  1. It doesn't really seem to be the case because the laptop is less than 10 months old and the temperatures were always maxing out at 70°C under full load and with no throttling since I metal cooled both gpu and cpu, the cpu was even undervolted to -120mV with no problems and I was really happy with the temperatures after that since it was idling at about 35°C. If the gpu were dead it wouldn't have resolved the issue with the driver update for so long I think, the unit worked flawlessly for more than two weeks. It's even more strange because since I bought it the gpu wasn't really that much stressed. On another note, this processor still has integrated graphics built in and if the dedicated gpu dies, the igpu would probably kick in and take its place. I guess I'll send it back for a check and then maybe they will supply me with a new unit since the warranty period ends next year... All in all I have to say I'm really unimpressed with ASUS customer support since they don't seem to care about the issue, I wrote to them a lot in the last month but haven't got a useful reply yet.
  2. So this issue has been going on for about a month now, firstly a quick recap of the incident and then I'll explain what steps I already tried and what almost fixed the issue before everything happening again today... I was letting my laptop render a video while afk (nothing out of the ordinary, i've done it many times and the hardware and cooling solutions are more than just adequate for the job) when I noticed it ramped up the fan speed to 100% and when I got to check on it, the screen was black and there was no way to wake it. Now when I start it, it does the same thing: black screen and fans at 100% with no way to interact with it. I've already checked every physical component for performance and cooling and everything was working 100% fine up until today when the laptop won't start up anymore. I changed the cmos battery (which is a pain because it's one of those with the integrated cables that cost 10 times as much as a regular cmos battery) and the issue didn't get fixed. The laptop starts up if you leave it alone for some time and lasts longer the longer you leave it but only for a maximum of about 15 minutes (it seems to be on a timer, if you get the idea), until a couple of weeks ago I managed to "fix" it by quickly disabling the dedicated gpu and running a chipset driver update using the igpu, after having found some corrupted xeon chipset drivers in the device manager. The laptop ran completely fine performance and temperature wise up until this evening when it shut off again. Detailed description of the symptoms: - If the pc is running and has audio being played you can notice that only the screen turns black (and by black i mean the backlight is still on, it doesn't really turn off completely) because whatever was being played runs even on a black screen, but at this point there is no way to wake the screen back up, it just stays black whatever you try to do. - After shutting it down after a crash, when powered on the HDD spins up like normal, the LED's power on just fine, but the cpu and gpu fans ramp up quickly to full speed (even though even the heatsinks are cool to the touch, so no overheating there...) and the screen stays black. - Sometimes the laptop could be powered on normally by pressing a combination of buttons, but not always it worked and sometimes the combination had to be changed (ctrl-f12, function-f2, ctrl-del, and so on...) - The issue seemed to persist only when using the dedicated graphics because when switching to the iGPU the issue seemed to be somewhat gone, but after testing the gpu, after the driver updates, everything worked fine up until now. I've got a link here to the tom's hardware forums with the detailed steps I took to try and fix the issue if you need additional information about my system specs and all the possible causes and fixes: https://forums.tomshardware.com/threads/asus-rog-gl702vs-7700hq-gtx-1070-suddenly-black-screened-ramping-up-the-fans-to-full-speed.3457737/ Nobody there even replied to my post so hopefully here's someone that understand and has maybe already seen similar issues and can help me fix my laptop. It really would be a shame to have to send it back to ASUS just to hear it's a motherboard problem and the laptop is totalled, which it clearly isn't... Thank you in advance.
