  1. Asrock X99 Taichi. Very decent board with a very good feuture set. And also pretty reliable. Pretty much from 2014 till now Asrock X99 boards seem to have been the least troublesome of them all. Msi X99 boards aren't really that great either tbh..
  2. If they want to do cpu performance compairisson tests in gaming. Why are they doing those tests in 4K then? I know that a Titan XP is concidered being a 4K card. But yeah, if they did these tests at lower resolutions like 1440p or 1080p. Then it would give us a better image of the relative cpu performance in this particular game. AOTS is still pretty core clock speed demending, unless i missed something?
  3. Lol and there are still people that defend all this Microsoft sheninigans bullshit.
  4. Yeah Skype is pretty crap. Thats one of the reasons why i still use WLM regardless. But interesting to see what this is exally going to mean for my workarround to get wlm working. Fingers crossed lol
  5. Well the memory vrm is sepperate basicly. Its most likely 4 phases doubled to 8 for main v core, on those particular boards.
  6. The Z270 chipset provides 20 / 24 lanes, which are connected to the cpu over a dmi3.0 4x interface.
  7. 10 phase power design hmm interesting. I'm currious to what AMD exally mean by that. Because there are no true 10 phase pwm´s used on modern boards today. But i suppose this will mean 4 phases doubled to 8 for main vcore.
  8. Cool. I have to say that i´m personally not really blown away by the specs of the am4 chipsets in general. However i can´t wait to take a closer look to these new boards, and doin some vrm circuitry analytics on them. I´m pretty much more interested in that. The feutures of the am4 platform in general arent really that innovative.
  9. Well basiclly X99 isnt really better for pure gaming atm. Unless you go crazy on triple gpu setups. There might be a very few games that might run better on a 6800K. But in most of the gaming benchmarks arround the board the 7700K will be at the top of the list. I personally think that the time that we really gonne see a benefit in having a cpu with more the 4 core + HT in gaming is still a pretty long way ahead on us. But in the future maybe. X99 is definitelly not a bad choice what so ever. But its just unessesary for gaming. And as far as overclocking is concerned, The 7700K will also overclock better. I'm personally in the works for an upgrade to X99. But i exally have the workload that benefits from having more physical cores,I run virtual machines. But if the only thing i do would be gaming and browsing the web. Then i would go Kabylake without a single doubt.
  10. I have not really seen that much in most DX12 and Vulkan benchmarks untill now. So unless i did miss something?
  11. And why would that be better for gaming specificly? Because i personally think that X99 is unessesary for gaming.
  12. For mainly gaming i would go with Kabylake 7700K. They have a higher overclock potential. And overall they are the better chips for gaming usually.
  13. I have seen great reviews on the coolers from the Asus RX480 Strix OC. Next to that the Strix has the best pcb quality wise, and decent temperatures. I dont really think that its up to any argument. How high it will overclock will be depending on the actual chip used on the card. Fan noise on the strix seems doesnt seem that bad to me, according to reviews i have seen. One source doesnt tell the whole story of course. The XFX might have have more silent fans, thats of course not that strange with 2 fans compaired to 3. The main thing i personally like less on the XFX card is the weaker memory vrm mainly. But thats just personal. I know someone who had bad luck with overclocking 3 XFX RX480 cards in a row, crashing at 1400mhz. But yeah thats of course a matter of silicon lottery loss. And doesnt really reprisent anything, like pretty much any overclocked gpu review. I did not said that the XFX card is bad. I also did not say that the Gcore vrm is bad. I just say that its not the best one out there. To me its the second best card, But in the end its just my personal opinion, based on pcb analytics.
  14. I personally dont really agree on that. wenn i take a closer look the pcb. The vrm on that particular card isnt exally the most efficient one out there. Infact the IR6811 direct on highside and IR6894 lowside mosfets used on the main Gpu vcore, arent really that efficient atall. Although there are 6 phases for main gcore voltage. They are nutorious for running crazy hot, so they need be kept below 90°C, to show a good efficiency. As soon as it goes above that, they are not that efficient anymore. The IR6811 fets are rated upto 55A ish at 90°C, but degrade to arround only 34A ish at 125°C What this basicly all means is that the vrm on XFX and HiS card is basicly pretty temperature sensitive. Next to that their vrm for the vram isnt the best either. They use Sinopower fets single highside 35A dual low side 38A fets at 100°C which again isnt the best memory vrm implementation on RX480 cards. Allthough the memory vrm doesnt get actively cooled by a heatsink. It does get some airflow from the fans. But the memory vrm in particular shouldn´t get too hot basicly. Allthough there are no thermal sensor to monitor it. What this basicly all means is that the vrm on the XFX and HiS cards is pretty decent as long as it kept cool. However its not the best out there. The best PCB and vrm implementation on RX480 cards is the Asus Strix OC. This particular card has 6 true phases, fed by IR3555 60A powerstages. These particular powerstages can handle 60A at any given temperature pretty much upto 125°C no problem. On which the the IR direct on mosfets on the XFX card are starting to degrade in efficiency above 90°C rappidly. Also the memory vrm is way better on the Asus RX480 strix card, which feutures single highside 61A fet, and dual 65A lowside fets at 125°C. Also wenn it comes to overclock stories about the XFX cards. They also seem to be a mixed bag. Its of course obvious that overclocking is a matter of silicon luck. You can have two exact the same cards, but that doesnt mean that they will also reach the same overclocks. One can be a great overclocker, the other one could be a total lemon. JayzsTwoCentz is just over hyping, because he got a golden review sample. In my personal opinion the Asus RX480 Strix OC is the best RX480. Based on the total package, build quality, cooler design and pcb.
