  1. Now I have a weekend project! Is there any reason or just because it's easier on the routing? (Funny story, Dan and I did it that way in the test build, I just thought it could go either way since Linus did it backwards to what I suggested)
  2. Thank you for this part list! I really like that Metallic Gear case and it looks like a good choice! The overall build is super budget friendly so thank you for the list! Man I love this forum!
  3. Thanks for your input! I'll have to measure out that case to see if it will fit in the spot on my desk! I guess I have some evaluating to do for my needs! Does anyone know the ETA for more Ryzen 4000 laptops to hit the market?
  4. Hey LTT Forum, With my current job coming to an end, and uncertainty about my next one, I figured I could invest in myself with the PC budget I've built up. Gaming is a passion of mine, but do I care if it runs 1440 at 240hz? Not at all as I grew up on Consoles and mostly play my Switch. Would I like to Stream my Switch playthroughs and my Xbox playthroughs? Absolutely. My main focus of this machine is to be a workhorse for all the things I'm interested in: Affinity Photo, Resolve, Ableton Live being the big one Budget (including currency): $1,400 Country: CAD Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order, COD Warzone, Cyberpunk (hopefully), Halo Affinity Photo, Photoshop, DaVinci Resolve, Ableton LIVE 10 Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): I have a 27" 4K60 monitor that I use along with a mouse, keyboard, and mouse pad, so my peripherals are good. I would need a capture card for streaming, but I'm mostly trying to figure out that with the budget I have, do I go for a laptop along the lines of the ASUS G15 at the top of my budget (or something sporting the new Zen 2 in a laptop) Or do I build a micro-ATX build using this starting list I've created on PC Part Picker? Are laptops still the enemy that we used to believe? Or would one last me for at least 3 years or once I start getting paid more... Thanks for your input Forum! -MattyNubbit
  5. Thanks for the input! Would these small sticks that are in my laptop be 204-pin sticks or 240-pin sticks?
  6. Hey kelvinhall! Can you chime in on my RAM question I added to this thread? Thanks in advance for your insight!
  7. Hey forum, now that the mystery slot has been solved, my next aspect is replacing my RAM (picture of my RAM is attached). A quick parts search is saying this is DDR3 RAM, so if I get this G-Skill laptop ram (two of them), would it be plug and play like I'm assuming it would be? Being on a budget I think I'll upgrade the RAM first to get Resolve running faster and keep all my storage in my WD MyBook that I have on my desk already.
  8. Thank you for the input! Given how expensive mSATA drives are... I think I'll just replace my 2.5" drive with a 2.5" ssd to bring some new life to my system
  9. So I measured it out from the seam of the metal bracket (which I'm still unsure how it comes off, maybe by taking off the entire backplate) and it comes to 100-110mm from the edge of the bracket to the start of the pins. And the width of the socket is roughly 30mm.
  10. Hi kelvinhall! Here is an image of the whole upgrade section of this old boy as well as a close up of the "M2x2.5" area! So would this be able to handle two drives or is a swap of the HDD the only option for me? It looks like the Metal Bracket can come off with two screws so it may populate a full length M.2 drive? Let me know what you think!
  11. Hi LTT Forum! So as much as I'm wanting to build a full desktop computer, I'm about to be out of a job and want to just upgrade my old HP Envy to get some work done on it, not necessarily to game. UPDATE: The forum helped me solve the original "mystery slot" problem but now I need some RAM advice for my unit! Please see the last post for the current RAM that's slotted in my unit! ------------------------------------------------------ I took it apart and found that the HDD and RAM are easily upgradable, and an empty "M2 x 2.5" slot exists. Now to me that seems like a contradiction of M2 and 2.5 but it also doesn't say M.2... My question to the forum is what drive slots in this spot that's roughly a quarter of the size of the actual 2.5" HDD that is already in my computer? Thanks for the replies!
  12. Hey everyone! I'm super stoked to see that people are finding this thread and enjoying the design! That said, y'all wanted FP merch soooo I added some FP to the design! I'm hoping Luke sees these before Friday's WAN show. It'll make my week! -- Matty
  13. What's up Floatplane chat members! Today was my first Floatplane chat WAN show (can't say Livestream cause of the Roast), and at the end, I witnessed the magic of the internet and the birth of the #NubbitGang. Shoutout to Luke for creating this wonderful clan of minions and James for being James. A couple of FP members thought the idea of a #nubbitgang shirt was awesome so here we go! The first draft is attached and all comments are taken into account for the next mini-design idea! ** (keep in mind this is no way endorsed by Linus/Luke/James/Jake/LTT/LMG for now and I'm just making quick renders during my study breaks for my finals) ** -- Matty
