  1. My pc sucks because it is not a pc. windows won't even run, I can only really use it if I boot the computer into linux from a thumb drive I have an album of different bluescreens on icloud, 2 out of 4 usb ports are physically damaged, I had dongles in them, and dropped the computer on the dongles, and the cd drive in the laptop falls out if i shake the laptop. oh, and it doesn't support AC wifi, nor bluetooth. AND, the processor is at least 7 years old
  2. My laptop is having performance problems (overheating), and my parents are having trouble committing to either fixing it or getting a new one, so I was wondering about the benefits of a lightweight Linux OS I can try to get a bit more life out of my laptop. I picked out a good replacement laptop and the parts, I just need to use the computer while they deliberate on the issue.
  3. I find a cool image that I like, then I do a reverse google image search for visually similar images that are greater than 2 MP in size. This is the original image that I started with, and I found around 10 different wallpapers that I liked.
  4. Well, my current laptop has lost me many tens of hours of work at this point due to the aforementioned issues. there have been days where within the space of an hour I have had my computer crash, BSOD, or freeze 4 times in an hour. I just want a very stable system. I would like something with at least 5 hours of battery life, since I intend to bring it to school, since the school chromebooks are utter and complete rubbish. I am from New england, I think that that is what you are asking?
  5. how recent is somewhat recent? My system is around 6-7 years old, and I am considering switching to a ryzen-based system, would that affect anything?
  6. ok, thank you. How would I transfer all my settings, though? would I just have to manually reset the settings?
  7. I know how to physically transfer the SSD, I actually replaced the HDD that came in the laptop originally with a 512 GB SSD. What would I need to do on the software side of things to make the SSD work as the new system's drive, and retain all of the old settings and files? Full Disclosure, I have not purchased the new laptop yet, but I am in the process of looking.
  8. This is my first post, so could somebody let me know if there is something glaringly wrong with my post format? I am looking for a good laptop that is around 600 USD since my current laptop is dying due to fan problems, and since it is too old to be worth the money and time required to repair it. I would like a 15.6 inch laptop that is stable without BSOD's and Freezes, overheating, or crashes. I would like something that is thin enough to be portable, but I am not worried about the weight.I would like at least an i5, and definitely want a GPU. To further complicate things, my father, who will actually be buying the laptop has brand loyalty to HP. Also, edit 2, I forgot to mention that I would like something with around a 6-7 year life after I buy it, and I really would like this hypothetical perfect laptop to have a good keyboard with something like tactile feedback. Edit 3, I would really like something with lots of I/O, since my main use case is having my laptop closed next to my desk, hooked up to my monitor. Edit 4, I would like something with good upgradeability. Sorry for all the edits, I just keep remembering things I forgot to add
