  1. I have been using my Surface Laptop 5 (i7-1255U, 16GB RAM) for about 3 weeks now and I am honestly quite disappointed with the battery life on this laptop. On a full charge, I get around 3-4 hours doing basic tasks like web browsing, YouTube and Word. To be clear I am not expecting it to last however long Microsoft claims but I would have thought it would last at least 7+ hours. I'm curious to know whether my laptop has a faulty battery, some sort of background task that's draining the battery or the fact that it's the i7 model. I would also appreciate it if any of you guys who also own a Surface Laptop 5 or even older models let me know how your battery life is. Thanks!
  2. I'm looking to buy a pcie gen 3 ssd and can't decide on whether to buy the Samsung Evo 970 Plus or Seagate Firecuda 510 1TB. Both are similarly priced. The SSD will be for general use booting windows, web browsing, little bit of gaming etc. Nothing extreme. I would greatly appreciate any insights. Thanks
  3. Yep like proina suggested every single time I don't use the laptop I make it so that it goes into hibernation. (1-2 times a day) and the laptop does only have 8gb of RAM and has been suffering with 40+ chrome tabs and other apps in the background too. Seems logical now for the 90% health. Hopefully that fix I mentioned means I don't need to use hibernate.
  4. Now that you mentioned hibernation that seems like the more logical culprit. With this sleep coma issue, the only workaround I have found was to put the laptop into hibernation and I have been doing so since I upgraded to this SSD. Fast start up is also on. Another person linked this https://zentalk.asus.com/en/discussion/61399/zenbook-will-not-wake-up-from-sleep as a potential solution so maybe I can try that and stop using hibernate. But just a question, when I put the laptop to sleep/close the lid after a while the laptop will go into hibernation unless I disable it right, ensuring that data is only written to RAM?
  5. Less than a year ago I bought a 500GB Kingston A2000 to upgrade my laptop's SATA m.2 SSD. However recently noticed on CrystalDiskInfo that the health status shows 90%. From what I've read online I shouldn't be too concerned however I would still like to know the cause of it if possible and whether I should be concerned. I narrowed it down to my frequent unsafe shutdowns as the likely cause. It just that with this laptop in particular (ASUS Zenbook Flip 14 UX461UA) it is pretty common for the laptop to fall into a sort of "sleep coma" where the laptop will go into sleep mode but it cannot be woken even with keyboard, mouse or power button forcing me to force restart. Interestingly from memory, the laptop's old SATA m.2 SSD maintained 100% even with the sleep coma issue. Interested in hearing your thoughts. Thanks!
  6. Hi everyone, for the past couple of months, every now and then my anti-virus will pick up some file that I suspect Windows is downloading in the background. Is there anything to be concerned of or is just stuff Windows needs and constantly does in the background for all Windows machines. Thanks
  7. So I updated my laptop to Windows 11 2 months ago but every now and then the wallpaper changes back to my Windows 10 wallpaper. This just a Win 11 bug?
  8. Recently for Boxing Day Sale I Purchased an Anker USB-C HUB w/ Ethernet & Power Delivery for $10 was around $80 However, when I opened the USB-C hub today I noticed significant yellowing at the ends of the cable on this supposedly new item. Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty it is just cosmetic and won't impact it functionally, though it would be nice if it didn't look used. So I was just wondering if anyone has dealt with Anker customer support and whether I should bother contacting them or are they a pain to deal with? Not really bothered sending the USB-C Hub back considering it works and its $10, just curious to see whether Anker are willing to send a new one just like other businesses I have contacted in the past. Maybe I can do a warranty claim? Although I might consider it if it's free. Thanks
  9. Hi everyone, I am a frequent user of Windows File History for backing up small files like word docs etc to my network drive in case I lose them. I am aware that file history is a little dodgy but I have been able to work through it and it has been very useful. My friend recently was interested in setting up File History however I can only enable File History through control panel and not Settings like in Windows 10. The problem is, in control panel you can only exclude files and not add like in Windows 10. This leaves the issue of specific files in the Documents folder not being backed up while the files in the desktop are. Is there anyway to fix this or should I finally look into third-party software? (Any suggestions?) Thanks
  10. Any recommendations? Or will a cheapo aliexpress one do just fine?
  11. Yeah, thought so. Just find it unusual there's so much after 2 weeks. Wonder what it will look like after 2 months or 2 years.
  12. Also could there be particles that I don't see on the pad that would be causing the the scratches and how does one clean them off. Do I give the mouse pad a good spankin..... I did spray it with a can of compressed air a couple of times.
  13. Hi everyone I recently purchased a new G502 and have been very happy with it for the past two weeks. However I noticed the stock mouse feet/glides get scratched really easily and I was wondering if its supposed to be like that or whether its my mouse pad. (I did purchase the mouse pad brand new 2 months ago) I'm not too fussed about the scratches as my MP510 mouse pad probably causes more friction affecting the glide of the mouse but I just want peace of mind on whether this is fairly normal or there is something I can do. I'll eventually replace the mouse feet if they do get really bad. Thanks.
