Baryn got a reaction from Ben17 in Restoring warped copper charging contacts?
As it turns out, my assumptions about this problem were totally wrong.  My contacts weren't terribly damaged, only slightly scored.  The reason I perceived the contacts as the problem was because the earbuds were turning on while charging, which shouldn't happen.

The REAL problem was that little magnets stored in the underside of the buds' "cradle" had come ajar from dropping the case numerous times.  Still a design flaw, but a pretty easy one to fix quickly!

Can't believe I'm saying this, but: thanks, Reddit!

My true-wireless earbuds seem to have a glaring design flaw that has only become apparent a year later - their copper charging contacts have become a little bent from the pressure of being pushed into their charging case over and over.  I've tried the usual iso alcohol on a cotton swab, but the metal itself is slightly warped, so it's only of little help.

Any protips for this issue?  Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

The best cables I've ever had are those magnetic ones, I don't currently have a phone/tablet with a type C connector, everything is still micro.  So I picked up a couple of cables with the magnetic tips... those sit in my phone/tablet and never need to be removed, prolonging the life of the socket and the cable as it no longer gets kinked are moved around.

I paid around £10 for a pair, one sits in my home office and the other in my car... I got some for my mum too as she'd had multiple failures... one of which shorted out and damaged 2 tablets.

I prefer something that will last several years, and under my use, my cables tend to last for years. Soon as my sibling and Dad get ahold of them though, lifespan drops to about a month... Maybe...

This is with Micro-B. USB-C seems to show somewhat faster wear on the cable end, though the biggest pain is the lint getting inside the port ifself and being a PITFA to clean out.

I haven't really had a problem with packed-in cables, but I am a little concerned over the one that came with my S10+ for feeling a bit flimsy.

In my experience, buying multiple cheap cables has been cheaper than buying a few really good ones anyway.

I've had good luck with Amazon USB-C cables. I have a Micro-B to USB-C cable for my external USB HDD. Cable is very thick and feels sturdy. I bought some lighting cables from them, they are pretty cheap but they still work (barely). Once they break I'll buy another for less than $6 probably.

I've never heard it being called a meme but I've been cautious of what the real deals are because of this PSA by Hardware Canucks:

Honestly, I just bought my new PC today, I've been waiting for the past 2 weeks or so for Prime Day, but....
The PC parts sales on Amazon were extremely disappointing to say the least and I only ended up buying 4g of MX4 thermal paste there for 10$ with free shipping, followed by cancelling my Prime trial, not worth it.
Everything else, I bought on Newegg, because it was nearly 150$ cheaper for the same/equivalent parts with shipping and taxes included.

It's pretty garbage, as usual. Some other places like Newegg and BestBuy are doing 48 hours of deals right now too though, so at least there's that.

Nvidia has freesync over DP and not HDMI. They simply use the wrong revision of HDMI to make it work. Dokt know if you can use adapters to get around this.
