Sintezza got a reaction from cj09beira in AMD Ryzen - AOTS benchmarks have been leaked out
If they want to do cpu performance compairisson tests in gaming.
Why are they doing those tests in 4K then?
I know that a Titan XP is concidered being a 4K card.
But yeah, if they did these tests at lower resolutions like 1440p or 1080p.
Then it would give us a better image of the relative cpu performance in this particular game.
AOTS is still pretty core clock speed demending,

    unless i missed something?

Yep there are no mini itx am3+ boards in the wild.
I do have seen a prototype once, but that never made it to full production.
Too expensive, too complicated, and not enough annimo for it.

I can totally understand the reaction of NCIX.
Its a pretty normal way of handling these kind of issues.
Hardware comes packaged out of the factories and go straight to the retailes.
They are not gonne check every item they shipped out of those are damaged in anyway.
    They only check the packaging.

Next to that, large retailers like NCIX get such kind claims of customers gazillion times a month.
Let me remind you that in maybe 85% of those claims the damage has exally been caused by human error eg the customer it self.
But its allways hard for both parties to proof who is exally reponsible.
I think they handled it really nicely offering you a refund.
I totally dont see what you are complaining about here?

Maybe you exally did damage the board yourself who knows?
    No offense of course.

Sintezza got a reaction from PCGuy_5960 in RX480(8GB)
Well i see allot of people state that the XFX RX480 GTR´s are the best RX480´s.
But in my opinion they aren´t.
Some people seem to get some good overclocking results with them.
However that is really a matter of silicon luck.
Because i also read other stories.

Basicly they are nothing more then a higher priced HiS RX480 Roaring.
they are exact the same cards.

About its overclock potential, you are spot on, there is definitely no guarantee that you will reach similar overclockes that other people like JayzTwoCents who seem to have started a hype about these cards,
    has reached in his video.

If you take a closer look the the pcb, then i can allready see that the vrm implementation definitelly isnt the greatest of the RX480´s atall.
The IR6811 direct on highside and IR6894 lowside fets used for the main gcore voltage, are not really the most efficient ones.
They have a pretty good efficiency, untill the vrm gets over 90°C.
Then they arent that efficient and great anymore.
The vrm on this card is really temperature sensitive for that matter, It needs a decent cool down.
Those direct on mosfets are nutorious for running extremely hot.

Next to that i´m personally also not a great fan of the mosfets used on the memory vr, which are from Sinopower.
i cant remember the type numbers of those atm out of my head.
But the ratings are 35A for highside and 38A for lowside at 100°C on those Sinopower fets.
So allthough the vrm design on the XFX card is decent.
But its not the best vrm on an RX480.

The best RX480 in terms of pcb design by far is the Asus RX480 StriX OC.
From which the IR3555 powerstages are rated upto 60A each at pretty much any given temperature upto 125°C ish.
But also the memory vr is better.

so the biggest improvement of the platform basicly will be the dmi3.0 bus.
Not really that interesting for users currently on Haswell-e / Broadwell-e.
Unless you want to expend your system with tons of storage.
But you basicly would be better of with a nas for that.

Also the Kabylake-X 4 core 8 threads cpu, not sure what sense that thing would make.
Unless intel is going to kick their 6 core Skylake-X chips right up to $500+ prices again.
    That would be hillarious.

I wouldnt call XFX a better company then Sapphire.
    Because they definitelly are not.
Sapphire is the pioneer of AMD cards for years now.
The RX480 Nitro+ OC is not a bad card, however this time arround their cooling unit indeed isnt the best one on the market out there.

The best RX480´s at this very moment, are the Asus RX480 Strix OC and indeed the XFX RX480 GTR.
Based on the cooler and pcb analytics.
The Asus RX480 Strix OC has the best PCB i have seen sofar.

Yeah thats a bit of the point, they ask pretty much top dollar for the Msi card.
And thats mainly what i dont like.
Of course 4 powerphases with some decent enough powerstages will still be more then fine, but still.
I trully think that the XFX GTR probably offers the best value for money.
But dont pin me on the actual current prices.
    They differ per country allot.

