billet Labs video (not the situation with the return, which I've already addressed above) is an 'accuracy' issue. It's more like I just read the room wrong. We COULD have re-tested it with perfect accuracy, but to do so PROPERLY - accounting for which cases it could be installed in (none) and which radiators it would be plumbed with (again... mystery) would have been impossible... and also didn't affect the conclusion of the video... OR SO I THOUGHT...

I wanted to evaluate it as a product, and as a product, IF it could manage to compete with the temperatures of the highest end blocks on the planet, it still wouldn't make sense to buy... so from my point of view, re-testing it and finding out that yes, it did in fact run cooler made no difference to the conclusion, so it didn't really make a difference.

Adam and I were talking about this today. He advocated for re-testing it regardless of how non-viable it was as a product at the time and I think he expressed really well today why it mattered. It was like making a video about a supercar. It doesn't mater if no one watching will buy it. They just wanna see it rip.  I missed that, but it wasn't because I didn't care about the consumer.. it was because I was so focused on how this product impacted a potential buyer. Either way, clearly my bad, but my intention was never to harm Billet Labs. I specifically called out their incredible machining skills because I wanted to see them create something with a viable market for it and was hoping others would appreciate the fineness of the craftsmanship even if the product was impractical. I still hope they move forward building something else because they obviously have talent and I've watched countless niche water cooling vendors come and go. It's an astonishingly unforgiving market.

Either way, I'm sorry I got the community's priorities mixed-up on this one, and that we didn't show the Billet in the best light. Our intention wasn't to hurt anyone. We wanted no one to buy it (because it's an egregious waste of money no matter what temps it runs at) and we wanted Billet to make something marketable (so they can, y'know, eat).

With all of this in mind, it saddens me how quickly the pitchforks were raised over this. It also comes across a touch hypocritical when some basic due diligence could have helped clarify much of it. I have a LONG history of meeting issues head on and I've never been afraid to answer questions, which lands me in hot water regularly, but helps keep me in tune with my peers and with the community. The only reason I can think of not to ask me is because my honest response might be inconvenient.

We can test that... with this post. Will the "It was a mistake (a bad one, but a mistake) and they're taking care of it" reality manage to have the same reach? Let's see if anyone actually wants to know what happened. I hope so, but it's been disheartening seeing how many people were willing to jump on us here. Believe it or not, I'm a real person and so is the rest of my team. We are trying our best, and if what we were doing was easy, everyone would do it. Today sucks.

    Thanks for reading this.

Just finished the video. Here are my takes:
I thought Steve was very fair when criticizing LTT's sloppiness / inaccuracies / mistakes in recent videos, but this doesn't come as a surprise. I think this is something we all have known for a while now. I do agree that LTT needs to do some long and hard introspection on this topic. I'm somewhat shocked that Steve didn't go into detail about their own testing methodology in response to the tour video I dislike the non so gentle insinuation that LTT staff is biased because their previous employment without any evidence of said bias. I dislike the non so gentle insinuation that LTT is biased of business connections / partnerships / investment without any evidence of said bias I very much dislike the out of context clips from WAN Show while completely failing to represent Linus' viewpoint. Steve did this exact same thing last time he did a critical video of LTT re: Trust Me Bro..  I dislike that Steve fails to mention HIS OWN conflict of interest when criticizing a competitor that is moving into GN's bread and butter.  The Billet Labs situation is possibly the most concerning part for me. I disliked Linus' response to the (honestly god awful) video when it happened. If the rest of the story is true, I don't even know how LTT can rectify the situation for the company. I would recommend @LinusTech respond to this situation immediately, tactfully, and publicly.

Everyone has noticed the errors, even Linus, who mentioned he missed the errors caught by early releases in Vessell. He discussed community moderators and a bug bounty taken out of the LMG team bonus pot.   Linus is clearly ideating before implementing a concrete solution.

The Copper Water Cooler, accusing a company of criminal theft without validation of what happened can be result in legal action.  This is a private conversation, first, then go public.

so.. steve is making a stink over something an LMG employee said, without the context of what they were talking about, and the environment they were talking in...

i feel like there's a strong vibe of "everyone is handling this the wrong way" here...

this is the point where i watch the entire GN video to make sure the above statement is correct...

there's a lot of truth here.. but the general tone of the video seems.. unnecessarily nitpicky and vindictive?

steve ripping on the framework investment being conflict of interest for doing laptop reviews.. is also just unnecessary. linus is aware of the potential conflict of interest, it has been brought up to the community at the time of him considering it, and is mentioned in each laptop review he hosts.
    also this:
is a very important distinction. you cant talk about the budgets of a corporation, and then talk about someone's personal investment as if they are one and the same.

i'm actually at the point where i'm getting annoyed at steve putting far too many out of context quotes into his video. it seems almost purposefully disingenuous on his part to cut things to make them seem worse.. when the full story is already less than favourable.

yes.. LMG makes a lot of mistakes, too many mistakes.. but saying that a "100 million dollar company" should not do this, is just factually inaccurate. that cash does not exist at LMG, and steve knows this. why make this argument if not to purposefully make LMG seem evil, rather than just careless.

it *could* have been a wakeup call for LMG, but instead the entire video just feels like steve going as hard as he can without openly hard cutting his own ties with LMG in case he needs linus to call someone at youtube for him.

actually.. this has been an issue i've had with steve's videos in general. i like steve, i love what he stands for, but every time i bump into a video of his he seems to be unnecessarily vindictive about everything. it's just exhausting at this point. steve's usually right, but he loses so much credibility to me by inflating facts almost into the field of alternative truths... life is crazy enough as it, let's not inflate things any more and try to fix things for once.