  15. I find it highly unlikely that they come back at you admitting that they sended you a returned damaged part. A big retailer would normally never do that of course. damaged parts most of the time getting returned to the factory which then covers the damage. Some hardware gets refurbished sometimes and does get re-sold, but normally they will note it as refurbished. Mistakes could of course allways happen. But my main point is, how can you proof that you didnt actually damaged the board yourself? Like i said they get gazillion claims of such like on a monthly bases. And in maybe 85% of the cases, the damage has been caused by the customer or during shipping maybe.. But a customer will of course never admit that they have damaged their product. You also need to understand their way of thinking. I still dont see any vallid reason for you to complain. Or to tell people never buy from NCIX. It makes no sense atall to me atleast.
  16. I'm not really biased ot intel or amd in anyway. For that matter my home system is still all AMD. Sure if he could wait for a couple of months before Ryzen comes out, That wont be a bad idea either, and i have never said it would be. But upgrading to Kabylake now wont be a bad move atall either. We allready know that Kabylake performs. So if topic starter goes with Kabylake, i cannot imagin that he would ever regret that choice as far as gaming performance would be concerned. So its basicly a pretty sollid and safe upgrade from that perspective. Allthough to get the best performance out of a GTX1070 in games arround the board. Something like a i7 would be recommended. Like i also said a couple of posts back, it would be nice if Ryzen came with a 4 core 8 threads unlocked chip for arround $250,-. But yeah like i said there is not much to say about pricing, and how much they will undercut intel. But dont expect anything mindblowing crazy, because if Ryzen really adds up to its expectations. Then they also gonne ask the price for it most likely. AMD seriously needs to make money on thist.
  17. If money doesnt matter ROG. Simply because better board, better vrm implemention, higher quality components etc. Strix line is formally known as Pro game line, which is basicly a very midrange line of boards. ROG boards are upper mid tier to highend depending on the exact model. Tobad that we dont have seen a Maximus 9 Extreme yet. Also tobad that Asrock has not show their Z270 OC Formula yet. Which allways have been great value for money. Looking forward to take a peak at that one.
  18. Its not a dumb move atall as far as i´m concerned. Ryzen will not compete with Kabylake that is highly unlikely like i said, based on what we have seen till now. So that still would make Kabylake a reasonable enough upgrade. Its not a dumb upgrade atall. But yeah thats my opinion, whatever you agree with it or not. i dont really care, i´m not really that Ryzen overhyped for that matter
  19. Depends on which particular flavor of Ubuntu you talk about. On older machines Ubuntu Mate and Lubuntu would be pretty good. But that in my opinion is pretty much the only Ubuntu flavor distro´s worth looking. Xubuntu is also pretty sollid, however in that regards Linux Mint XFCE is better for new users. Ubuntu Budgie maybe in the future. Linux mint is a pretty sollid choice. But its all a matter of personal preference. There are soo manny decent distributions out there. And there are soo manny diffrent DE´s out there to pick from. It really depends on personal preference.
  20. Yep there are no mini itx am3+ boards in the wild. I do have seen a prototype once, but that never made it to full production. Too expensive, too complicated, and not enough annimo for it.
  21. There are no AM3+ mini itx boards that i know off. I think there has been one, but i cannot really remember that i have ever seen it. Might have been a prototype. But you wont find any mini itx am3+ boards out there. Because there simply arent any.
  22. That definitelly could be the case. But maybe then squeeze a few more bucks out and get a 7600K. It would be nice if AMD comes with a 4 cores 8 threads unlocked zen chip at arround $250,- Then it will definitelly be an interesting option. Another interesting option could be a Xeon 1230-V5 or 1240-V5 on a C232 or C236 chipsetboard. But yeah the choices of consumer grade C-series boards are unfortunatlly very limmited. Because intel has pretty much locked it down with Skylake.
  23. Well we dont know about the actual clock speeds their chips will come with out of the box. Nor do we know anything about their overclock potentials. So as far as competing to Haswell, we know that this is highly going to depend on clockspeeds. But that does also certainlly mean, that it wont compete with Kabylake. But thats to be expected, like i said. Next to that we dont know anything about pricing.
