  1. Awesome! Thank you so much for your help. I'll start cross shopping some different sites for the Lenovo Have a nice day!
  2. Thanks for the input! I hadn't even considered warranty, because I've actually never owned a new computer lol. As an aside, after looking at the Gigabyte again, I noticed more I/O on the back that isn't listed - an HDMI, wired internet, and a thunderbolt it looks like, which brings it up to par to the Legion, for me anyway. aside from aesthetics, is there any reason to go for the Lenovo over the Gigabyte? Their specs are very similar, except for the Lenovo being one CPU gen ahead, and the Gigabyte being 0.1GHz faster... That looks like a nice machine! But I think I'm gonna try and use all $1000 to get the fastest PC possible. Suffice it to say that if I save more than that, I don't get to keep those $$ so I want to get the best laptop possible. Though I'll poke around the site and see if there is something that fits that criteria Thank you
  3. A few options I've found... thoughts? https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16834233534?Item=9SIATEFJBX4580 Gigabyte. $999, 3060, Ryzen 5 5600H. I/O is not great but is acceptable https://www.newegg.com/p/2WC-000N-0B1S7?Item=9SIA7ABJHN1169 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14. My favorite laptop of the lineup, but it's open box and I can't find a more reputable seller. Ryzen 7 5800H, 3060, Good I/O. https://www.newegg.com/p/2WC-000J-01XE9?quicklink=true Lenovo Legion 5. Ryzen 5 6600 - fastest clock but less cores than the Zephyrus. 3060, great I/O. Price is much higher than I'd like... but within feasibility I'm leaning towards the Legion or the Gigabyte. Legion is definitely the one I want but is significantly more expensive. I really like the Zephyrus, but I'm not sure I want a 3rd party refurbished laptop.
  4. I don't really care too much, maybe 13"-16"? My current laptop is 16.5 and *barely* fits in my backpack. That's my only real requirement on that lol Is this what you were talking about? It looks like a nice option - Ryzen 7 5800H, RTX 3060, 16 gigs of RAM... https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B986B2N7/ref=ewc_pr_img_1?smid=A3MUHYPYV02A8E&psc=1 I am a little concerned by the mention of "open box" in the description... Thanks for the info! Will look into it right now, Sorry for another dumb question... Where the hell do I even buy a laptop? Amazon is a disaster of bad listings, B&H and Microcenter have little selection, and Newegg seems to have customer service issues... Thanks again
  5. Hi, I'm looking to buy a Windows laptop and I've realized I have no clue what to look for. If you dudes could help me out with this I would really appreciate it. Note that I have no brand loyalty, Intel, AMD Nvidia whatever. Requirements: -budget is $1000, could probably stretch slightly but not much. -I am buying this computer to run Fusion 360. that is the only hard requirement. However, I'd also like it to run games if that is realistic. Some examples of what I play/want to play would be Portal, Minecraft (with shaders), Forza Horizon/Motorsport, etc... I'm certain there are more, but I haven't followed new games much because my current PC can barely run vanilla MC lol. -I'd like for this PC to be a usable machine for a long time... by computer standards anyways. Though once again that may not be realistic in the budget. -decent I/O... This would be satisfied by a few USB-C/Thunderbolt ports, and one or two USB-A for my mouse. More is always welcome but not required. Wants: -decent battery life (though I am rarely using my laptop away from an outlet so not a big concern) -a decent keyboard. I'll usually use this machine at my desk with a seperate keyboard and display, so it isn't a big concern, but if it wasn't horrific that would be nice. -a decent display. See above. I care even less about this than the keyboard. -good build quality. It doesn't have to be exceptional or anything (I'm not buying a Mac here) but I've only ever owned super cheap laptops, so the better build would be a nice change of pace. But it's a pretty minor concern. -serviceability... I don't expect to swap CPUs or GPUs obviously, but socketed RAM and replaceable batteries would be awesome. Don't care/don't want: -Don't care about RGB or super fancy design. If it has it, great, but I don't want to pay more for it lol. Only exception is if I can't program the RGB to stay a single color. -Absolute cutting edge hardware. I'd rather buy last gen and get more performance for my $$ than pay for the latest and greatest but get worse performance in the end. -RTX. I feel like that's a given in this budget though. -I don't care about how thick or heavy it is, but Any bigger than 16-17" won't fit in my backpack lol. I'm not completely closed off to the idea of a desktop, prebuilt or custom, if that would save me significant $$. If y'all have specific recommendations that is great, and just a general idea of what specs to look for is great too. Thank you so much! -Micah
  6. But how legit are these copies? I'd assume they are pirated, so I'd rather pay full price for a real copy. And I am planning on 16 gigs of RAM in this system.