  14. Hi everyone, right now I am planning on upgrading my laptop to an NVMe SSD and there are just a few things I want to ask. The SSD I want buy is a 500gb Kingston A2000 just waiting for it to go for a bit cheaper. My laptop is an ASUS Zenbook Flip 14 UX461UA which currently has a M.2 SATA SSD. I think the A2000 should work on the ASUS but please correct me if I am wrong. Regarding the software which will be cloning my current drive, are there any recommendations? Free is best. Macrium Reflect? Acronis True Image (which I think Kingston offers it for free). Also with connecting the A2000 for cloning is it fine if I use something like this?(aliexpress.com). I have a Dell Inspiron 3670 which has an empty M.2 slot so I am planning to put my current SATA SSD into that motherboard and then use the PCIe adapter thing and connect the A2000 to do the cloning. Im trying to save a buck and I'm willing to wait but just wondering if it would be better if I just bought an M.2 NVMe to USB adapter. Again the Dell should work with the A2000 but please let me know otherwise. Lastly are there any tips/things I should look out for when doing this upgrade? This is my first time doing this so any advice would be great. Edit: There's this guy on YouTube(youtu.be) who did an SSD upgrade on my exact laptop and got an INACCESSIBLE BOOT DEVICE BSOD error. I Googled it briefly and its something to do with MBR and GPT partitioning schemes (quite nooby at this stuff so maybe not). I checked my current drive and its GPT. If I were to get this error what would I do without having to install a fresh copy of Windows? Thanks!
  15. Today I decided to clean the dust in my laptop when I accidentally broke the cable connector off what I think is the Wifi/Bluetooth card. Not sure how I did it but think I might have bumped it with the back cover. If you look at the picture I'm pretty sure I ripped it clean off the solder point. However, upon turning on my laptop both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth worked. So I'm just wondering what exactly I broke and is it worth getting it repaired. Was really worried that micro soldering work was needed. So lucky it still works. Thanks
  16. Hi everyone, on my new laptop I am trying to setup Windows File History and I am having trouble selecting a specific folder that I want to backup to my network drive. Whenever I try and add, say the '2021' folder, it doesn't appear in the "Back up these folders" section. Only the main folders can be added e.g. Desktop, Documents, Video, Pictures. A workaround I figured was to just exclude every folder in Documents which proved to be very tedious and also resulted in files that are not in folders, random tmp files and temporary world files being backed up as well. Would really appreciate a fix to this. Thanks
  17. Hi everyone, today I accidently deleted some of my work files from my laptop when I meant to delete them from my backup hard drive. Considering its just been recently (1 hour or so) deleted hopefully my chances of recovering most of it will be high. Luckily it was just one folder and I have the backup of the same folder however it is 2-3 months old. Any help will be greatly appreciated. This is the last thing I want from my absolutely crapshow of a day. I'm probably going to put my laptop to sleep/hibernate now, hopefully that doesn't overwrite anything when I turn it back on the next day. Also these files aren't so important that I need to go a data recovery service. Just want to try out all the options I have and if that fails then its a big lesson learnt. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
  18. Hi everyone, if put my laptop to hibernate all the time rather than sleep whenever I am not using it does that cause significant wear on the components such as SSD. Or is it negligible in that general use of the laptop actually puts more 'wear' on the laptop. Thanks
  19. Hello, for the past year or two I've had this issue with my ASUS Zenbook Flip 14 UX461UA where when I put it to sleep it can't wake up from it. Moving the mouse, pressing on the keyboard and pressing on the power button does nothing. I can only get to Windows if I do a force shutdown and then boot up the laptop. When it is in this "coma" state the backlight for my external keyboard turns on. I am certain that it is not because of a dead battery because it has happened even at 100% and putting the laptop to sleep while charging is actually one of the ways that leads the laptop being locked in sleep mode. This problem happens 80% of the time and can happen after a few minutes of putting the laptop to sleep or a few hours. Also, I've had this blue screen of death one time that I think might be related. PDC_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT Would if anyone knows a fix to this Thanks
  20. Hi everyone, I use a laptop which is connected to a monitor. I typically prefer my laptop lid to be closed whenever I am working However I have been noticing that after 30-60 minutes or so the backlight from my mechanical keyboard would light up for a period of time and then turn off even though I put my laptop to sleep. (I press alt f4 and then select sleep if anyone wants to know). What do you think is causing this and should I be concerned? My theory is that its just the laptop going into hibernation and for some reason that causes the mechanical keyboard to light up briefly but I am not sure which is why I decided to ask. Thanks
