Kryppan got a reaction from Metallus97 in Help! Can someone identify my problem?
Yeah, I had a 1 year warranty so it is gone by now. And because this problem was not there at the start and happend just recently the refound policy in my country wont help me aswell due to the fact I cant really tell how this problem occurred. I have mailed ASUS however and see what they have to say about this problem.

Another fact to add in however is that before this happend I had problems with ''out of range'' error so in order to temporarily fix that I deactivated my GPU and updated my NIVIDIA drivers which solved that error. But now I am dealing with the problem stated in this post. I do not personally see how those problems would relate to eachothers tho, but I am not experienced and perhaps those two problems are related.

You'd need a dac as the tv has optical out, this should do the trick: (you will need an optical cable, any one will work with no difference in quality to a much more expensive one, you will also need rca cables which can be had for cheap)https://www.amazon.com/PROZOR-Digital-Converter-Toslink-Adapter/dp/B00KNNSKV0/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=dac&qid=1558638112&s=gateway&sr=8-5

To get atmos you'd need an atmos receiver, the xbox will support the amount of bandwidth needed for all the audio over the hdmi. same with the tv.

Just had a look, it supports atmos through the ARC channel. Dolby Atmos being included is only it supporting atmos, it has stereo (2.0) speakers built in

That is very weird as it states its only 2.0 but dolby atmos? odd. Unless its using a codec that supports atmos maybe? ill do some digging.

The thing about HDR is... well a few things. One, it's new, which is why there's no actual calibration for it. The other is that standards are only recently being made, and there's the Vesa standard, Dolby Vision, and something else that's slipping my mind.
The Vesa standard has different ranges, based on maximum light output from like 400 nits to 1000, and TVs can fall anywhere between there, or above or below it. which also makes the calibration practically impossible. https://displayhdr.org
And here's a thing on Dolby vision: https://www.dolby.com/us/en/technologies/dolby-vision/dolby-vision-white-paper.pdf
I just don't know what to say about HDR. I guess I'm not the most experienced in it, but for me personally, I'd rather have the definitive knowledge of knowing my color accuracy is on point. Until HDR becomes more easily and readily calibratable I'm not ready to hop on the wagon. It seems fine for general movie watching and stuff though.

I recommend the Yamaha receivers if you want surround sound. Granted, it's the only one I've owned outside of an Onkyo from 2003, but comparing it with my brothers Pioneer (which he bought for more money because it had like... an extra 5 watts of power or something) the Yamaha has way more features and it's a much easier system to set up and use. I've never had a problem with it, but his Pioneer seems to need fiddling a lot.

I haven't looked into QLED or it's differences with regular LED, but OLED will have the absolute best contrast since every pixel can be turned off individually for perfect blacks with no back light bleed. They do get some burn in, so static images should be shuffled up a bit, but it's not as bad as the old Plasma TVs. Most modern smart phones use OLED screens.

I'm going to just skip over... pretty much everything. Your PC is pretty similar to mine, FX-8350, 2gb 960, 24gb of RAM (Win7 only allows 16.) I regularly use my 144hz monitor, a 49" 4k in the living room, and a... fairly large >50" HDR 4k with a friends Xbone X. And my PS4 pro.

4K is basically useless, unless you buy a gargantuan TV or sit REALLY close. We recently got a 49" 4k after returning our old 1080 one for being painfully slow to operate. I messed around with it a bit and rendered out some 1080 and 4k images in Blender, as well as some real life pictures and flipped through them. I couldn't see a difference any more than 5 feet away, and even then it was pretty minimal. Just something to consider, but 4k TV's are the norm and pretty cheap now.

HDR has absolutely no method of color calibration. The standards are all over the place, and individual media has separate settings for the brightness, and dynamic contrast modes and backlighting tends to ruin it anyways. I'd rather color accuracy than perceived brightness. Maybe my buddies TV isn't calibrated quite right, or my eyes are fucked, but I've messed with the settings and as I said there's zero calibration for HDR right now. I just don't think I see the difference, especially not when it's got the local dimming and dynamic contrast.

I also have a Yamaha RX-V379 hooked up to my PC that I'm really happy with... this is a moot point I'm realizing... AVRs don't support higher than 60 Hz, so on my PC it's a second monitor that doesn't really exist since my primary is 144hz. But you'll be using a TV so I guess it doesn't matter. Any console and the PC all have great surround sound support. Oh, PC browsers don't support Dolby playback, so you only get stereo from streaming services. The consoles don't use HTML6 or whatever so they work fine. The built in app in the TV should support 5.1 as well, but the TV interfaces are generally clunky.

I'd say just get a console and keep the PC on the side. I don't know. Everything has flaws.

In all honesty i encourage you to get a console, a ps4 at that. It's simpler, more social and relashionship friendly. It's cheaper and easier to maintaine. I mean, i depends what you want to do and play on it. As a long time PC user i'm telling you it's worth it. Don't want to write an essay thou.

He had a concern about this current hardware. I figure his CPU is still worthy and wanted to point out where it could bottleneck him (and point out that I run a very similar cpu).  From my understanding, at 4k, the bottleneck tends to shift to the GPU meaning he shouldn't have to worry about replacing his CPU if that's not in his budget.

