  1. This is a new build for my dad. It is an Asus Prime B550 pro paired with a Ryzen 5 5600 G, on board video, and Corsair vengeance 16GB kit (2x8) CORSAIR Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) CMK16GX4M2B3200C16. Got the system put together but would not boot, would not go past cpu check on boot. Figured out it was the psu, swapped that out and it started booting every time but I kept getting a usb over volt warning and the system would turn off, unplugged all usb devices and added them back one by one and found out the mouse was causing the issue. Swapped mouses, computer booted fine and got windows installed. Would not connect to the internet, kept saying cable was unplugged even though it wasn’t, tried disabling the adapter and re-enabling it and the adapter completely disappeared. restarted and everything worked internet and all. Did all windows updates and ran for about 30 minutes no issues. Shut down and restarted several times with no issues. After it sat I tried to turn it on and would not go past cpu check on boot, power down and reseated cpu connection and it would boot just to say usb over volt again. Unplugged all usb devices and still get usb over volt. When it decides to turn on it boots and I have no internet again and about a new usb driver it says it needs in device manager. does anybody have any idea what the hell is wrong with this thing? I have tried everything I can think of, different psu, only 1 stick of ram, nothing attached other than what is needed for boot, ram is running at stock speed, removed cmos battery and put back in. the only other thing I can think of is buying a new keyboard (his is old) a new case (he wanted to reuse his old case and the sled for the mobo is loose so I’m getting him a new one) and a brand new psu (the psu he wanted to use is brand new but years old with braided ketchup and mustard cables, booted the system fine and installed windows with this with no issues until now)
  2. I did check to ensure the cpu and ram are compatible and it shows what bios version it needs but I did not see the bios version on the box or in the manual. But thank you for letting me know about the boot kit that is very helpful.
  3. So my father wanted to build a new computer. He got an Asus Prime B550 plus mobo and a Ryzen 5 5600G processor since he didn’t want to have to buy a gpu as he isn’t doing anything really tasking on this build. Well he’s also set in his ways and didn’t want to have to buy a new monitor too so instead he bought an hdmi to vga cable to use his old monitor. I put it all in the case he had and booted up and the boot got stuck on the cpu check. So I powered down and checked the 8 pin connector and reseated it and powered back up and it went through all of the tests and went to boot. I got no video at all and when I attempted to restart it got stuck at cpu again. I told him I am getting him a new monitor that supports hdmi or dp and we will go from there. I also now understand that I will more than likely need to flash the bios for it to run correctly on this processor. The board does not appear to support flashback so how would I flash the bios in the event a on a new monitor I have no video still and no flashback? I assume the answer is get a gpu or an older cpu and flash it and then put the new one back in but I am trying to avoid having to buy those.
  4. R5700 XT is closest compared to the 2070 Super and it's close to $150 less in most cases https://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Nvidia-RTX-2070-Super-vs-AMD-RX-5700-XT/4048vs4045 I would throw in a few high cfm case fans as I have heard the R5700 XT's run hot (especially being they have a 1 fan blower cooler on them) at least until the AIB cards fully come out.
  5. So I ended up stumbling across a fix I believe. in the search bar type in msconfig and that will bring up a small box and at the top it will say "General, Boot, Services, Startup and Tools" Under general select "Diagnostic Startup", then go to the Services tab and deselect all. Click Apply and then reboot. After reboot you should be able to change your background to anything you want (At least I was able to) I then went back to the search bar and typed msconfig to bring up the same box as before. I then selected Normal Startup under the General tab and then went to the services tab and selected all the same boxes I had enabled before and rebooted again. After reboot I was able to change background again with all my same normal services and programs running without any issues. Not sure how this helped but it did.
  6. So I am looking at upgrading some components very soon and looking for suggestions. I don't have my CPU overclocked and prob won't overclock it anytime soon so no cooling issues there. The AIO is more so I can fit 32 GB ram in, current cooler blocks one memory channel unless I make the fan a pull instead of push which I don't want to do. And I have never gone over ~11 GB ram used and CPU has only been fully utilized during benchmarks, the rest of the time it sits at no more than ~20%. GPU of course is heavily used because of gaming, but I have no complaints about my current GPU, it gives me well over 100 FPS in every game I play on Ultra/High and Ultra in 1080P. So why would I want to upgrade? Well a buddy of mine is looking to build a good gaming PC and is limited on funds (around $400) so my plan is to chip in the extra $400-$500 and upgrade my pc and use my parts in his pc (my pc was just built new in May) Here is my current setup Asus X470 pro Ryzen 5 2600 16 GB G Skill 3200 (2x8) Arez Strix RX 580 8GB Cooler Master Hyper 212 RGB Black Edition CPU Cooler Those are the parts I'm looking to upgrade. Here's what I'm thinking. Ryzen 7 2700x around $250 16 GB G Skill 3200 (2x8 giving system total 32GB) $104 Cooler Master 240 AIO CPU cooler $68 total around $420 or 5700 XT ~$400 (depending if reference or custom) or 2070 ~$470ish (but 5700 xt performs way better for the price, 5700 xt is more inline with 2070 super but over $150 less) What do you guys think?
  7. I downloaded and disabled the setting for blocking background image change in gpedit.msc and it didn't work after restart as can be seen below. I also changed the background image in registry editor as seen in video below and restarted and it still didn't work. Also showed the file path was correct and it displays the picture I set in registry editor.
  8. Also I double checked windows update and it's fully up to date. The last update was yesterday and it was for Windows Defender. It has been doing this for quite awhile, and some programs or games will crash the desktop and turn it all black but still show icons. If I highlight the background though it will show the background image
  9. No gpedit.msc could be found when using the run command
  10. Windows is fully activated as can been seen in video below. See video below, it just goes back to black.
  11. I double checked my copy of Windows 10 is fully activated, but it won't let me change the background from the stock windows image. If I select a different background (even one preloaded with Windows) it changes it to a solid color automatically. I've tried checking the group permissions as suggested online (that required downloaded something I didn't trust), made sure show background image is enabled etc. and it still won't change it. Any ideas? Here is a short clip of what it is doing
  12. I'm looking into getting an AIO for my build but want to get some insight on the tubing type from people that know. There is a Cooler Master AIO that has FEP tubing, it's a 240 mm AIO but I have never heard of FEP tubing before. I know most that I have seen use sleeved rubber tubing, but what exactly is the difference? And is Rubber Tubing better or are they basically the same? Thank you in advance.
  13. Ok, I enabled DOCP which changed the timing to 16-18-18-38 which is what it calls for and I set the voltage to 1.35, saved and restarted and in bios it still shows 2133 MHZ, but CPU-Z still shows 1596.2 MHZ which you said is correct for 3200 MHZ?