Sintezza got a reaction from Hal_9000 in X99 Sabertooth RED CPU LED
6800K is not supported out of the box on the Sabertooth.
You need to update the bios to the last version firstly before it will post.
So thats most likely your particular problem.
Now you are kinda lucky that you have an Asus X99 board which you could flash the bios without a supported cpu installed.
You could use the USB flashback utility.
Check the manual or Asus website for that.

If you have allready flashed the bios, and it still doesnt work.
Well then i guess you have either a dead board or cpu.
So i would suggest to call the shop you boaght your parts from.
My guess would be the cpu, but ofc it could be the board aswell.

Sintezza got a reaction from Stefan1024 in What does TDP really mean? TDP @ OC?
Yes thats why i said they are basicly related.
Because with cpu´s allot of the energy gets converted into heat.
But that doesnt mean that the actual TDP is also the max power draw.
Because that determines on some other variables, like which core clocks and actual load etc etc.

The main diffrences between distributions are package management,
    update management and software repositories.

Rolling release distribtions like Arch of Manjaro for instance have all then latest bleeding edge kernels and software.
However they also come with the latest bugs.
So this means that once in a while there could be a possible update that breaks the system.
However rolling releases are often faster with patching security issues aswell.
Also Arch based distributions have one of the largest software repositories the AUR, which pretty much gives you acces to allmost any piece of software ever developed for linux.
However again this also comes with downsides in terms of security and reliability, if you decide to use the AUR with Manjaro for example, you dont have to ofc.

    Ubuntu / Debian based distro´s.
Ubuntu and Debian are one of the largest distributions in existance.
Ubuntu has a really big fan base, and whatever distro based of Ubuntu you install, wenn there are any problems, there is allot of help to find on the net for you.
Which on Arch based distro´s can be a bit of pain in the rear.
Next to that Ubuntu based distro´s have a large software repository available too you aswell.
And next to that, with certain distro´s its pretty easy to use third party ppa´s.
However those third party ppa´s do ofc come with some kind of a security risk.
Overall you can say that Long term support distro´s like Ubuntu based, are more user friendly, and overall more stable.
Because they stay at a certain stable kernal base.
But they tempt to do short intrem releases every 6 months.

Fedora 25, is a bit diffrent from the rest.
They are semi rolling, which means they patch security issues pretty quickly, but come with an update ever 6 to 8 months.
The repository and its packagement out of the box might be a difficult for new users.
And Fedora isnt really concidered as a new user friendly distro.
However with the rpm fusion repository, its easier to install third party software.

If you are a Linux starter, then i would say since you dont have AMD graphics, go with a Ubuntu based distro.
It will most likely work the best for you out of the box.

Sintezza got a reaction from SirYanthon in Please let me know if im understanding this properly
    Is it?

Well that highly depends on the use case scenario exaly.
The X99 platform is only better in terms of pci-e lanes directly available to the cpu and quad channel memory support.
However that has not really much to do with the chipset in particular.
Skylake Z170 chipset basicly is superiour, because it offers more pch pci-e lanes, and it uses a dmi 3.0 bus interface instead of that terrible old dmi2.0 bus interface on Haswell.

    To aswer topic starters question:
It really depends on what your workload and main system ussage will be.
For example if gaming and browsing the interwebs is you main goal.
Then the Skylake platform obviously is the better choice, not only in terms of performance but also in terms of power effiecieny.

Now the debate i5-6600K vs i7-6700K, this part is also pretty easy to answer.
Because that is really depending on which graphics card you wanne go with.
And what your main games are you play and how you want to play them (which resolution).
    If wanne go with a 1080p / 1440p with a midrange gpu like a RX480 or GTX1060.
Then an i5 is pretty much all you gonne need.
But if you want to have more Horse power, and you want a higherend gpu like a GTX1070 or GTX1080 or better.
Then the 6700K is what you should go with.

Now the question, what about X99 then?
Well X99 basicly is only really interesting if you are looking for an allround system for both content creation that would benefit from having more cores and higher memory bandwith etc, and gaming or for virtualization.
