Is that suposed to be the graphics card with the blank spots? The only thing I see wrong is the excessive amount of paste used. It looks like some spots are not covered, but that is likely just stuck on the heat sink or got pulled to another area when you removed the heat sink. You could always just try another thermal paste.

I'm not sure what that paste is like, but I usually prefer one thats easier to spread. Not the kind that sticks to itself like gum, and stretchs and springs back making it difficult to spread evenly.

    What are you using now?

I mainly stay with full size keyboards. since the layout is always the same. There are difference configurations with less keys, but the problem I find is when I change keyboards some of the keys like page up/down, home/end and other keys can be in different places. It gets annoying if I keep press the wrong keys for shortcuts or need to reassign keys.

Yes thats the Byski version that is not labeled Granzon. What I noticed is that decibel for the Granzon listed on the US site uses the decibel for the AliExpress $15 Bykski fan. I don't know if it is a mistake or more of honest opinion of the sound, but they appear about the same in appearance with only different bearings.

You can find the Ganzon fans from stores Byski stores.

I thought I would post this since I was trying to find the amperage and wattage for this fan which was from a US store. AliExpress stores seem to have left out some important details. 11/11 sale was better, but I still find this tempting to buy during the $4 off for every $25 sale.

You could have just used a single piece of cardboard and folded in the direction where the corrugated fiber bends easier to use less tape . Some cardboard from a monitor or motherboard box might make it look a little nicer if you find something with a picture or logo in the right place.

alyen got a reaction from RevGAM in Anyone heard of Teucer? A Chinese fan brand
If you are able to buy from Amazon at reasonable price, Arctic P12 5 pack and Thermalright TL-C12C 3 pack are safer to go with as cheap fans.

It's possible Teucer may have some decent fans, but also keep in mind AliExpress may have fake sellers that imitate another manufacturer with similar store names so it's difficult to distinguish what is good or bad. I haven't bought any Teucer fans, but I have kept an eye on it for a over year now and even check Amazons cheap fans. I spotted some fans on Amazon that looked identical to a variation of the 1800 RPM Teucer fan, but had a different brand. The Amazon reviews said the fans have rubber corner pads and were quiet, but did not move air well so not recommended for radiators or heat sinks.

I do have some Teucer fans in my cart to check prices, but I decide against it at the time even though the price looked good during 11/11 sale. These fans would have been the +2100 RPM that looked like Noctua or Gentle Typhoons with the visible brass like looking disc in the center and notches on the fan blade. I figure maybe the higher RPM could compensate for lack of air movement if the price was right and if I didn't care about the noise level if things didn't work out as I had hope.

Average cameras won't capture the picture how we actually see RGB lights with our eyes and thats why advertised images for RGB products are modfied. All I can see is the RGB rings looking slightly dimmer than the other. These things could happen with different production batches with some plastics/parts being same as before. Are you able to return it and ask if they can get both boxes matching. This is why I don't put too much RGB stuff into a single case.

alyen got a reaction from CosmicEmotion in What Linux distro is best for someone new?
I tried the KDE distro, but felt it wasn't what I was looking for in the UI after getting use to Mint and Ubuntu. Kind of felt like a really old Windows Vista or earlier versions. Maybe I didn't look hard enough, but I couldn't where the Terminal was.

I still find Mint Edge/Mate distrobutions and Ubuntu at the top of distros I like with a more refreshing UI arrange in a practical way I prefer. I really like how Mint Mate and Edge have a nice dark clean theme that looks good right from the start. I always think background images should fade towards dark or light color in a way so the icons stand out around the edges of the screen or where ever they are placed.

Does anyone have any recommendations for which distro for installing on a Surface Pro 3? I tried Pop OS for a couple of months. It's a old and slow dinosaur of a tablet, but I still use it for web browsing, LibraOffice, rough sketching and taking notes. I was able to install Windows 11 with it as a activated license but it's bloated with too much junk and no longer supports tablet mode since I don't have a keyboard pad that works with it anymore. I didn't want to go back to Windows 10 after seeing most Linux distros I have tried would seem better. I think it really just needs a distro that boots up fast.

Only a single fan on dual towers works good and even better in shorter length cases. It's what I do with my dual towers and save the extra fan for something else.

Nothing wrong with aesthetics being a priority, but it seems like you don't really want to spend anymore since you came hear asking. Even if you made all these changes you may not end up with anything being noticeably quieter. Which version of the Frost Commander did you get? There is a black, and grey version. Also 4, and 5 heat pipes.

I'm in Canada so the cost for a new Frost Commander/Spirit is about 2.5 to 4 times as much for a Assassin IV new or open box product I see available to me. I don't feel it is worth paying that much to try to get the absolute best aesthetics over cooling. Assassin IV is fairly new so it's way over priced.

Have you considered just replacing the fans with Noctua? How about adding a 3D printed cover over the heat sink and fans? Do you really want show to off your computer or just need to make it quieter.

alyen got a reaction from almog in What should I choose, big air cooler or 240mm AIO?
Go with a dual tower air cooler if you can. PA120 as people have recommended or something similar that is comparible. 240 AIO wouldn't be good for that case. It may not fit in the top of the case as intake and may operate poorly under your desk during the summer.

Having 3 fronts intake fans for your case might actually help you make it quieter if you don't need to run the fans so fast. Not sure which front of the case you have, but it looks like all options still pull the air in from the sides and bottom. The front has a dust filter so maybe if things get too hot during the hotter season you could remove the front cover.

I don't need to depend on this for work. I'm looking other alternatives since I don't want to activate Windows for certain features and Linux does have some speed over certain tasks for my use. I definately can use enough of Linux for my basic needs for certain activities that I have going now, but just looking to see if there is anything else that could go more smoothly. It's also interesting to see different UI they have since some have features I prefer compared how Windows does some things.

That's one I never even heard of, but I'm sure there are more out there. That's the next one I will try for a week.

You can look on Amazon for RGB hubs to see if any will work for you. There are kinds that allow you to connect SATA or 4pin molex for extra power so it's not entirely dependant on the motherboard power. If you can wait for deliveries you may be able to find them half the price on AliExpress compared Amazon. It took about 2-3 weeks to get most of my orders I did this month from AliExpress.

Yes you can jump to 4.60 from 2.90. I'm not sure what you have in there now, but does say not recommended for Ryzen 1000 and 2000 series. I upgraded to 4.60 with a 3800X and haven't really noticed any problems.