Yeah thats the solution I am leaning most towards and its nice to hear your experience on this because you already have that setup. And the fact that the Xbox One X also include a 4k bluyray option is great for the overall TV entertainment.

Yes, you want that and you can do it. A TV isn't much more than a Monitor...

And there is the BIG PICTURE MODE in Steam, many Games even on PC supporting XBox Controller, some even the PS4 Controller (wich is getting more and more prevalent, even with the PS4 Buttons).

I haven't read through this entire thread, but my two cents on the mattar are this...

A powerful PC will offer a more capable 4K gaming experience in a wider variety of titles han consoles are capable of powering, also of course providing the other freedoms and capabilities that are inherent to the platform, but it'll be more expensive and potentially a little bit more hassle.

My preference is the PC, but yours may not necessarily align with that. In the end, it comes down to what's important to you in a gaming platform.

I say skip 4k gaming as its really not worth it due to the cost factor.
And yes this means no to the Xbox one X too as honestly its a marketing gimmick.
I say aim for 1440p in terms of gaming PC and upgrade what you have, ignore the marketing of the Xbox as its all lies.
At best the Xbox can do is 2K upscaled as there is no way in hell that hardware is pushing true 4k.
Not to mention here soon new consoles will come anyhow so why waste money on a last gen console?
Save up money, put it into your machine.
    Its the better idea.

I think with a budget of 1000-1500 is better to stick with the ''console based'' 4k gaming. Not saying that you cant build a PC that can play games in 4k, but the true question is WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE you want with the 4k gaming. Because, 4k gaming at 30 fps at 60Hz without HDR, hase nothing to do with the 4k gaming in 60fps+, at 120Hz+HDR.

The consoles advertise 4k gaming but the majority of the time it is either locked to 30fps or upscaled from 1440p or 1800p.
with your stretched budget of around 2000 including everything, your pc budget is looking to be about 1200, (assuming a new build and selling your previous one), this is just about enough for a gpu such as an rtx 2070. Whilst not going to be powerful enough to give you true 4k, it in most cases will allow you to run games at 1800p (lower resolution then 4k but higher then 1440p) at (most of the time) 60fps. Which should look better then the 4k output from the xbox one x.

However a true 4k gaming experience at this budget is for the most part unrealistic. If you are ok with in some games less then 60fps or to lower some graphical settings, you may be able to go with a used gtx 1080ti which is the only way to get native 4k gaming at that price.

The consoles are not able to run 4k without compromise, speaking from experience the '4k' from a ps4 pro compared to a 1080p on pc on a 4k tv sitting around 1.5-2 meters away, the pc version looked better. I'm not sure why but am going to assume it is either due to lower graphical settings or the upscaling. (the xbox one x should do a little better but in most tests online it is comparable to a gtx 1060/70.

Id get the Xbox One for the TV, just because thats what consoles are built for. Id keep your current gaming PC, I have i5 3570K and for the most part it can still do well with a lot of modern Titles. So I would imagine your machine could hold its own for the most part. I mean you could look in to some upgrades in the future, but Id just keep what you have. Get an Xbox One if your looking to game on a TV.

That would actually make a decent LTT video. 55 inch TCL Roku TV (~$560) + $1400 PC vs XBox One X + 55 inch OLED.

Does the increased framerates of the PC make up for the decreased visual quality of the LED TV?

There is a good argument that for $2k the best experience is an X-Box One X with a $1500 LG B series 55 Inch OLED. In terms of overall picture quality.

I'd expect most folks here to lean toward the PC gaming side, but I'd have to recommend a console for your use case. A console will afford you the luxuries of a turn-key solution and open up the rest of your budget for a higher end 4K display and sound system.

In the US, a PS4 Pro / X1X can be had in the $350-ish USD range. You're then looking at roughly $300-400 USD for a decent name brand 4K + HDR display in the 50" range, which is optimal for something like 6 feet of distance for seating arrangements. I see you're in Sweden, so I can't comment on your pricing, but a 4K capable console would be the path of least resistance IMO.

Wait so the 4K TV you're upgrading to is a part of the budget you have set? So really your budget is -$450 for the 4K TV, because you are for sure getting one. I mean a decent 4K TV and Xbox one X would be about $800 - $950 total depending on what size and brand you want for the TV it could be a lot more, and a major factor is it would be probably a bit more than that to just build a decent PC to play games in 4K, considering your budget  I think a new PC is off the table, you could get the Xbox One X and 4K TV as well as a couple upgrades for your current computer and have both the Xbox One X and 4K TV setup and so when you do want to play some PC games you have your PC at like a desk or something with your current monitor and peripherals, mainly my whole post depends on if the 4K TV you are getting is a part of your budget or not. That's my personal setup I have my gaming PC with 1440p 165hz monitor at my desk, and my 65" Samsung 4K TV is wall mounted with a neat little stand for my PS4 PRO. So I can play both depending on what I feel like and also have a 4K TV for movies and streaming services.

You just have to find what works for you and go with it. Your current PC can still handle games decently, I'd imagine, so the decision is ultimately up to you.

You never want to play PC on a TV personally I've always had a bad experience where the graphics on a tv are slightly off compared to a monitor but that could just be a issue with the brand I used which was Samsung.