PS: a TL:DR here in case someone is gonna pop in to call me an LMG shill.. i 87% agree with steve on the topic, i just also 99% disagree with the way he voices his opinion on said topic.

Hardware Unboxed's response lines up with a general out-of-touch nature I've gotten from many tech channels these days; pretty disappointed with Hardware Unboxed and will probably avoid from now on.

Living in the past and being ignorant to current events is folly, on top of coming off as a delusional "back in my day" perpetrator.

It'd be like a former teacher you had consistently chiming in on threads: "well I don't know what they've been up to recently because I haven't checked or paid attention, but back when I knew them, they made x, y, z mistake, so that sums up things on my end. Classic Lawlz" Or one of your parents highlighting a childhood mistake or bed wetting or something and that being their main contribution to your character.

The past shapes us, but it doesn't necessarily define us. As with most things in life, people change, they grow, they evolve. Watching an LTT video from 10 years ago, to 5 years ago, to the present shows exactly that just like a host of other channels.

There are so many bad takes here that it ain't even funny.

I find it hilarious that you're speaking in favour of statistical validation of measurements, and then use veritasium as source, arguably one of the worst offenders on YouTube when it comes to grossly misrepresenting things in favour of making "wholesome" clickbaity content.

In any case, I don't think what you propose is realistic due to other reasons: there's no actual guarantee that the quantities you're attempting to measure follow a known distribution, unless if you go to very large sample sizes, this is due to the way we tend to bin dies during the manufacturing process. So you'd need to get quite a few devices per manufacturing lot to even stand a chance of getting a statistically meaningful measurement, otherwise the odds are that what you're actually measuring is the variability of your test method.

GN has made plenty of stupid remarks that demonstrate they know jackshit about the electronics industry and power supply design. They got so much wrong in that entire gigabyte PSU saga that it ain't even funny, and when industry folks pointed out that what they were saying was just plain wrong, they just went "no, we know better". Meanwhile, I haven't actually heard anyone from LTT say anything outrageously stupid on video, they know when they're in over their head and don't attempt to represent themselves as experts.

This is particularly hilarious to me, because many electronics books refer to switch mode power supply design as a dark art for those blessed with long grey beards. You need an exceptional understanding on the behaviour of magnetic components, and need to be an absolute wizard at systems theory to design a robust SMPS. In much the same way, actually verifying the unconditional stability and guaranteeing the performance of one of these is neigh on impossible unless if you damn well know what you're doing. The end result is that even companies the likes of Keysight go to TDK when they need a high power PSU, which should tell you something about how bloody difficult it is to actually design and test one of these.

So, from my point of view as an EE, I see the following:
LTT wants to do power supply testing but quickly realises that it's not nearly as easy as folks make it out to be. LTT asks industry contacts for advice on how to test power supplies.  Seasonic tells LTT what they're using, forwards them to Chroma and then helps them specify a system that can outperform what they're using themselves. LTT then actually went to Chroma, which is the absolute gold standard in PSU testing, and asked them for such a system. And knowing Chroma's application engineers, if you tell them you want to absolutely wreck computer power supplies and you want something better than the listed system, they're going to give you exactly that and tell you how to use it. This is literally their core business, it's what made them famous and respected in the industry. Also, do you really think we don't talk to the engineers at our competitors about such things? These folks are often former class mates or colleagues, acquaintances from meeting at industry events, folks you've talked to about articles they wrote, etc. So, if something sketchy were going on, we'd have heard about it by now through the grapevine. Open hostility or trying to screw each other over by adjusting test standards in specific ways, and other such moves, are something that's quite rare within our industry, and I'd be seriously surprised if Seasonic were to do so.

In any case, I hope Tim doesn't take this flak too serious, he made a remark to someone in person in front of a small group of people in response to a direct question, he gave an honest answer from his point of view based on his knowledge at the time, nothing wrong with that.

TL;DR: Tim from engineering at LMG makes an off the cuff comment during an LTX tour attempting to differentiate Labs/LTT from other reviewers, saying that LMG reruns every test for every review where GamersNexus and Hardware Unboxed doesn't. Hardware Unboxed takes exception to this and goes on a 24 hour twitter rant. It's still unclear if Hardware Unboxed reruns every test for every review.

    BACKGROUND

Well, apparently Hardware Unboxed took some exception to this and responded in a series of tweets

They criticized LTT's results and data in videos:

Hardware Unboxed was unclear if they rerun tests for every review, or not

    TIM EXPLAINS HIS COMMENTS

Tim Holowachuk responded in a series of tweets:

In response to Tim recognizing the mistakes in the 4090 and 4080 reviews Hardware Unboxed responded:

    MY OPINION

While I think Tim could have avoided calling other YouTubers / reviewers out by name, I understand that he was attempting to differentiate LTT Labs from the rest of the pack with their testing methodology. It was something said in a small room with a handful of people. The video was uploaded by a fairly small channel and the comment wouldn't have gained much traction otherwise.

As far as Hardware Unboxed response, I view it was utterly unprofessional. They have been tweeting, and are continuing to reply to tweets for over 24 hours now. It's an issue that's been blown way out of proportion on their end and probably should have been handled privately.

With all that it's still unclear to me if Hardware Unboxed gathers new data for each review or not.

That background noise is well over a billion dollars, and many of us would have never got the chance to the hear how they sound like, as they do their magic. It's nice the real noise is used, instead of some boring techno music.

I have the complete opposite view. Sure the sound quality might be better, but in my opinion the video/sound mismatch, sync issues, and loss of natural emotion that come with dubbing would be way more distracting and irritating than a little bit of background noise.

Guess the AIO makers should add little tap somwhere on the loop so that gamers can boil water for their cup noodles while gaming.
