  1. I went to a retailer here in NZ and put in $448 after currency conversion. What comes out on top is i5 7600K unlocked, and Ryzen 7 2700. The intel costs more and does not come with a heat sink. I havnt even bothered to look at the performance. I find that CPUs are priced appropriately by performance. CPU is not the only thing you want to look at. You need to look at the combined cost of everything you need.
  2. is this the same performance as what live linux cds do when they boot to ram?
  3. yea i know but here in nz there is a lot of competition for the entry level jobs. We only have a few industrial places. I dont know where they advertise the entry level jobs but i have seen them advertise for experienced electricians for the gas industry in Taranaki
  4. I think you'd be better off evaporating water than using refrigeration.
  5. Ubuntu 19.04 was just released but you can't upgrade the normal way.

    Use this to upgrade today:

    sudo do-release-upgrade -d

I cant be bothered posting this in the news section coz they have rules I can't comply with.

  6. open plan offices are sweat shops. I have seen some really hot and disgusting ones. Also they never put in a big enough fresh air fan. When i worked in air conditioning I visited almost every building in town. The lack of fresh air is something i cant stand. I have walked into offices and been blown away by how hot and stuffy the air is. Also in these places the workers often look like zombies. Not healthy at all.
  7. Some trades are doing great, some wages have not improved in the last decade or two. I went into appliance repair when i left school but i moved on after the recession. I dont see any reason to go back. There are "approved" companies that have locked down the industry and lots of whiteware products are not made to be serviced. Planned obsolescence sucks.
  8. i just bought the samsung G70 as it was the cheapest 144Hz monitor available to me atm. Iv had it just over a week now. No complaints so far. The stand it comes with takes up too much space. The stand is actually quite awful, but that is nothing really.
  9. i used to dual boot, then i just stopped using windows after steam came to linux
  10. do they really need to store every raw video they have ever filmed? At Weta studios they employ a team of people to manage their archives of digital artwork. LTT isn't making lord of the rings!
  11. pick one service. Show us the log for it when it stalls. im pretty sure ubuntu 18 by default uses a swap file. It's complaining it cant find sdb7. You should look into that. Also you can turn swap off with "sudo swapoff -a", if you have enough ram to run without swap.
  12. I hope this is the right section. What is the cheapest kit, or instructable, that can turn a rapsberry pi zero into a laptop? I dont have a 3d printer. I do have a jig saw and hand tools. Im really disappointed at the price of the up coming nexdock. I can buy a laptop for that price.
  13. My politically incorrect 2 cents on this topic: one thing that has been consistent in my observations, over the years, is that pop music is for children, more for little girls, overweight teenage girls, and effeminate boys. Rap music is for retards who want to be gangstas. Rock and metal for kids who reject the rap retards. Electronic for pill poppers. RnB for ethnic minorities who wear women's earings in both ears.
  14. lynx2 for ubuntu :) I actually used this when i had a single core netbook. Its great for reading stuff like wikipedia on batteries
  15. I use an apple keyboard. It has pretty short keystroke like a laptop
  16. I dont think creatine makes you lose hair but male baldness is blamed on testosterone, so maybe just the exercise alone causes the high T which causes the hair loss. - Im not a researcher or a doctor so dont quote me. Not everyone benefits from creatine. I gain 5kgs of weight from creatine and for me that extra weight is a negative. You should not do all sets to failure. When strength training, you are training your body's nervous system to activate all your muscle fibers. The training part, is triggering your body to adapt to the stress of the workload. So you are only risking injury when going to failure. That is only true for strength training. For hypertrophy you can train for failure, but the advice on that is mixed. I personally trained to failure everyday, in body weight and sand bag exercises in martial arts, and I have a shit ton of injuries from it.
  17. lol that happened to me when I broke my leg and I could only train my arms in a wheel chair
  18. oat flour is oats milled down to a flour. Its a great way to bulk up. You can put some in your protein shake but its even better to let it soak in water and make oat milk, then strain out the larger pieces so you have an easy to drink concentrated carb drink that is full of vitamins and other good stuff. Some people bulk with shit carbs or buy those protein powders with added carbs. I recommend oat milk over anything. You should never consume carbs without vitamins, there is a reason why they add vitamin c and a few Bs to energy drinks. Oats arnt too bad for protein too, i think they are 15% protein. I use bananas for flavour coz of their high potassium. Here's is a few more thoughts: Increase your salt and other electrolytes & magnesium. All through my 20s I endured chronic leg cramps because I didnt consume enough electrolytes. I recommend a book by Brad Schoenfeld called max muscle plan. Its got a great progression program with photos and descriptions of all the exercises in the plan. I wish I had this book when I was your age. It switches between the strength training I describe below and Brad's hypertrophy training. I recommend "5X5 strength training". Its very popular so you might find its hard to find the original program by Bill Starr. I have Bill Starr's book, I dont recommend it because I can tell you the program here: Its the big heavy barbell lifts; dead lift, squat, bench, press, row. Do some warmups then hit 5 sets of 5 reps of every bar exercise with progressive weight increases, 3X per week. A lot of people miss that 5X5 was popularized by a football coach and so has proven to work as a compliment to playing sports, not as a complete system on its own. Do hip thrusts as a warm up before dead lift and squats. I was given hip thrusts from my physio therapist and it did heaps for me. Look up jeff nippard on youtube, he does an interview with an expert about it. It activates your muscles better than doing some practice dead/squat sets. Get a golf ball and a foam roller. The stretching room at the gym is only good for perving at ladies. Foam rolling > lady stretching. Stretching does not release problematic & overworked muscles. The golf ball is for the very deep trigger points. There are a few yoga exercises worth doing as soon as you get out of bed. You can look them up on youtube. I like the indian push up and a hamstring stretch that I actually dont know the name of. That should be all the stretching you need.
