  1. I would edit the boot parameters to disable the Radeon driver and forcing the Intel one for everything

    Try

    Spoiler

    radeon.blacklist=1 i915.modeset=1 radeon.modeset=0

press E when grub is shown to edit boot parameters, add them after quiet splash separated with a space

Try those boot parameters separately if putting all of them doesn't give any luck, like

    radeon.blacklist=1 i915.modeset=1

    then

    radeon.modeset=0 i915.modeset=1

radeon.blacklist=1 only separately, same for modeset

If none of those still gives any luck, try amdgpu instead of radeon like amdgpu.blacklist=1... etc following all the steps again

  2. Are you currently using the NVIDIA GPU or the Intel one?

(There is a menu to switch that)

run glxinfo | grep NVIDIA, what does it show?

It is supposed to have screen tearing when you are running via NVIDIA because of prime synchronization disabled, but don't enable it unless you don't play video games

Btw it's strange because I see your Intel iGPU is not detected correctly (can be a screefetch bug)

apt update - synchronize with the repositories (the urls for available packages change due to updates)

apt install bcmwl-kernel-source - installs the driver

modprobe wl - enables the driver

Doesn't PopOS already come with wl drivers preinstalled instead of the b43?

(btw I think it appears on the ubuntu driver manager afaik)

i'm guessing the "other/unknown" is iOS and Android? since there is no way in hell they could have market share similar to MacOS without it being known what it is

I'm not 100% sure, but my supposition since I don't know how they pick this data, and assuming it's via browser, they could have decided to include even undetected platforms as "unknown"

Which can be obtainable by using browsers with some privacy extensions which presumably hides the user agent OS data, or again also by phone browsers who have "desktop mode" enabled, which again changes the user agent (which shows as a Desktop OS iOS or Android for example, so those may be put in there as well)

That's the only way I could explain this

Thats when I move my plex server to linux or freenas and when I move over to MacOS for desktop OS.

Imo they are not that comparable

Since this is exclusively an issue with Windows 3rd party drivers, and in those systems (BSD, MacOS and Linux) the driver release are completely different.

First of all, the linux mainline kernel drivers require the code to complain to some standards (and for a reason) and FreeBSD follows a similar line, MacOS too

Second, Windows drivers do not break ABI that frequently, while on those unix-systems drivers need to be recompiled for every kernel build (and linux drivers are open source, so pretty easy to port for eventual ABI changes thus causing not issues with that, but they still have to be recompiled anyway by design), that means windows drivers are retro compatible (and can ALSO be installed on later versions of the OS), and could be installed when they shouldn't

The only to blame here are 3rd developers, and in a small quantity Microsoft, which imo should require stricter controls and a sort of certification for those drivers to be installed with quality standards, and stricter OS requirements (Not every windows 8 drivers will work on 10 and will just cause issues)

  6. I still get it sometimes, I could basically open my eyes after a nightmare, but I'm not able to distinguish things and I start to hallucinate like you looked at the sun directly or some bright image, and you still see it when you look at something else, things that do not exist in the real world but that can get confused in a dark room, but once I'm able to move I quickly pick up the phone and just act as it's normal...I just deal with it.

When I was a kid, I was totally able to control my dreams and wake up relatively quickly, now I can't but I'm not scared as I used to do

I don't know who's fault it is here (antivirus companies or Microsoft), but this is pretty bad.

Not following Microsoft recommendations for many things and violate many fundamental principles of 3rd party software kernel integration.

    Basically this^

And it's the reason why you could get BSOD's or similar issues in those situations

I disagree, there are people (including myself) who really like customizing stuff to their heart's content.

Common knowledge or not, 75% of the people in the survey don't use it as their primary system.

I think as a solely developer OS is perfect, I suppose the problem comes in with the rest or even hardware/driver support (few cases for this)

Like I use it on my laptop 95% of the time

so in other word, linux doesn't really offer any much better performance in gaming and a pain in the arese to set up to do the things you need it to do so you're better off just sticking to what ever you're using unless you have bunch of spare time to trouble shoots stuff.

PS not really saying you are wrong, just talking from a perspective of a person who couldn't be bothered to switch to a whole new OS, hence my original comment

Will it make my life any easier ? No? .......then no.. i was answering the OP.

There is no troubleshooting at all when using lutris or steam play tbh, as for gaming performance the DXVK project is still in development and had it's first actual release after being an alpha 1 month ago, and in the future will probably have in-par performance or even better given since the translation from an high level API to low level one could offer technically better performance (note that dxvk works even on Windows and in some games performs even better than directx11) and it's already the case for a bunch of games

I'm not a full Linux user either tbh even though I use it from 11 years, I have to say only the latest 3 or 4 had the biggest advance in features, I always used it for the 80% of my work (it was 60 before DXVK was released since I exclusively gamed on Windows since then) and it definitely makes my life easier even though the hassle of dual booting for what personally do, since you did not was more specific about what you do with your PC rather than just gaming, I don't know what to say tbh, I guess ok since you was answering to OP

Since also I got a 1060 and a 144hz monitor, having 150 fps rather than 160 on a game that I would set to low graphic settings even on windows, for example doesn't touch me that much even if the performance would be in par with Windows in the future

It should work... Really strange, it's detected correctly and doesnt give any error, can you post a picture of the network manager showing the issue?

your WiFi chipset should be supported by Linux 4.6, what distro are you running? Linux version? uname -a

You could need to add a newer kernel or update to a newer Ubuntu version

Until it has equal support to windows, never.  Don't get me wrong, I love Linux for pro work stuff.  I won't deny this is a huge improvement for Linux gaming; however, it's still buggy, problematic, and not even close to my entire library is supported on there.

I got only a few buggy setups mostly related to crappy nvidia drivers though, but you don't have to switch if that's the case

    9 minutes ago, Rohith_Kumar_Sp said:

again, does it make my life any easier if i switch ?

And again, if you dislike Windows, in supported setups yes, I already covered those in my last response

EDIT: I can also think more about NTFS fragmentation, cost, speed (better file system, optimized file systems for ssd's, etc), windows updates, file managers, installation methods and the possibility to customize your desktop setup to maximize productivity

You don't necessarily have to like it if it isn't suitable for you but is for others

    Thanks! Appreciate the informative reply.

Do you know the best step-by-step guide or video that teaches you how to learn all the Linux basics and advance commands?

Mhh honestly no but it depends, you can use Linux without the need of a terminal if you want, or you can learn how to use it by just following bash tutorials which can be done also on macos for example

    Doesn't matter for the User.

Yes and all but Gnome3 are years or even decades behind the Windows UI.

Gnome is the one that comes closest to Windows. But its MacOS UI doesn't make it that great to use either.

The "classic" "Windows UI", that was also used by OS/2 Warp is far better.

And IIRC the Windows UI was stolen from old Unix GUIs or Nextstep of the time....

And it works really well. Sometimes you don't have more than 1 or 2 solutions for a problem.

And because of that shit with Gnome3, there were _TWO_ forks: One on the Gnome 3 Basis, called Cinnamon. One on the Gnome 2 Basis called Mate.

And both task bars are on Windows 98 (or Windows 95 with IE4) level, not the 10 years younger Windows 7 wich also is already 10 years old...

Not only two forks, but also gnome didn't supported shell extensions until then, you can make exactly it look the same as Windows without using some extensions like DashToPanel, which is used preinstalled in Solus for example or can be installed later in other distros

    dash-to-panel_1.thumb.png.571fed7b6ffd8888f46ce54bee3fc80a.png

I found gnome features decently for 2019 considering how it integrates Google drive in the file manager for example (gvfs)
