  1. Ebay can be great, but be on the cautious side. Helped my brother buy a used Asus ROG Strix RX 470 for cheap, but had to rebios flash it since it had a modifed bios that caused driver errors from mining. Easily fixed, but to the unknowledgable could be a game-ending issue.
  2. So we recently had a power outage at my work place, a restaurant, and upon rebooting our POS system which ran on Windows Embedded, attempted to boot into a blue screen. Same result when launching into safe mode, or attempting a recovery image. I'm going to be attempting to retrieve the Windows Key if possible from BIOS, but besides this one video haven't found much that could be helpful. I know with newer windows versions it's easy to download OS installer to install from a USB drive without a key, but I need to find out if it's possible for the specific version of Windows Embedded, which I won't know until looking around tomorrow, is available to do the same and if not, what the best replacement option is as a full version of windows plus full POS programs would be too much for the system to handle.
  3. I'm still running on my galaxy s7 from 3 years ago, and am still paying on it to own. Discovered that you can now buy a brand new one for around $200 to $250. Depreciation is real.
  4. It really depends, there are a lot of great options. What kind of games are you looking to play, and what budget do you have? The Razer Blade lineup is a good option, there are plenty of LTT videos highlighting others as well, this video might be what you're looking for!
  5. Very nice! I've always wanted to try something similar to this, had a lot of dust buildup problems as well, there are quite a few decent case options out there for cheap that come with dust filters, might help improve the longevity of your components.
  6. Make sure you keep enough in your budget for peripherals, if you don't already have them, or a decent monitor they will definitely eat away at your budget as well. Try looking at your local online listings on craigslist, or facebook market. I've gotten great deals on used hardware there, and you can find great deals that you won't find on online retailers.
  7. I have a similar build I put together with my girlfriend, basically a "nostalgia build" as it uses my old FX 8350, and GTX 950, still games Skyrim, and any other game she wants to play on medium/high settings no issues. So I definitely understand where you're coming from, it's not always about BEST PERFORMANCE MORE FPS that you can't necessarily even see without a high refresh monitor anyways, 60fps is fine for most gamers IMO.
  8. In that case, there are plenty of decent guides, and build lists online that would provide more then enough performance, you'd also have to get peripherals of course. Paul's Hardware $500 Gaming PC Style Vs. Performance
  9. Absolutely, now that I think of it, with the uprising of the video game streaming services, Stadia, it might be a viable option for the future, especially with it being cross-platform, and easily stream able from multiple displays.
  10. Speaking from personal experience as a PC Master Race. I've tried getting friends/family to use PC instead of console, but there's a reason that consoles are more accessible for most people, the UI is much more intuitive, especially for younger people. You could try and get them to use PC for it's added quality, versatility, and future-proof. But it might go something like this: With the actual process of doing such things might be information overload. I'd suggest an Xbox, with a few games that he would be interested in. Nintendo Switch is great for versatility, but there are a lot of mobile game ports for games he would most likely enjoy, and most teens get a cellphone, or their parents have one to game on the go. You could even throw in the display you were planning to give him, and that would be a great way for him to have a personal way of gaming, without having to use the family room TV and share playtime!
  11. Color calibration is a thought on this. Display colors can vary widely in small details from different manufacturers, might simply need some minor tweaking to get to where you want it.
  12. I don't have much experience either, but it also frustrates me the level of variety in connectors for RGB strips, and the like. It seems that a lot of brands/companies are using proprietary connector methods, such as with my NZXT h500i, so that there isn't cross-compatibility, usually using their own style of control hub as well. This causes me to have to use 3-4 different RGB control programs from Cam, iCue, ASUS, and the physical remote for my RGB fans. There's tons of options out there that will work for you. Personally I'd consider with NZXT's products, as they all connect/use their hub and cam software.
  13. I don't believe that those fans have a controllable speed, I know that mine do not. I have a set of 3x Up Here RGB fans, and have them all powered with the provided hub, every boot I have to manually launch since my motherboard thinks I have absolutely no fans connected, and has a stroke. EDIT: Specs for fan are: Fan speed @ 100% PWM / 12V (rpm) 1,500 Perhaps look into your BIOS settings on launch, with my ASUS motherboard I had to manually go into fan settings, and adjust when fans kicked on, and what RPM/voltage to use.
  14. Proper back and posture support when performing tasks is the most important thing to keep in mind, but it also depends on how much you are looking to spend. I've had multiple "gaming chairs" and not only do you have to be a string bean to fit into some, they honestly hurt my back after prolonged use. Any office chair that is an appropriate size would be my suggestion, there are plenty of options that would serve you well, but you're always taking a gamble if you order online.
