I think it's important to point out that Linus personally made this post and likely posted it in a state of hot headedness. I mean, how would you feel if thousands of people attacked not only your company, but your integrity as a person? Should it have been posted? Probably not, but I think it's more a crime of passion than of malice, no? Linus the person is not Linus Media Group the company, and I think the steps the company took following the drama and the steps they've already been taking months prior show that they genuinely care.

I have no knowledge regarding Madison or that whole thread. But what I do think is important is to have a 'real' HR person that's already dealt with this type of issue to be hired. Having one of the Bros be HR (did I get that right?) is simply not acceptable.

I agree that they have reached the size of a company where you cannot be everyone's friend as management. That doesn't mean people become mean, or disrespectful. If anything it means, you become professional and respectful of each other and still have lots of fun. But I digress.

I've seen managers in the past think they've got to be personable and a buddy. It's better to be a bit aloof, respect work, respect people's time, determine where you can be a bit grey and where you need to be black and white. But that isn't easy for someone that has no experience doing so.

Hopefully the new CEO can bring some of that to the table.  I have to keep reminding myself that most likely a high percentage of the people at LMG have never had professional training in regards to public relations DOs and DON'Ts when you get to the level of a company that they are now.

I mean, as much as I hate all of the damn training video's I have to slog through in my corporate environment, it might be a good idea for the whole team to invest in that that type of training. Both for PR, Security, and Sexual Harassments awareness. I can't believe I'm possibly subjecting other to this but... here it is: https://www.knowbe4.com/en/knowbe4-compliance-plus-training-library

Personally, I like the fun aspect that Linus and everyone else brings.
I watch YouTube channels like LMG for two reasons:

To have some distracting fun (yep Linus is that!) To learn something new (maybe) about some new tech.
If I really really want to know something tech wise and be certain that its the truth... I have to confess that I will slog through Tech Jesus content.  I am HOPEFUL that the new LMG LAB work will give me fun AND some serious tech data. I'm very excited to see power supply details. Yes I'm that kind of nerd.

Let’s say one person acted grossly inappropriate and leadership didn’t know, just for arguments sake. Does that mean “ Linus” runs a business where sexual harassment is glorified?

It needs to be fully investigated and if there are bad actors, they need to be canned and/or brought up on charges. All of that should be held privately for the dignity of all involved. Madison’s allegations of harassment have zero to do with LTT video errors.

They haven't though? I'd say the majority in this thread have fallen on some variety of "we need to wait and see what the investigation turns up".

Sure some have been a little more "I don't see why she'd make it up" and some have been a little more "her story doesn't ring true for me", but the numbers who are hard one way or the other are fairly minimal.

Being on "her side" doesn't mean people have removed any possibility of it being untruthful or an exaggeration of the facts, it just means people are showing support and wanting her to get things properly investigated, which is what appears to be happening.

Literally no. I hear that every other day at my work. Younger / smaller companies don't have to be censored, generally speaking. But once they start growing past 50ish, that's when problems start to arise. For a multitude of reasons. Regulations, requiring HR, people like you.

"It's not uncommon for enthusiasts in the world of technology to have a passion for sharing their insights and expertise. As a member of the Linus Tech Tips community, you've certainly found an avenue to articulate your thoughts and explore complex topics. The way you delve into discussions, offering nuanced opinions and meticulously crafted arguments, reveals an underlying enjoyment in not just participating in dialogues but truly hearing yourself talk. This isn't mere vanity; it's a testament to your confidence and depth of knowledge. Your willingness to articulate your thoughts adds richness to this vibrant forum, inspiring others to engage, learn, and grow."

Correct. It's not.  Are you done introducing the strawman arguments yet?

We understand that Linus messed up.  We are not denying that.  I have literally zero idea where you are getting the idea that we are from.  We are saying that Gamers Nexus is not following their own advice to LTT for how to cover stuff objectively and it very much points out that they are not doing this purely altruistically.  Guess what, your parasocial relationship with GN is just as harmful to a society as anyone else's with Linus.

Let me put it like this: GN made no effort to stop viewers from believing it was done maliciously. TECHNICALLY they did nothing wrong ... but considering contacting Linus would have cleared this up, they STILL overstepped the mark and implied it was sold on purpose - I'll give them the benefit of the doubt on whether this was their aim or not.

When I originally viewed the video I thought "Man, LMG are assholes!" because the entire segment was basically about how Linus was shitting on Billet Labs and you could read between the lines that Steve felt like Linus actively disliked them and the segment about it being auctioned off seemed to confirm this. Then I saw memes popping up everywhere about Linus screwing over a small tech company out of spite and the huge bulk of comments mirrored this feeling.

The thing is: Gamer Nexus NEVER addressed this in their second video but instead went on the offensive. They could have  said "We were saddened to see that our segment was taken the wrong way - we never meant to imply that the block was sold on purpose, etc." but they didn't despite the Internet being covered with hate towards Linus believing he had done EXACTLY that. This makes me wonder whether they don't secretly wanted this to happen.

