  1. I just upgraded from a Synology 112j to a 716+ so I have my old one just sitting around in the basement collecting dust. I'd rather not pay for any cloud based storage if I can just store it at home. This happens so infrequently that I think a cloud based system might be more money than it's worth. (2 years ago some drunk guy tried to open the door and then ran away when I threatened him, and that's about it) I just looked up the table here on Seagate's site and I don't know what to go for in terms of FPS and resolution. I was thinking 720p would be good enough, really. I would like a camera above my garage pointed at the street right in front of my house as well as one on my porch. I'm tech savvy enough to build my own computer so I figure setting up some cameras should be within my skill level. I just don't know what to buy or what's compatible with Synology Surveillance station.
  2. Thanks I'm so pissed off because my disabled father and I were going to watch Tenet and someone stole the Blu ray from our porch. Anyway, is 1 TB WD purple good enough? I would only have 1 or 2 cameras and I read that 1 TB can record about a month per camera, which I don't think I'll need, but I've never done this so I don't know how HDD space I actually need, honestly. Do you know what cameras are compatible with it?
  3. I got my first porch pirate so I'm not screwing around. I'm getting a WD purple and I want to know the cheapest way to use it is. Should I put it in my old DS 112j or should I just put it in my PC? Or should I get a new Diskstation altogether?
  4. I just looked up my order on Best Buy and it's the X950H which it says about Bluetooth Version 4.2; HID (mouse/keyboard connectivity)/HOGP (Low Energy device connectivity)/SPP (Serial Port Profile)/A2DP (stereo audio)2/AVRCP (AV remote control)
  5. I have a Sony Bravia TV. I don't know the exacty model number but it's a 2019 TV and it was pretty expensive so I assume it has bluetooth. I'm looking for a pair of headphones for movies. I'm not an audiophile but I want a decent, over the ear pair. On the ear hurts and earbuds bother me. I don't know anything about audio technology so you'll lose me with technical stuff. My TV only has an optical output and it goes to my soundbar which doesn't have an option to split the connection. So I'm stuck with Bluetooth I guess, unless there's some way to split an optical connection. Does bluetooth compress the audio to a large degree? What option would you go with in this case? I was looking at the Sony WH L600 but since I don't know anything about audio I don't want to invest $200 into headphones I know nothing about
  6. I bought my mom an Echo show and she loves weather, so I was wondering if they make a wireless outdoor thermometer that works with it.
  7. I need headphones that I can use with my TV and I don't want to go bluetooth. The Sony L600 headphones seem nice but they're only on 2.4 ghz and my router is 3 feet from my TV. So I was wondering if they made any headphones that use a different frequency. I also need them to use optical inputs since my TV only has an optical port.
  8. I got a sony tv for my dad and it has dolby vision. I see 2 Sony dolby vision 4k players. The UBP x700 and the UBP x800. I googled the difference but I can't find much. Is there a reason why the x800 is more expensive? Is the reason based on image quality? We just want to watch blu rays on it. I don't care about streaming or bluetooth or sound or anything else since our cheap soundbar plugs directly into the tv and we have a roku for streaming.
  9. His current one is a really cheap bargain monitor and its bad quality is very noticeable.
  10. Dang. Ok. I guess I'll just buy him some games on his account separately then
  11. If I have a Switch and I want my nephew to be able to use my account and play my downloaded games at his house on his switch would I be able to do that with a switch family account? Like can you Gameshare with it?
  12. My nephew wants a new monitor so he can have a 2 monitor setup like me. My budget is $150. I don't know monitor tech all that well, so I figured I'd ask here. This new monitor will be his main. I was thinking about this https://www.amazon.com/Acer-R240HY-bidx-23-8-Inch-Widescreen/dp/B0148NNKTC/ref=sxin_11?ascsubtag=amzn1.osa.d3c353d3-eaff-4032-8ab5-f7c60e55332b.ATVPDKIKX0DER.en_US&creativeASIN=B0148NNKTC&cv_ct_cx=24+inch+monitor&cv_ct_id=amzn1.osa.d3c353d3-eaff-4032-8ab5-f7c60e55332b.ATVPDKIKX0DER.en_US&cv_ct_pg=search&cv_ct_we=asin&cv_ct_wn=osp-single-source-gl-ranking&dchild=1&keywords=24+inch+monitor&linkCode=oas&pd_rd_i=B0148NNKTC&pd_rd_r=80ec08f3-e289-4d1d-8883-0b6e78bff218&pd_rd_w=CNPje&pd_rd_wg=pYwTM&pf_rd_p=f78282ee-db56-4d41-99a2-17abf93837bc&pf_rd_r=XWFX0YFBXNNNANFCB4Y0&qid=1606595331&sr=1-1-d9dc7690-f7e1-44eb-ad06-aebbef559a37&tag=gadgetreview-tca-20 There's also this one https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-proprietary-borderless-Brightness-GW2480/dp/B072XCZSSW/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=24+inch+monitor&qid=1606595331&sr=8-5 If anyone has better recommendations let me know.
  13. Sorry man I didn't know what you were talking about. It's from ebay. I forgot to mention ebay in the post.
  14. This is from ebay. I don't know much about NASes except I have a DS 112j that is on its last leg and I need something that I can run raid 1 and has a quad core cpu because I plan on uploading 1TB of photography and my DS112j would take too long with its old cpu. It's going to be for archiving documents, photos, and a media center through my Roku. This is only $180 and the seller seems legit. It's a 2016 model. The 2020 model is $400 and I don't want to spend that much on this. I am buying 2 2TB WD Reds. Are there any red flags I need to know about?
  15. I don't know what I'm looking at here. I googled it but nothing comes up. Any thoughts?
  16. Oh sorry. I meant Dolby Atmos. But if it's not leaps and bounds better than Windows built in 3D sound then I'm not going to worry about it.
  17. Oh. Yeah I just use headphones. I thought it was like supersampling for audio.
  18. Cyberpunk is reportedly supporting dolby ATMOS so I am wondering what I need on PC to get that. I have a soundblaster Omni DAC from 2014 which I assume doesn't support it. My headphones are Sennheiser HD 518
  19. Gotcha. Ok. As you can tell I'm still learning all of this stuff. Thanks for the detailed info
  20. Yeah good color is my first priority by far. But I think HDR might help my blacks look better, because sometimes my photos on my monitor don't look the same as my Samsung s9, which is an oled. I just figure HDR might help me get closer to true black that oled gives. I don't know though. I actually don't understand HDR as much as I'd like, but I hear photographers talking about HDR monitors.
  21. I need a photo editing monitor, preferably 1440p or 4k. Not gaming, so no need for high refresh rates. My priorities are good color, as close to 100% sRGB as I can get, and nice blacks. I don't quite understand monitor terminology like nits, contrast ratios, cd/m2 or anything like that. I'm still learning. I'd like HDR even if it's not the best. I've never had HDR so I don't even know how to shop for HDR.