  7. That was my thought on the AM4, it seems like everything but ThreadRipper uses it, so I'd be golden for upgrading. Thanks, I'll check out those boards! I see why you don't like the TUF... that thing does not compare well. Should I plan to OC my CPU? At the moment I'll only be using the stock cooler, and I may (or may not; you never know) upgrade to an NZXT Kraken down the line. I'll check that one out as well! Thanks for all your help. Micah
  8. OK, good to know. I have compiled my list of components (I think...) NZXT H500 White AMD Ryzen 5 1600 ASRock B450M PRO4 MSI GeForce GTX 1660 Ti 6GB Corsair TX550M Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB and some Corsair SP120 quiet fans for good measure. Thank you all so much for your help! This is a very welcoming community, and I'll probably stick around. I'll also update this thread when the build is done! Micah
  9. Well, I've never actually played CS:GO, It just looks like a really fun game to me. Why would Intel be better for that game? Ok. I may grab one of those instead then... what would be an AMD title? and can I assume there are Nvidia titles as well? I like the looks of this as well! Thanks so much, guys. I'm coming from a nearly dead audio forum, I've never seen this many posts in under fifteen minutes before! lol
  10. This looks good as well. I don't know anything about Radeon cards, Should I get one of them instead? That's good to hear. Really? cool. I always assumed a PC would suck up more power than that.
  11. As soon as I finish saving (I've already got $80 in a week, and if somehow I don't make it before July, I'll be turning 16 and can get a job.) So the new gen of Ryzen chips is a different size? meaning that it won't be compatible with the AM4 socket? I was hoping I'd be able to upgrade things down the line without changing core components, but that may not be the case... Looks nice! I should mention I already have a SSD and hard drive from my old computer (456 Gig and 1TB, respectively). I want to stick with the NZXT case, because as much as I want the best performance, it's gotta look good, and the NZXT looks really nice. This also looks good! Like I said before, I can drop the SSD/HDD, and get the NZXT case, and I didn't realize Gigabyte had a 1660 at $220! Is that 550 watt PSU gonna be enough? It seems like a small amount of power, but what do I know. Thanks again.
  12. Thanks! I wanted to cut $$ without removing something that would directly affect performance, and I may upgrade it down the line. Around $650, or maybe a little more. but the more it is the longer I have to save. Yes, Florida. Should've included that! Thanks guys.
  13. Hey y'all, I'm new here. :) I am sorry if this is the wrong subforum... I am building a gaming computer (that isn't only going to be used for gaming) for the first time. I've done a lot of research and know how I'll put it together, what everything is and what it does, etc. I'm not nervous about that part of the build, but I am slightly worried I am creating a bottleneck. The computer is probably going to be playing FortNite, CS:GO, Rocket League, OverWatch, and maybe some racing games down the line. I want to try Linux because I built my $650 computer and then Windows just about made me crap my pants (totally forgot I had to pay for it! ugh.) Other than gaming, it'll be used for school and internet browsing, YouTube, that kind of stuff. nothing too demanding. I'll also only need 1080 @60hz, as that is what my monitor supports. So here is what I'm looking at for hardware: Zotac Nvidia GTX 1060 6G (I know this is a previous generation card, but you can still buy them new all over the place, and they are much cheaper.) AMD Ryzen 5 1600 w/ stock cooler (once again, I know this is previous gen, but it is $70 cheaper and only drops 0.2 GHz to the new processors.) ASUS TUF B450M-PLUS motherboard G-Skill Ripjaws V RAM (2x8GB, 2400hz) Corsair CX650M PSU so do y'all think I'll have a bottleneck? And if anyone cares, I'll be using the NZXT H500 case, along with some Corsair fans. I may also upgrade the CPU cooler to an NZXT Kraken later down the line. Thanks in advance! Micah