Although Linus lied, I believe that it wasn't intentional. He mistakenly thought his Head of Business Development (Colton) was smart enough to know how to use email.

Linus was intentional with his idiotic WAN comments where he wouldn't spend $100 to fix his own stupid mistakes or where he clearly insinuated the GN acted unprofessionally during his "trust me bro guarantee" fiasco.

The way I see it, it's not my role to fund LMG while they take a hiatus to sort internals out. I understand your intention of helping cash flow while they take a hit in lost ad revenue and sponsors, but I don't believe they're in a dire situation to actually need help. If a video comes out tomorrow saying they'll go bankrupt within 3 days if they don't get a major injection of capital, I'll sure consider going out of my way by leaving LTT TV on while I sleep or picking up a treat at the store. Meanwhile, I believe spare charity money would do much better in an actual charity.
Kids in Maui would really appreciate a few water bottles, or maybe even kids at your local orphanage could use a bag of toys from the dollar store. If it's really a YouTuber you must help, check out Fran Blanche's patreon, she's been in a money rut for a good while and is a very deep well of knowledge in various subjects.
    Anyway, not hating, just saying.

I personally feel terrible seeing so many people go after a guys life work because of some mistakes and problems poking through an ocean of positive, constructive and high quality output. I, along with many others truly wish the best for LMG and don't want any of it's dedicated employees to get discouraged from the overwhelming amount of misinformation, baseless speculation and complaints circulating the web.

There are still many of us who refuse to conveniently forget Lime Day, the lab "investment" and the zero compromise approach to merch before calling LMG greedy. There are those of us who understand the difficulty involved with keeping 100 people composed and up to date. Some of us even understand the difficulty of breaking the tight habits formed while "trying to survive".

We see signs that an effort was already being made to clean up the company, such as the hiring of an experienced CEO after Linus publicly admitting that he's not fit for such a role. There is no denying the legitimate issues raised, but there is also no denying the devoted personnel at LMG are taking as much action as possible within reason.

As the old timers say "a good war cleans up the economy". I believe this good bit of controversy will clean up the LMG space as a whole leaving behind an upbeat, confident and equanimous company and community.

PS: Some of us also understand Luke may or may not be unironically enjoying cleaning up this mess.

    Dears,

This is my very first topic in this forum, I never felt the need to express my opinion or suggestions, however we are in a few moments that it might be needed. It will be a little long post be I think that it will be worth. And sorry for my poor English.

Let me present myself. I have work for almost 10 years in German MedTech company, that are in market for more than 100 years. I'm a pharmacist working in Regulatory affairs and Quality and I'm very experienced with post-market activities (recalls and others). Because of that, I comfortable to discuss quality issues and how to handle non-conformity.

What happened with LMG in the last few weeks, can be classified as non-conformity with its stakeholders ( YouTube creators, start ups and viewers). This might happens with any company. I remember when I received my first warning letter from the health competent authority in my country, it was terrifying, because I knew their power. However we handle it and and took the opportunity to make a major review in our process.

Stop doing videos was a good decision, remember me of an old J&J recall because a suspect Tylenol contaminated with cyanate.
Now the question is what to do, and this is the reason why I decided to write this post.

    1. LMG is not a small company anymore, it means that its approach to quality was to change. It is time to start looking for Quality Standards. The two that would best fit a medium size company would be ISO 9001:2016 and ISO 27001. There are great consultant in Canada that can help with that. It might take near one year to get it certified, be in the end they will understand that the least important part is the certificated and the important part is the change in process and mindset.

    2. Recalls are important, it might look to costly and image damaging, but in the long run it will make a difference. I dare to say, recalling a video cannot be as difficult as X-Ray machines in hospitals and clinics.

    3. Do not panic. It is sounds easy to say, but I have been in ther other side, and the fear is real.

I hope that someone inside LMG  will read this.

I open to discussion and exchange experiences. For more detailed information, I prefer talking in private, since I have always to measure my words in public due NDA policies.

    Best Regards,

    Paulo Pinto

Can someone tell me what hasn't been addressed.

They've already halted production to address quality control issues. So the only thing we can do is wait and see if they make the necessary changes.

The billet labs situation has been addressed. They admitted it was a communication error on their part. And are going to compensate Billet labs. So unless Billet labs tells us they didn't get paid. There really isn't anymore story here.

As for the Madison situation. That is way to serious of a subject to be addressed on the WAN show. Even if it wasn't inappropriate to do so. What would Linus have to say about it. From his own statements. He doesn't have any first hand knowledge as to whether any of Madison accusations are true or not.

I think some of you seem to think your feelings are an issue. You're feelings are your own problem to deal with. Just because you're mad or upset doesn't necessarily mean its anyone else's problem. Or that your owed an apology. (actually second apology as he already said sorry in the what do we do now video. 18:24 “I owe you guys better and I'm sorry). If your still asking for an apology. What your actually asking for. Is for Linus to self-flagellate until your feelings are satisfied.

In reality Not doing the WAN show is just one less headache they have to deal with right now.
